Preparation of the Inundation Map Using 1-Dimensional Pond Model (1차원 Pond모형을 이용한 예상침수지도 작성)

  • 하천변 저지대를 HEC-RAS의 저류지(Storage) 기능을 사용하여 모형화 하고 자연배수시설과 배수펌프장을 모의할 수 있는 기능에 의해 하도와 연결한 후 1차원 부정류해석을 수행하였다. 그 결과 유역에서 저지대로 유입한 홍수량과 저지대에서 하천으로 배제되는 홍수량의 차이를 산정하여 내수침수를 유발하는 저류량과 침수위을 결정할 수 있었으며, 이렇게 결정된 저류지의 시간대별 침수위를 저지대의 표고와 비교함으로써 침수지역을 식별하고 침수심별로 상이한 형태의 시각정보로 변환하여 시간대별 침수심별 예상침수지도를 작성하였다. 본 모형을 삽교천 유역에 적용한 결과 실제 발생한 홍수사상의 특성을 잘 재현하여 상기한 정보들이 충분한 활용가치가 있는 것으로 평가되었다.

Measurement of Irrigation Water Temperature and Preventive Measure against Cold Watter Damage to Paddy Rice (벼의 냉수피해 감소를 위한 관개수온 조사와 대책수립)

  • Paddy rice is semi-tropical crop and requires warmirrigation water. If mean water temperature at the water source during the growing period is below 18$^{\circ}C$, sime kinds of water warming mechanism should be taken. In this study irrigation water temperature is measured and preventive measures to cold water damage on paddy rice are suggested. Field observations were performed at 100ha field area downtream of the Unmoon reservoir during the growing season of 1997. Land use, canal system, water temperature at irrigation canals. reservoir, and paddy fields were observed. In addition, growth and yield of the rice at selected plots were observed. Accordingly to the record, cold water damage occurred in this area due to the cold irrigation water supply in 1996. It did not occur because of the effective irrigation water management practice in 1997. However, several preventive measures such as pontoon intake system, using existing weir and construting a new warming pond, are suggested to prevent cold water damage in the future. If a new warming pond is construted to raise irrigation water temperature by 2 $^{\circ}C$, a pond area of 2.94 ha is required.

  • Wetland systems are widely accepted natural water purification systems around the world in nonpoint sources pollution control. In this study, the field experiment to reduce nonpoint source pollution loadings from agricultural drainage and polluted stream waters using wetland and pond system was performed. The removal rate of $BOD_5$, TSS, TN, TP, and $Chl-{\alpha}$ was 52%, 90%, 56%, 59%, and 81%, respectively. Performance of the experimental system was compared with existing data base (NADB), and it was within the range of general system performance. Overall the water quality improvement was apparent in wetland and pond system.

  • Treatment efficiency and plant growth of a combined Pond-Wetland system was investigated. The system is composed of primary and secondary ponds and six wetland cells. Reed and cattail were planted as vegetation of wetland cells. The removal rates of BOD, SS, T-N, and T-P were 40%, 41%, 30%, and 47% at the secondary pond, respectively. The system removal rates measured at the last wetland cell were 57%, 54%, 60%, and 68% for BOD, SS, T-N, and T-P, respectively.

  • This study carried out field observations of measuring thermal environment, especially evaluating amount of water evaporation at roof Pond by field observations during the summer. Thermal environment measuring was categorized as air temperature, water temperature of roof pond, surface temperature, globe temperature, short and long wave radiation, net radiation, and amount of water evaporation by water level measurement. Results from this study could be used as fundamental for reducing heat Island phenomena.

  • This paper dealt with an experiments on temperature vairation in the heat storage zone due to change of vertical location (height) of sink diffuser and flow extraction in small saltless solar pond ($0.5{\times}0.5{\times}1.0M$), and the honeycomb device for this experimental purpose consisted of one-tired, sealed, and air filled by honeycomb panels. As results of experiments, 1) The storage zone was formed under lower region below the honeycomb device. 2) The higher vertical location of sink diffuser was placed, the more mixing phenomenon increased in the pond at steady flow extraction. 3) The more flow extraction increased, the more mixing phenomenon decreased at constant heat exchanger and variable flow extraction.

  • For improvement of water quality, $20m^2$ of artificial floating plant islands planted with Iris pseudoacorus, were installed in small pond on March, 1999. Small pond has surface area $1,000m^2$ and mean depth 1.5 m. The density of plants was 16 per $m^2$ by using jute pot. Environmental parameters such as COD, SS, T-N, T-P and planktons were biweekly measured from 29 March to 28 September. Because of the small portion of floating island, the effect for water quality improvement was not sufficient. But considering the data of plant growth and nitrogen and phosphorus uptake capacity of plant, about 40% of coverage by artificial floating island was needed for elimination of whole nutrients from inflow.

A Study on the Soil Contamination in the Heaped Soil Dredged from Bottom of the Storage Pond in Pohang Industrial Complex (포항 공단유수지 준설토의 문덕리 성토에 따른 토양오염 조사)

  • Geochemical study was carried out to find out soil contamination at the heaped soil, moved from bottom of the storage pond in Pohang industrial complex, in Moondug, Chemical analysis showed that contents of heavy metals in the soil were higher than those of the ordinary soil. Contents of Cu and Cd in the soil exceeded Korean standard of soil contamination. Especially content of Cu exceeded Korean standard of soil contamination(50ppm) at the six points and at one point content of Cu was 113.3ppm. Contents of Be were so higher than U.S RCRA standard(0.2ppm) that they can affect soil environment. The followed research about relation between pollutant and soil and proper measures are required to prevent soil contamination from affecting environment of Moondug.

Characteristics of water quality at Han stream retention ponds in Jeju City (제주시 한천 저류지의 수질 특성)

  • To evaluate characteristics of water quality in Jeju, a study was implemented for Han stream and retention ponds. Inflow water quality of retention ponds was heavily dependent on precedent rainfall, and no pesticide was detected due to the little artificial pollution sources. A smooth settling efficiency curve was noticed because heavy particles were already settled down in front of the retention pond. There were weak relationships between retention time and water quality, and this can be attributable to high concentration of pollutants influx at peak inflow. In addition, as Han stream retention pond has a role of groundwater recharge, inflow control based on water quality as well as quantity is needed to maximize pollutant removal at the retention ponds.

  • Seasonal changes of aquatic environmental factors, phytoplankton biomass and primary productivity were investigated in the Jido pond (a phytoplankton proliferating pond) from August 1982 to October 1983. Secchi disc transparency, pH, alkalinity and inorganic nitrogen concentration ranged 24~105cm, 7.5~10.6, 50~175mgCaCO3/l 0.1~4.0mgN/l, respectively. The minimum values of transparency, alkalinity and inorganic nitrogen concentration and the maximum value of pH were obtained during the phytoplankton proliferating season. The phytoplankton biomass changed in the range of 51~1146mgchl/m3 with considerable fluctuations but maintained fairly constant in winter. Themaximum and minimum rates of monthly carbon inflow (net primary production) of the phytoplankton community attained 1190gc/m2 in August 1982 and 68g/m2 in February 1983, respectively. The annual rates of inflow and outflow from August 1982 to July 1983 were 7.384 and 7.396kgc/m2, respectively. Turnover rate of phytoplankton carbon and efficiency of radiation of the phytoplankton community varied in the ranges of 60~130%/day (annual mean, 90%/day) and 0.9~11.2% (annual mean, 6.3%), respectively.
