The characteristics of residual stresses occurring in PM steel based nickel (FLN2-4405) was investigated. The measurements of residual stresses were carried out by electrochemical layer removal technique. The values and distributions of residual stresses occurring in PM steel processed under various densities and heat treatment conditions were determined. In most of the experiments, tensile residual stresses were recorded in surface of samples. The residual stress distribution on the surface of the PM steels is affected by the heat treatment conditions and density. Maximum values of residual stresses on the surface were observed sinter hardened condition and $7.4\;g/cm^3$ density. Minimum level of recorded tensile residual stresses are150 MPa and its maximum level is 370 MPa.
The physical properties of seven sizes of control groups and experimental group in stainless steel orthodontic wires were studied in tension, hardness, bending, torsion and observation of microstructure. The wires (0.40-0.90mm dia.) of round type were tested in the as-received condition. The wires of control groups were TRU-CHROME and REMANIUM, and experimental group was SK wire which was developed by ourselves and made in Korea. The results were as follows; 1. The chemical compositions of control groups and experimental group were austenite stainless steel wires of SOS 304. 2. Higher values of tensile and yield strength in tension were control group I, experimental group, control group II. Maximum tensile and yield strength of experimental group were $203.63{\pm}1.41kg/mm^2$ in 0.70mm diameter and $148.96{\pm}4.88kg/mm^2$ in 0.60mm diameter, and maximum elongation was $5.20{\pm}0.57%$ in 0.45mm diameter. 3. Hardness values of experimental group were similar to control groups. Maximum hardness values were $596.2{\pm}13.66Hv$ in 0.45mm diameter wire of control group I, $590.5{\pm}20.08Hv$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of control group II, and $563.6{\pm}5.35Hv$ in 0.70mm diameter wire of experimental group. 4. Torsion properties of experimental group were similar to control group I and more than control group II. Maximum torsion cycles were $31.8{\pm}2.48$ in 0.45mm diameter of control group I, $17.4{\pm}4.84$ in 0.60mm diameter of control group II, and $24.6{\pm}3.04$ in 0.45mm diameter of experimental group. 5. Maximum bending cycles of experimental group were smaller than control groups. Maximum bending cycles were $9.00{\pm}0.00$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of control group I, $10.0{\pm}0.82$ in 0.40mm diameter wire of control group II, and $8.0{\pm}1.26$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of experimental group. 6. Microstructures of experimental and control groups co-existed with martensited austenite structure and elongated austenite structure. 7. The direction of wire fracture was propagated parallel to torsion direction typically and there was no probability showing wire fracture at inclusions and surface scratches. 8. The type of wire fracture was brittle fracture at initiation site and ductile fracture at core.
The purpose of this study is to estimate of emission factors of the air pollutants for the melting furnaces for the iron and steel industry. The result of this study is able to obtaine the emission factor of particulate matters (PM), sulfur dioxide. nitrogen oxides for melting furnace. The emission factors of each pollutants were as follows : - the emission factor varied between 6.13E-03~6.12E-01 kg/ton for PM -1.59E-01~2.45E+00kg/ton for $SO_2$ - 6.82E-02~6.88E-01 kg/ton for NOx, respectively. Analysis of the differences in the emission factors of ours and U.S. EPA's yielded the following results for the Wilcoxon method : p>0.05. The statistical analysis showed no differences in the our emission factors and U.S. EPA's
The flexural strength and ductility capacity of reinforced concrete columns are largely dependent on the amount of transverse steel. However, current design code does not specify the confinement effect of transverse steels in strength calculation. A non-linear moment-curvature analysis of RC column sections was conducted in order to develop PM interaction diagram considering transverse reinforcement effects. In this paper, a more reasonable application method of PM interaction diagram considering transverse steel amounts is introduced and proposed, based on moment-curvature non-linear analysis. Also, we proposed simplified method to use. easily in practical design.
Experiments were conducted to investigate the sensitivity of steel plate oxidation with temperature in a simulated furnace. Used steel plates were a general steel and a high tensile steel. Porous media burner (PM burner) used in model furnace was made for uniform temperature profile. The surrounding temperature was controlled by adjusting the flow rate of the mixture in the combustor. Oxide layer analysis was performed using SEM image analysis and EDS line scanning. Both steel sheets showed a tendency to increase the thickness of the steel sheet surface oxide layer as the temperature increases, and it was confirmed that the flaking phenomenon in surface oxidation layer appeared when the temperature was above a certain temperature.
The low cycle fatigue (LCF) and creep-fatigue (hold time tension fatigue, HTTF) tests were performed on the modified 25Cr-13Ni cast stainless steel, which was selected as a candidate material for exhaust manifold in automotive engine. The exhaust manifold is subjected to an environment in which heating and cooling cycle occur due to the running pattern of automotive engine. Several types of fatigue behaviour such as thermal fatigue, thermal mechanical fatigue and creep-fatigue are belong to the main failure mechanisms. High temperature tensile test was firstly carried out to compare the sample with the traditional cast steel for the component. The low cycle fatigue and HTTF tests were carried out under the strain controlled condition with the total strain amplitude from ${\pm}0.6%$ to ${\pm}0.7%$ at $800^{\circ}C$. The hysteresis loops of HTTF tests showed significant stress relaxation during tension hold time. With the increase of tension hold time, the fatigue life was remarkably deceased which caused from the formation of intercrystalline crack by the creep failure mechanism.
In this study, we investigated whether the anhysteretic demagnetization process would be applicable to remove a complicated magnetization of a steel tube as a part of the experimental earlier study for a deperming of naval vessel. The magnetic tube used in this study was a 10cm-long and 1cm-diameter steel tube, and magnetized with a E-shape ferrite core to form a nonuniform magnetization in it. In the anhysteretic demagnetization process, a dc magnetic field applied along the longitudinal direction of the tube decreased from ${\pm}$3kA/m to zero-field with the step of ${\pm}$300A/m. At the same time, an ac bias magnetic field with the frequency of 60Hz and the field intensity of 300A/m was excited along the circumstantial direction of the tube. It was found that the anhysteretic process was useful to demagnetize a small-object like a steel tube from the experimental results showing the residual magnetization reduced over 90%.
The pipe of CFRP for bicycle frame is designed and made for light weight of bicycle and then its suitability to bicycle frame is verified by comparing the other material i.e. steel, Cr-Mo steel, Al alloy pipe for bicycle frame. The pipe of CFRP is laminated to [0/$\pm$45]$_T$ and made by tape winding method and then its degree of light weight is evaluated by comparing the other pipes which is made by steel etc.
Materials manufactured by powder metallurgy (PM) are widely used in various applications such as water pump, shock absorber, and airplane components due to the reduction in the cost and weight. In this study, tribological properties of carbon steel subjected by surface treatment were investigated. The main purpose is to increase the strength and improve the tribological properties by reducing pores that formed by PM. Moreover, the surface treatment was carried out at room and high temperatures (RT and HT). The surface roughness of the untreated (NON) and treated (AFTER) samples was measured. It was found that the surface roughness was reduced after both the RT AFTER and HT AFTER compared to RT NON sample. The tribological properties of the samples were performed against bearing steel ball under dry conditions. The friction coefficient of the RT NON samples was reduced by 22% and 56% RT AFTER and HT AFTER, respectively. The wear volume of the RT NON sample was also reduced by 43% and 87% RT AFTER and HT AFTER, respectively. Tribocorrosion tests were also performed and it was found that the surface of the RT AFTER, HT AFTER samples was less corroded compared to RT NON sample. The HT AFTER sample demonstrated a relatively higher corrosion potential in comparison with the RT AFTER samples. Hence, it was confirmed that after surface modification the surface roughness and hardness of the samples were significantly improved resulting in improvement in tribological and tribocorrosion behaviors of PM carbon steel.
This study is performed to examine the flowability and filling ability of steel fiber reinforced high performance concrete. For the estimation of the flowability and filling ability, slump flow, box height difference and L-shape filling appearence are measured and compared. The test result shows that the slump flow is $60{\pm}5cm$ to make no difference with containing steel fiber, box height difference is increased with increasing steel fiber and L-shape filling appearence is to bad with increasing steel fiber. But, proper containg of steel fiber is considered to be applied for high performance concrete without decreasing of slump flow and filling ability.
