  • This paper presents the effects of an increase or a decrease of a power reserve by load flow calculations under the seasonal load patterns of each country for the future power shortages faced by the metropolitan areas or by the southeastern area of South Korea in North-East Asia. In this paper, the various cases of the power system interconnections in Far-East Asia are presented, and the resulting interconnected power systems are simulated by means of a power flow analysis performed with the PSS/E 28 version tool. Data for simulation were obtained from the 2-th long term plan of electricity supply and demand in KEPCO. The power flow map is drawn from simulated data and the comparative study is done. In the future, a power flow analysis will be considered to reflect the effects of seasonal power exchanges. And the plan of assumed scenarios will be considered with maximum or minimum power exchanges during summer or winter in North-East Asian countries.

  • In system planing and operation, voltage and reactive power control is very important. The voltage deviation and system losses can be reduced through control of reactive power sources. In general, there are several different reactive power sources, we used switched shunt capacitor to improve the voltage profile and to reduce system losses. Since there are many switched shunt capacitors in power system, so it if necessary to coordinate these switched shunt capacitors. In this study, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to find optimal coordination of switched shunt capacitors in a local area of power system. In case study, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated in KEPCO's power system. The simulation is performed by PSS/E and the results of simulation are compared with sensitivity method.

  • In this paper, a simulation study on dynamic characteristics of wind turbine generators is performed. The generation of electricity using wind turbines is being recently spotlighted as a renewable way. The wind is an infinite primary energy source. Further, other environmental impacts of wind power are limited as well. Therefore, the wind turbine generation itself has many advantages. However, when generators using wind turbines are connected to the conventional power system, the impact of the power system is different from that of the power system that consists of only synchronous generators, especially in dynamic characteristics. Therefore, it is essential to examine the characteristics of wind turbines in order to ensure reliable wind turbine generation in the power system containing wind turbine generators. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of GE1.5MW wind turbine are simulated by using PSS/E. In the simulation of GE1.5MW wind turbine, wind speed variation, load change and voltage deviation of infinite bus are considered.

  • When assailing some area, it is important to consider targeting power system. This paper describes effective method that power networks are incapacitated based on assessing TSI and VDI. For this, we compose realistic scenario and analyze the simulation results in a view of stability. The simulation results show the destruction effects when occur the contingency in the specified area. To perform this process, the simulation tool PSS/E and DSAT are used.

  • This paper presents an effect of UPFC to the power system analysis. UPFC is equivalently represented as a synchronous condenser and load, while the active and reactive power of the specific transmission line and the voltage of the bus is scheduled appropriately. This procedure is implemented by IPLAN which is an application program in PSS/E. The simulation results show that UPFC is very effective to control the transmission line over-load and bus voltage variation.

  • In this paper a design method of robust power system stabilizers is proposed by means of robust linear quadratic regulator design technique under power system's operating condition change, which is caused by inner structure uncertainties and disturbances into a power system. It is assumed that the uncertainties present in the system are modeled as one equivalent signal. In this connections an optimal LQR control input for disturbance rejection, the output feedback gain for eliminating the disturbance are calculated. In this case. PSS input signal is obtained on the basis of weighted ${\Delta}P_e$ and $\Delta\omega$. In order to stabilize the overall control of system. Pole placement algorithm is applied in addition. making the poles of the closed loop system to move into a stable region in the complex plane. Some simulations have been conducted to verify the feasibility of the proposed control method on a machine to infinite bus power system. From the simulation results validation of the proposed method could be achieved by comparisons with the conventional PSS with phase lag-lead compensation.

  • This paper deals with the HVDC stability according to controller types and control modes. From the viewpoint of controllers, the HVDC system which has PI, PD and PID, is designed considering the system response and stability. Also the HVDC system consists of multi-control modes like voltage control, current control and alpha control. Therefore, the HVDC stability analysis have to consider the above control modes and controller types. In this paper, the reduced model of HVDC control is analyzed in PSS/E(Power System Simulation/Engineering) and PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • As the electric power market environments are being changed, suitable data for expansions should be subjected to stockholders. And the public responses are requested for transmission system expansion. The necessity of transmission system expansion can be easily assessed via the benefit/cost evaluations. Because the benefit/cost evaluation of the transmission system expansions required variety elements, which can be depended on electric power market simulation software. On this paper, a method is illustrated using the PPOOL developed by PPC and PSS/E developed by PTI.

  • This paper presents a new generator grouping method for speed-up of transient stability evaluation in SIME. The critical generators are grouped by new indices in the early stage of time domain simulation. And the simulation can be early terminated by fast stability evaluation using the time trajectory of equivalent one machine infinite bus. The main advantage of the proposed method is that it can be applied to stable cases as well as unstable ones. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested on the PSS/E test system.
