PEG(poly(ethylene glycol)) acrylate/PPG(poly(propylene glycol)) acrylate (PEG/PPG) was prepared using UV induced photopolymerization method to investigate gas permeation properties of the membrane. The effect of PPG content on the solubility, diffusivity, and permeability of $CO_2$, $O_2$, and $N_2$ in PEG/PPG membrane is reported at $25^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$. PEG/PPG (9:1) membrane exhibits $CO_2$ permeability coefficient of 28.9 barrer and $CO_2$/$N_2$ pure gas selectivity of 57.9 at $25^{\circ}C$. Permeability coefficient of increased with increasing with PPG content in the membrane. PEG/PPG (5:5) membrane shows $CO_2$ permeability coefficient of 78.9 barrer and $CO_2$/$N_2$ pure gas selectivity of 33.2 at $25^{\circ}C$.
Another comparison of alveolar gas pressures, in a continuously rebreathing dog lung, with pulmonary arterial (mixed venous) blood, again showed alveolar pressures to be the higher for $CO_2$ and usually $O_2$ (positive ${\Delta}Pco_2$, and ${\Delta}Po_2$). ${\Delta}Pco_2$ was almost invariably positive, it was independant of time and of plasma pH changes produced by acid or bicarbonate infusion, but proportional to blood $CO_2$ level. It was seemingly little affected by the distribution or magnitude of blood flow nor did it result from failure of $CO_2$ equilibrium within the blood, but it did rise with carbonic anhydrase inhibition. ${\Delta}Po_2$ was more variable and sometimes negative, particularly at low blood flow rates. It seemed in dependant of time, and plasma pH changes, apart from an inverse relationship with that resulting from $CO_2$ changes. It existed despite considerable potential for gas exchange, and was unaffected by inhibition of the $CO_2$ reactions.

Pulp canal obliteration(PCO) is seen commonly in dental pulp after traumatic tooth injuries and is recognized clinically as early as 3 monthly after injury. Pulp canal obliteration is characterized by deposition of hard tissue within the root canal space and yellow discoloration of the clinical crown. Opinion differs among practitioners as to whether to treat these cases upon early detection of PCO or to observe them until symptoms or radiographic signs of pulpal necrosis are detected. PCO may make root canal treatment necessary because of the development of apical periodotitis or for cosmetic reasons. If carefully executed, root canal treatment in teeth with an PCO is hightly successful and may act as a basis for internal bleaching. During a game, a 12-year-old girl was hit in the face. At that time, she was diagnosis a subluxation of the maxillary right central incisor. At the 24-month recall examination, a root canal of the tooth had been calcified and discolored gradually. We performed endodontic treatment to prevent perfect pulp canal obliteration and internal bleaching.
Poor indoor air quality is now worldwide concern due to its adverse impacts on our health and environment. Moreover, these impacts carry a significant burden to the economy. Various technical approaches (e.g., biological, activated carbon fiber (ACF), photocatlytic oxidation (PCO), etc.) have gained popularity in controlling indoor volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This is because removing indoor VOC sources or increasing ventilation rates is often not feasible or economical. This review provides an overview of the various air purification technologies used widely to improve indoor air quality. Although most of these technologies are very useful to remove indoor VOCs, there is no single fully satisfactory method due to their diversity and presence at the low concentration. To achieve technical innovations and the development of specific testing protocols, one should possess a better knowledge on the mechanisms of substrate uptake at VOC concentrations.
Gas-Permeable polymeric membranes containing carboxyl groups which are suitable for enzyme immobilization were investigated in order to use them as gas electrode membranes in biosensors. Carboxylated polyurethane (CPU) was synthesized via a reaciton between 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid as a chain extender and prepolymers prepared from polycarprolactone(Mn=2,000) and 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocynate. It was difficult to prepared membranes from the pure CPU because of its high elasticity and cohesion. However, transparent free-standing membranes were easily prepared from the blend solution of CPU and carboxylated poly(vinyl chloride)(CPVC) in tetrahydrofuran. Both elasticity and cohesion of the CPU/CPVC membranes were decreased with increasing the content of CPVC. DSC experiment suggests that CPU and CPVC may be well mixed. Permeability coefficients for O₂and CO₂(Po₂and Pco₂)in the membranes increased as the proportion of CPU increased. The addition of dioxtyl phthalate(DOP), a plasticizer, significantly enhanced the Po₂and Pco₂which were 4,4 and 30 barrer, respectively, in the CPU/CPVC(80/20 wt/wt) membranes containing 20% of DOP at 25℃ and 100psi. Thus this type of membranes may have a potential for the use as gas electrode membranes in biosensors.
Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the effects of Cyperi Rhizoma (CR) on changes in weights morphological and histopathological observations in Polycystic Ovary(PCO) rats. Methods: PCO was induced by single intramuscular injection with EV(2mg) in female rats. Normal group(n=8) were injected with sesame oil and orally administrated distilled water for five weeks. PCO control group(n=8) were injected with EV and orally administrated distilled water for five weeks. CR treated group(n=8) were injected with EV and orally administrated CR for five weeks. Then we measured weight of body, ovaries. The histopathology changes of ovaries, and the expression of nerve growth factor(NGF) were also evaluated. Results: Single injection of EV induced suppression of weight gain, formation of cysts, increase of NGF expression. Oral administration of CR prevent suppression of weight gain shown in control group. In addition CR group showed upward tendency of ovarian size. Formation of cystic follicles induced by EV injection is suppressed by CR treatment. In additon, CR treatment lowered expression levels of nerve growth factor(NGF), which were elevated by induction of PCOS. Conclusion: These results suggest that CR can be used for patients with PCOS to prevent formation of cystic follicles and malfunction of ovary. And also suggest that the related mechanisms are involved in suppression of NGF expression.
Studies on visible-light-driven photocatalysis of air pollutants at indoor air quality (IAQ) levels have been limited. Current study investigated visible-light derived photocatalysis with N-doped and S-doped titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) for the control of benzene at indoor levels. Two preparation processes were employed for each of the two types of photocatalyst: urea-Degussa P-25 $TiO_2$ and titania-colloid methods for the N-doped $TiO_2$; and titanium isopropoxid- and tetraisopropoxide-thiourea methods for the S-doped $TiO_2$. Furthermore, two coating methods (EDTA- and acetylacetone-dissolving methods) were tested for both the N-doped and S-doped $TiO_2$. The two coating methods exhibited different photocatalytic degradation efficiency for the N-doped photocatalysts, whereas they did not exhibit any difference for the S-doped photocatalysts. In addition, the two doping processes showed different photocatalytic degradation efficiency for both the S-doped and N-doped photocatalysts. For both the N-doped and S-doped $TiO_2$, the photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) efficiency increased as the hydraulic diameter (HD) decreased. The degradation efficiency determined via a PCO system with visible-light induced $TiO_2$ was lower than that with UV-light induced unmodified $TiO_2$, which was obtained from previous studies. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that for the photocatalytic annular reactor with the HD of 0.5 cm, PCO efficiency increased up to 52% for the N-doped $TiO_2$ and 60% for the S-doped $TiO_2$. Consequently, when combined with the advantage of visible light use over UV light use, it is suggested that with appropriate HD conditions, the visible-light-assisted photocatalytic systems can also become an important tool for improving IAQ.

In this study, we performed the deployment test of shape memory polymer specimens for space antenna design. Poly(cyclootene) was cross-linked by dicumyl peroxide to make a PCO shape memory polymer. A miniature specimen with 120 mm diameter for a deployable antenna was fabricated with the PCO shape memory polymer. To investigate the deployment performance, the folded specimen as a temporary shape was heated by two heaters to the $15^{\circ}C$ higher temperature than the glass transition temperature of shape memory polymer. Firstly, the specimen was installed horizontally and tested. The deploying motion was captured by a digital camera and analyzed by a Tracker program. To reduce the effects of gravity, the specimen was installed vertically and tested again. The deployment performance of a shape memory polymer was investigated by comparing the results of horizontal and vertical installation tests.
Objective : Young neurosurgeons need to focus on the mortality and morbidity of aneurysmal neck clipping to develop a personal experience with an initial series. Methods : Total 88 aneurysms from 75 patients who underwent neck clipping by the same operator from 2001 to 2004 were reviewed. Patients were divided into three groups : first year [Group I], second year [Group II], and third year [Group III] in each group. Location of aneurysm, age, Fisher grade, Hunter-Hess grade [H-H grade], postoperative Glasgow outcome scale [GOS], and complications related to surgical procedures were evaluated with Chi-square and logistic regression analyses. Results : Fourteen patients had complications related to surgery [18.7%]. The major causes of mortality and morbidity related to surgery were cerebral infarction, hemorrhage and brain swelling due to intraoperative rupture, brain retraction and vasospasm. Among the 4 cases of mortality were 2 patients in Group I, 1 patient in Group II and 1 patient in Group III, and location of aneurysms were 2 internal carotid artery[ICA] and 2 posterior communicating artery[PCoA] aneurysms. There were 4 morbidity and new neurological deficits in Group I, 4 in Group II and 2 in Group III. Although mortality and morbidity during the learning curve had a statistical significance in H-H grade, age [>60 years old], and aneurysm location [especially ICA aneurysm] as variables, mortality mainly occurred in ICA and PCoA aneurysms. Conclusion : Experienced supervision or endovascular approach should be considered for the treatment of ICA and PCoA aneurysms during the learning curve.
Poria cocos has been traditionally used for the treatment of edema, scanty urine, dizziness due to retention of fluid, reduced appetite due to asthenia of spleen, loose stool, diarrhea, distraction, sudden palpitation and insomnia in East Asia. The aim of this study was to confirm whether Poria cocos wonfire whethe(PCWE) and Poria cocos ointment (PCO) have a preventive e of ter Pthe development of afire wdethe(PCWE (AD) in 2,4-Diniwhochlorobenzene (oria)-applied Balb/ wme e. Oral administration (12.5wmg/kg, 25wmg/kg) of PCWE and fire al application (O.5wmg/mouse, 1.0mg/mouse) of PCO decreased the development of AD-like skin lesions, ear swelling, spleen weight, total serum IgE. PCWE and PCO significantly also inhibited the infiltration of mast cells in the dorsal skin.
