Experiences in wind farm operation are very limited in Korea, and the foundation for setting standards in power system connection is weak. Therefore, connection and operation standards for wind farms in other countries must be reviewed and power system operation criteria need to be established in order to set up connection standards and optimal operation plans according to the Jeju power system. In this study, reactive power control characteristics of a wind farm were analyzed using a wind farm model of the Jeju power system to propose power system connection operation standards for wind generation within the Jeju power system. Also, change in characteristics of the power system for the application of each reactive power control standard was confirmed, and the results were verified through trial tests arm was analyzed.
Electric power has traditionally been supplied to the demander through power generation, its transmission, and final distribution system. It is, however, expected that the various dispersed power system will be located near demanders and act as a power source based on the efficient management of electric power demanders and the optimal utilization of substitute energy. More stable electric power and efficient utilization of various power sources can be guranteed through the connection of the dispersed power system into the existing power system. It is the purpose of this study that, in the case of the connection of dispersed power system into the existing distribution line, effects of the connection on the power quality and plans for protection of power equipments are discussed and solutions of them are proposed.

In this paper, a novel power management structure for an energy harvesting pervasive system is proposed. The system considers the power state of each subsystem to assign proper power sources. The switch matrix structure utilizes each power source to reduce the peak current of the battery. The power management structure can be interfaced to an embedded system power supply without significant design change.
This study was examined the energy conservation and the environmental value through the computer simulation employing the micro cogeneration system and the photovoltaic power generation system in house. The results of this study were as follows:1. In case of the micro cogeneration system. With the conditions of 'the electric produced by the micro cogeneration system was not sold to the electric power company', 'control quantity of commercial power supply was 10%' , 'operating time was 6 hour', 'minimum load rate of generator was 50%', and 'having a storage tank', the micro cogeneration system was superior compare to the comparative system in 2.4% of the energy conservation and 4.18% of the environmental value. 2. In case of the photovoltaic power generation system. 1) The 66.9% of total generated electric power from the photovoltaic power system was sold to the electric power company. That is, it could help to preserve the electric power from commercial power supply.2) There is a possibility of cutting the fair rate of electric power.
As the spreading speed of electric vehicles increases rapidly, those are expected to be able to use them as flexible resources in the power system beyond the concern for the supply of its charging power. Especially when the Renewable Energy sources (RES) which have no intrinsic control capability have replaced the synchronous generators more and more, the power system needs to secure the additional frequency control resources to ensure its stability. However, the feasibility of using electric vehicles as the frequency control resources should be analyzed from the perspective of the power system operation and it requires the existing simulation frameworks for the power system. Therefore, this paper proposes the grid connected modeling of the primary frequency control provided by electric vehicles which can be integrated into the existing power system model. In addition, the proposed model is implemented considering technical performances constrained by the characteristics of the Vehicle-Grid Integration (VGI) system so that the simulation results can be accepted by the power utilities operating the power system conservatively.

Power grid techniques are distributed over general power systems ranging from power stations to power transmission, power distribution, and users. To monitor and control the elements and performance of a power system in real time in the extensive area of power generation, power transmission, wide-area monitoring (WAM) and control techniques are required (Sattinger et al. 2007). Also, to efficiently operate a power grid, integrated techniques of information and communication technology are required for the application of communication network and relevant equipment, computing, and system control software. WAM should make a precise power grid measurement of more than once per cycle by time synchronization using GPS. By collecting the measurement values of a power grid from substations located at faraway regions through remote communication, the current status of the entire power grid system can be examined. However, for GPS that is used in general national industries, unexpected dangerous situations have occurred due to its deterioration and jamming. Currently, the power grid is based on a synchronization system using GPS. Thus, interruption of the time synchronization system of the power system due to the failure or abnormal condition of GPS would have enormous effects on each field such as economy, security, and the lives of the public due to the destruction of the synchronization system of the national power grid. Developed countries have an emergency substitute system in preparation for this abnormal situation of GPS. Therefore, in Korea, a system that is used to prepare for the interruption of GPS reception should also be established on a long-term basis; but prior to this, it is required that an evaluation technique for the time synchronization performance of a GPS receiver using an atomic clock within the power grid. In this study, a monitoring system of time synchronization based on GPS at a power grid was implemented, and the results were presented.

This paper presents a control method of the modular multilevel converter - high-voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) system to regulate grid voltage on the basis of the Jeju Island power system. In this case, the MMC-HVDC system is controlled as a static synchronous compensator (Statcom) to exchange the reactive power with the power grid. The operation of the MMC-HVDC system is verified by using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation program. The Jeju Island power system is first established on the basis of the parameters and measured data from the real Jeju Island power system. This power system consists of two line-commutated converter - high-voltage direct current (LCC-HVDC) systems, two Statcom systems, wind farms, thermal power plants, transformers, and transmission and distribution lines. The proposed control method is then applied by replacing one LCC-HVDC system with a MMC-HVDC system. Simulation results with and without using the MMC-HVDC system are compared to evaluate the effectiveness of the control method.

In the past, dramatic economical development of Korea could be achieved by well-organized 154kV power system network. Electric power Is a key Industry for the nation and industrial development. Nowadays we operates 345kV Power system with based transmission network and also we are operating 765kV power system to supply to the capital region. Currently developing countries in Southeast Asia are requiring the electric power technology to Korea so that they can acquire the source of the development-power system network. Therefore, it Is important to design transmission line and substation with appropriate methods. In this paper, a calculation and calculating process of shielding range using shield wires in Myanmar 500kV substation are reviewed according to the Myanmar 500kV power system project performed by the overseas projects section of the Korea Electric Power Corporation.

In this paper, to solve the defect of stand-alone type power system in a remote area, a hybrid power system with photovoltaic/wind/diesel generators is proposed. A hybrid power system has a power-balanced controller to equilibrate generation power with a given load demand and which is composed of common DC power system. To execute a power-balanced control, a hybrid power system is assumed that all of power generators have the characteristics of an equivalent current-source and load sharing control technique must be needed at the same time. So this paper describes the algorithm of interactive technique for design of a hybrid power system.
New building, reinforcement, maintenance and test of power equipments are always necessary in a power system. Our power system is getting old and the total power capacity is also getting large, so power equipment outages are getting often. Power euipment outages make less margine for a stable condition of a power system operation. Therefore, through overviews and countermeasures against the outage should be made in order to be in a stable operational conditions during the outage. We have too many outages over 300 per month in our power system. So, we can't have enough time to study our power system and to make countermeasures without a helping program. This program is designed to give various and appropriate informations necessary for an outage scheduling. By applying this program, we can raise the job efficiency high and spare the time spent. So we can afford to do through system studies and make good countermeasures. I think this program can contribute greately to power system stable operation.
