  • Purpose : Rotaviruses are the major cause of gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide. It is important to get the epidemiologic data of rotavirus genotype for the application of rotavirus vaccine. So we tried to investigate the distribution of rotavirus genotypes with RT-PCR. Methods : A total of 120 rotavirus latex agglutinin test positive stool samples were collected continually from 120 children from Sep. 2000 to Apr. 2001. Rotavirus P(VP4), G (VP7) genotypes were determined by RT-PCR. Results : The genotype was identified in 116 stool samples of total 120 samples(96%). The incidence of G genotype was as follow; G1 17(14.2%), G2 74(61.7%), G4 1(0.8%), G9 1(0.8%). There were four cases of multiple genotypes; G1/G2, G1/G4, G1/G9, G8/G9 and genotype of G3, G8 were not found. Twenty three(19.2%) samples were nontypeable. The incidence of P was as follow; P[4] 77(64.2%), P[6] 22(18.3%), P4/P6 12(10%), P[4]/P[8] 1(0.8%) p[8] 1(0.8%). Seven(5.9%) samples were nontypeable. Conclusion : Various combinations of G and P genotypes were observed. Most rotavirus strains were P[4]G2 62(51.74%), followed by P[6]G2 7(5.8%), and P[6]G1 7(5.8%), P[4/P[6] G1 4(3%), P[4]/P[6]G2 4(3%), P[4]G1 3(2.5%), P[8]G2 1(0.8%), P[4]G4 1(0.8%) in Kyoungsangnamdo, Korea during 2000~2001.

  • Sixty premolars extracted for orthodontic treatment were divided into four groups, and the residual resin was removed with four different rotary finishing instruments at a fixed speed of $18,500{\pm}300 rpm$ on the low speed handpiece. The instruments were G1; No.169L carbide fissure bur, G2: No.2 round bur, G3; No.4 round bur, G4: No.8 round bur. Then, the enamel received a S-second polishing with a rubber cup and a pumice. To find the extent of loss on the enamel at this point, prophylaxis was done with the rubber cup and pumice prior to bonding of the bracket(P1) and removal of residual resin by means of appropriate procedure applicable to each respective group(P2) followed. The final polishing was done with the rubber cup and pumice(P3), and the enamel surface roughness was measured each by the surface measuring instrument. The whole process was observed under a scanning electron microscope to gain the following results: At P2, the enamel surface roughness in G1 showed most smoothly with $2.60{\pm}0.55{\mu}m;\;in\;G2,\;3.24{\pm}0.80{\mu}m;\;in\;G3,\;3.44{\pm}0.94{\mu}m;\;in\;G4,\;3.89{\pm}0.54{\mu}m$, the roughest. G2 and G3 showed no statistical significance(P>0.05). At P3, the enamel surface roughness in G1 showed most smoothly with $2.29{\pm}0.47{\mu}m;\;in\;G2,\;2.44{\pm}0.56{\mu}m;\;in\;G3,\;2.44{\pm}0.56{\mu}m;\;in\;G4,\;2.92{\pm}0.43{\mu}m$, the roughest. G1 vs G2, G3, and G2 vs G3 had no statistical significances(p>0.05). In all groups, P2 and P3 showed rougher in surface roughness than P1, and P2 rougher than P3(p<0.01). In a case of 5-second prophylaxis with the rubber cup and the pumice on a virgin, normal enamel, fine scratches were found under the scanning electron microscope. In all four groups, unremovable gouges remained even after polishing with the ubber and pumice; residual resin was not observed with naked eye when finished with the rubber and pumice, but the resin debris was observed under the scanning electron microscope.

  • Purpose : This study was undertaken to determine the differences in genotypes of rotavirus and their incidence between patients with acute rotaviral enteritis who suffered neurologic complications and those who did not suffer neurologic complications. Methods : Among the 82 patients with rotaviral enteritis whose genotype was analyzed, 71 patients were not associated with neurologic complications(neurology(-) group), and eleven patients were associated with neurologic complications(neurology(+) group). Four G genotypes and four P genotypes were determined by reverse trans cription and multiplex polymerase chain reaction. Results : In the neurology(-) group, the number of G4, G3, G2 and G1 was 24(35.3 percent), 23 (33.8 percent), 17(25.0 percent) and 4(5.6 percent), respectively and the number of P6, P4, P8 and P9 was 26(36.1 percent), 23(31.9 percent), 22(30.6 percent) and 1(1.4 percent), respectively. G2P4, and G4P6 were the most frequently found com bination genotypes, respectively. In the neurology(+) group, the number of G2, G3 and G4 was 9(75.0 percent), 2(16.7 percent) and 1(8.3 percent), respectively and the number of P4, P6, P8 and P9 was 8(66.7 percent), 2(16.7 percent), 1(8.3 percent) and 1(8.3 percent), respectively. G2P4 was the most frequently found combination genotype. The incidence of each of the G2, P4 and G2P4 was significantly higher in the neurology(+) group when compared to that of each of the G2, P4, and G2P4 in the neurology(-) group. Conclusion : In the patients with acute rotavirus gastroenteritis associated with neurologic complications, the G1 genotype was not found and genotypes of the G2, P4, and G2P4 were more frequently found.

  • For a polygon P, we consider the centroid $G_0$ of the vertices of P, the centroid $G_1$ of the edges of P and the centroid $G_2$ of the interior of P. When P is a triangle, (1) we always have $G_0=G_2$ and (2) P satisfies $G_1=G_2$ if and only if it is equilateral. For a quadrangle P, one of $G_0=G_2$ and $G_0=G_1$ implies that P is a parallelogram. In this paper, we investigate the relationships between centroids of quadrangles. As a result, we establish some characterizations for rhombi and show that among convex quadrangles whose two diagonals are perpendicular to each other, rhombi and kites are the only ones satisfying $G_1=G_2$. Furthermore, we completely classify such quadrangles.

  • Let G be a group and let $p$ be a prime number. If the set $\mathcal{A}(G)$ of all commuting automorphisms of G forms a subgroup of Aut(G), then G is called $\mathcal{A}(G)$-group. In this paper we show that any $p$-group with cyclic maximal subgroup is an $\mathcal{A}(G)$-group. We also find the structure of the group $\mathcal{A}(G)$ and we show that $\mathcal{A}(G)=Aut_c(G)$. Moreover, we prove that for any prime $p$ and all integers $n{\geq}3$, there exists a non-abelian $\mathcal{A}(G)$-group of order $p^n$ in which $\mathcal{A}(G)=Aut_c(G)$. If $p$ > 2, then $\mathcal{A}(G)={\cong}\mathbb{Z}_p{\times}\mathbb{Z}_{p^{n-2}}$ and if $p=2$, then $\mathcal{A}(G)={\cong}\mathbb{Z}_2{\times}\mathbb{Z}_2{\times}\mathbb{Z}_{2^{n-3}}$ or $\mathbb{Z}_2{\times}\mathbb{Z}_2$.

  • For a quadrilateral P, we consider the centroid G0 of the vertices of P, the perimeter centroid G1 of the edges of P and the centroid G2 of the interior of P, respectively. It is well known that P satisfies G0 = G1 or G0 = G2 if and only if it is a parallelogram. In this paper, we investigate various quadrilaterals satisfying G1 = G2. As a result, we establish some characterization theorems. One of them asserts the existence of convex quadrilaterals satisfying G1 = G2 without symmetry.

  • Five different plant cell wall degrading enzymes were tested for their ability to release p -hydroxybenzoic acid from carrot alcohol insoluble residue (AIR) and cellulose fraction. Phenolics of AIR from cell wall materi민 (CWM) in carrot were found to consist primarily of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (1,977 $\mu$g/g AIR) with minor contribution from vanillin (55.9 $\mu$g/g AIR), ferulic acid (13.6 $\mu$g/g AIR) and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (10.6 $\mu$g/g AIR). The contents of ferulic acid in Driselase, Cellulase, Macerozyme R-200, Macerozyme R-10 and Sumyzyme MC were 2,319, 2,060, 391, 95.2, 34.1 $\mu$g/g, respectively. Incubation of Driselase with AIR released only 2.8$\%$ of the total 4 M NaOH extractable p-hydroxybenzoic acid. These results indicate that commercial five plant cell wall dograding enzymes can not release P-hydroxybenzoic acid from carrot AIR and cellulose fraction.
