This study was aimed to propose the plan of creating a biotope reflecting an ecological education as well as its function as the habitats of amphibian in Namsan Urban Natural Park in Seoul. There were Cheonil mineral spring area which was located on the southern side of Namsan, wetlands which was already created on the east valley(800$m^2$) and a buffer area of the circumference(1,100$m^2$) as the biotope sites. Major fields of this study include a survey of the staus, a basic plan, a master plan; a survey of this site was focused on topography, water system, existing vegetation, wildbird, amphibian, trail; a detailed plan was focused on flow plan, planting plan, facility plan. Existing vegetation was classified into 8 types; Pinus densiflora forest, Pinus densiflora planted area, Prunus sargentii-Quercus spp. forest, Pinus rigida forest, Robinia pseudoacacia forest, artificial green space, wetlands, south beltway. There were Pinus densiflora planted area and Prunus sargentii-Quercus spp. forest as major vegetations of this site. 14 species and 33 individuals of wildbirds appeared, Rana temporaria ornativentris and Hynobius leechi were investigated in the wetlands. In particular, habitats of amphibian were divided eco-zone, buffer-zone and restore-zone, and habitats and facilities which would be suitable for the characteristics of each space were planned. As a result, environment elements of good habitats including spawn wetlands of amphibian, harbor of amphibian, water plant of wetland, wild shrubs forest, ecological landscape forest, wetland observation trail, fence of wetland protection and ramp by pebble and log were created at the site. The amphibian biotope of Namsan is rated high as an important space for conserving biodiversity. Accordingly, continuous monitoring of this biotope as a urban habitat is required as the environment changes.
This study was fulfilled to investigate the forest fire risk of forest fuels based on the combustion characteristics of living leaves of coniferous trees and broadleaf trees naturally growing in Youngdong areas of Gangwon Province by using cone calorimeter and smoke density chamber. According to the result, Pinus densiflora and Pinus rigida among coniferous trees released a greater amount of heat release than other kinds. The total smoke release varied depending on the species, whereas Pinus koraiensis showed the largest amount of smoke release. With regard to maximum smoke density, it was much higher in coniferous trees than in broadleaf trees. With regard to smoke temperature, Pinus densiflora showed the lowest compared to other kinds up until 200s from the ignition, but all most trees uniformly maintained constant temperature of about $70^{\circ}C$ after 200s. The concentrations of CO and $CO_2$ release were drastically increased at about 150s and then gradually decreased thereafter. Pinus densiflora showed a bit higher CO release than broadleaf trees, but there was no distinct difference in $CO_2$ release among tress.
The properties of the wood pellets from damaged wood by forest fire and sound woods were investigated. Oven-dry densities of pellets made from sound wood and the damaged wood of Pinus densiflora were 0.93~0.94 and 0.86~0.88, respectively. Compressive strength of the pellets from the woods was ranged from 145 to $168kgf/cm^2$, and there was little difference between the sound wood and the damaged wood of P. densiflora. Ash content for the sound wood and the damaged wood of Pinus densiflora were 0.32~0.37% and 0.25~0.35%, respectively, and calorific values of each pellet were ranged from 18 to 19 MJ/kg. The result of elemental analysis in carbon. hydrogen and oxygen showed 45.8~48.8%, 6.2~6.5% and 46.5~48.0%, respectively. Consequently, there seem no significant difference in the properties between damaged and sound wood pellets.
This study was carried out to classify forest vegetation community of Dodeokbong and Baekwunbong in Gyeryongsan. Employing the releve method of Dierssen, 89 plots were sampled. Forest community was classified into Quercus mongolica community, Quercus serrata community, Quercus variabitis community, Pinus densiflora community, Carpinus laxiflora community, and Pinus rigida-Pinus thunbergii community. Quereus mongolica community was found in high altitude and steep area, Quercus serrata community in relatively low altitude and steep slope area, and Quercus variabilis in southern arid and low area compared with Quercus mongolica community. Pinus densiflora community is present in relatively high altitude and narrow arid ridge area. And, Carpinus laxiflora community is mainly distributed in southern valley area. Pinus rigida-Pinus thunbergii community is planted community.
In a red pine (Pinus densiflora) forest, changes of pH, electric conductivity, total carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphate and available potassium in soil and runoff have been studied at intervals for 1 year after early spring fire. Phytimasses of herb and shrub were measured following the current and the subsequent year. The pH, E.C., total nitrogen and phosphate of soil in burned site wee 1.1, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 times higher than in unburned site, respectively. But potassium showed no significant difference. A rise in pH, E.C., and total nitrogen in burned site were maintained throught the study period while phosphate maintained 4 months after the fire. The E.C., total carbon, $NO_2-N$ and $NH_4-N$ of runoff in burned site were 1.3, 1.3, 1.3 and 29.0 times higher than in unburned site, respectively, while $NO_3-N$ in unburned site was 4 times higher than in burned site. In burned site, phytomasses of herb and shrub were 148 and 33% of unburned site in a current year and 107 and 51% in a subsequent year, respectively. The considerable amount of increase in soil nutrient after the fire was conserved by the uptake of the fast regrowing plants and by the immobilization of $NH_4=N$.
The purpose of this study was to estimate height growth pattern and to derive site index equation for Pinus densiflora grown at Mt. Osu region, Chungnam. A total of 21 repre - sentative trees from the established temporary plots around Boryeng and Cheongyang regions were destructively sampled to measure diameter, height, volume growth per 1-year interval by using of DTRS- 2000 measurement instrument. The Schnute growth function was select ed for height growth prediction using 181 height-age paired observations and derived anamorphic base age invariant site index curves (base index age 30 years). The fitted index and the asymptotic value of Schnute model indicated both 0.96 and 10.8 meter, respectively. The results suggested in this study could be very useful to understand the height growth pattern and productivity of the site quality on Pinus densiflora grown at Mt. Osu region, Chungnam.

This study was carried out to analyze forest vegetation of the Jangtaesan, Haetaesan, Ahnpyoungsan and Gubongsan in Daejeon. Employing the releve method of Braun-Blanquet, 76 plots were sampled. The communities were classified into Quercus mongolica community, Quercus variabilis community, and Pinus densiflora community. Average coverage rate was 85% in tree layer, 44% in subtree layer, 37% in shrub layer, 25% in herb layer, respectively. The importance values were 58.76 in Pinus densiftora, 44.86 in Quercus monegolica, 44.06 in Quercus variabilis, 33.00 in Quercus serrata, 18.73 in Rhus trichocarpa, 18.07 in Prunus sargentii. DBH range of most Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis was between 5cm and 20cm. Therefore, Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis will be dominant species in the study area for several more decades. Quercus mongolica community was distributed mainly on the north and east slope in a high-altitude and relative good nutrition condition. Querucus variabilis community was distributed mainly on the south slope in a middle-altitude and medium nutrition condition. Pinus densiflora community was distributed mainly in a low-altitude and poor nutrition condition.

With the species composition table, the forest community of Mt. Yeonginsan were classified into Quercus mongolica community, Pinus densiflora community, and Quercus acutissima community. The importance value of the study community was 73.55, 36.28, 29.87, 25.07, 24.88, and 21.25 in Quercus mongolica, Quercus serrata, Pinus densiflora, Pinus rigida, Larix leptolepis, and Quercus acutissima, respectively. According to breast diameter analysis, the importance value of Quercus mongolica, Quercus acutissima and Quercus serrata continuously increase.
The Dalbatjae-Birobong ridge forest in Mt. Sobaek area was studied to investigate forest community structure. Twenty 20m $\times$ 25m plots were set up in the studied ridge forest along altitude of 770m to 1,410m and vegetation analysis for tree stratum of the trees above 1cm DBH was carried out. The leading dominant tree species were Pinus densiflora in the lower elevation and Quercus mongolica in the higher elevation. According to importance value and cluster analysis, the studied ridge forest was classified into four forest communities of Pinus densiflora community, Pinus densiflora-Quercus mongolica community. Quercus mongolica community and Quercus mongolica-deciduous tree species community. According to importance value of major tree species in canopy and understory, the present community type seems to continue for a relatively long time. Species diversity of Pinus densiflora community, Pinus densiflora-Quercus mongolica community, Quercus mongolica community and Quercus mongolica-deciduous tree species community were 0.6791, 0.6850, 0.5296 and 0.7136, respectively.
The purpose of this study was to explain relationship between community structure and their environment variables in Mt. Hwaak. Samples were collected by 101 plots using ZM phytosociological method and followed by cluster, importance value and canonical correspondence analysis. The forest vegetation classified into 8 community types such as Pinus densiflora community, Berberis amurensis community, Betula ermani community, Betula schmidtii community, Larix leptolepis community, Pinus koraiensis community, Cornus controversa community and Salix koreensis community. Altitude was considered as the highest factor correlated to the community types. Berberis amurensis community and Betula ermani community were located in upper slope area of high elevation, Comus controversa community and Salix koreensis community in valley area, and Pinus densiflora community in ridge area, respectively.
