  • Sonobuoy is widely used as a very important sensor in combat management system using P-3 patrol aircraft due to its advantages of rapid searching into wide exploration range. It is necessary to verify the performance of developed sonobuoy system using various maritime test data in order to be successfully applied in combat management system. But it is difficult to acquire various real maritime data because it needs much time and effort. Therefore we have developed in this paper a synthetic signal generator and a simulator that they can verify the performance of sonobuoy system and evaluate its operational effectiveness without conducting maritime test. We have synthesized target signals based on the characteristics of underwater sound sources, and then developed the synthesized signal generator which consider to sound propagation etc. like as underwater environment. And in the simulator development we use a HMI technique to enhance the convenience of operator, and design to verify the performance of sonobuoy system. The developed signal generator and simulator can be used as useful tools to evaluate the operational effectiveness such as optimal deployment of sonobuoy in combat management system using P-3 patrol aircraft.

  • Potholes on the road directly affect drivers' safety, satisfaction, and vehicle damage. Thus, real-time detection and response are required. Increasing frequency of patrols allows for potholes to be detected and responded to quickly, but this takes much manpower, money, and time. In addition, potholes have different occurrence characteristics depending on the rain conditions, so it is necessary to consider the optimal frequency from an economic and road-service perspective. Therefore, a quantitative analysis was done on the effects of rainfall on the occurrence characteristics of potholes. Information on the persistence, impact of rainfall intensity, and weather information was collected over a long period. Based on the results, a risk-based, optimized, and changeable road-patrol strategy is presented. The analysis results show that the probability of pothole occurrence increases by 2.4 times in rainy weather. Furthermore, the impact continues for 3 days even after the rain stops. The probability of pothole occurrence increases by 0.46% per 1 mm of rainfall, and the occurrence characteristics react sensitively to even a small amount of rain of around 1 mm. It was concluded that road patrol is required at least once every three days for an effect-free period, while twice a day is needed for the "sphere of influence" period to achieve a 95% reliability level.ys for effect-free period, while twice a day for sphere of influence period to satisfy 95% reliability level.

  • Carbon fiber is an excellent structural material, which has been proven in many industries, and the shipbuilding industry is no exception. In particular, in advanced maritime countries, special ships of the Navy and Coast Guard with carbon fiber composite hulls have already been deployed. In Korea, carbon fiber composite materials have been applied to a 10-ton class leisure craft or a 30-ton class patrol, but no research has been done on a hundred of tons or more vessels. In this study, the feasibility study of a 500-ton patrol vessel with a carbon fiber composite hull was conducted through an analysis of similar cases abroad. As a result, it was recognized that the developed hull can be reduced in weight by about 21% to 25% compared to the existing aluminum or FRP hull. It was also confirmed that this light-weight effect can induce the improvement of the maximum speed and the improvement of the operating range via simulations.

  • High speed naval ships are configured with open shafts The shafts, bearings, and propellers are supported by shaft struts. Proper design of struts involves issues of structural, vibration, and hydrodynamic analysis and design. Strut arm cavitation in high speed occurs because of a misalignment of the strut arm with the local incident flow. Proper selection of the strut section can minimize the generation of cavitation. This paper describes issues in the design struts and notices based on the design of Patrol Craft and Amphibious Ship.

  • In this study, the author uses a MATLAB simulation to develop and test a generalization of the traditional Random Search model which allows both the searcher and target to move and to be in different, but overlapping, areas. Also the best evasion speed for a randomly moving target against a Systematic Search is studied.

  • The detector subsystem of the Optical Wide-field Patrol (OWL) network efficiently acquires the position and time information of moving objects such as artificial satellites through its chopper system, which consists of 4 blades in front of the CCD camera. Using this system, it is possible to get more position data with the same exposure time by changing the streaks of the moving objects into many pieces with the fast rotating blades during sidereal tracking. At the same time, the time data from the rotating chopper can be acquired by the time tagger connected to the photo diode. To analyze the orbits of the targets detected in the image data of such a system, a sequential procedure of determining the positions of separated streak lines was developed that involved calculating the World Coordinate System (WCS) solution to transform the positions into equatorial coordinate systems, and finally combining the time log records from the time tagger with the transformed position data. We introduce this procedure and the preliminary results of the application of this procedure to the test observation images.
