  • Recently, an earthquake-resistant has become essential to the large-scale structures at Gyeonggi and Gyeongsangnam province in Korea, but it is generally compared the measured data with foreign references because of the lack of the research data. It will be presented the characteristics of suitable dynamic elastic modulus in Korean geology, which characteristics are characterized the seismic wave velocities($V_p,\;V_s$) and correlation with dynamic elastic modulus($E_d,\;G_d\;K_d$) by each rock type of Korean granite, because it is very different between the values of foreign references and Korean geological characteristics.

  • This study was carried out to examine the genetic constitution of serum proteins and enzymes in Holstein Friesian cattle population. The genetic variants of post-transferrin-2(pTf-2), transferrin(Tf), post-albumin(pAlb), ceruloplasmin(Cp) and amylase-I(Am-I) were analyzed by using PAGE(polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) and STAGE(starch gel electrophoresis). In serum proteins, the pTf-2 locus were observed to be controlled by codominant alleles designated F and S, and the distribution of genotypes were 76.34, 14.50 and 9.10% for pTf-2 FF, FS and SS types, respectively. The gene frequencies of the pTf-2 F and S allele were 0.836 and 0.164. The Tf locus were found to be controlled by four alleles, Tf A, D1, D2 and E at a single locus, and the distribution of genotypes were 6.11, 32.06, 19.08, 1.53, 10.69, 18.32, 9.92 and 2.29% for Tf AA, AD1, AD2, AE, D1D1, D1D2, D2D2 and D2E type, respectively. The gene frequencies of the Tf A, D1, D2 and E wee 0.321, 0.359, 0.298 and 0.019. The pAlb locus were identified to be genetically controlled by two alleles, pAlb F and S allele, and the distribution of genotypes were 32.06, 29.77 and 38.17% for pAlb FF, FS and SS types, respectively. The gene frequencies of the pAlb F and S allele were 0.461 and 0.531. The Alb locus were observed to be controlled by Alb A and B allele, and the gene frequencies of these were 0.996 and 0.004. In serum enzymes, the Cp locus were found to be controlled by F and S allele, and the distribution of genotypes were 46.57, 27.48 and 25.95% for Cp FF, FS and SS types, respectively. The gene frequencies of F and S allele were 0.603 and 0.394. The Am-I locus were observed to be controlled by Am-I B and C allele, and the distribution of genotypes were 39.69, 21.73 and 38.93% for Am-I BB, BC and CC types, the gene frequencies of Am-I B and C were 0.503 and 0.497, respectively.

  • Let E be a free product of a finite number of cyclic groups, and S a normal subgroup of E such that $$E/S{\sim_=}G$$ is finite. For a prime p, $\hat{S}=S/S^{\prime}S^p$ may be regarded as an $F_pG$-module via conjugation in E. The aim of this article is to prove that $\hat{S}$ is decomposable into two indecomposable modules for finite elementary abelian p-groups G.

  • The effect of activated carbon particle diameter (i.e. US sieve No. $8{\times}10$ ($d_p{\approx}2.19mm$), $18{\times}20$ ($d_p{\approx}0.92mm$), $50{\times}60$ ($d_p{\approx}0.27mm$) and $170{\times}200$ ($d_p{\approx}0.081mm$) on caffeine adsorption is investigated. BET surface area was increased with decreasing particle diameter ($d_p$), and caffeine adsorption rates increased with decreasing $d_p$. Moreover, pseudo-second order model is predicted the experimental data more accurately than pseudo-first order model, and the fastest rate constant ($k_2$) was $1.7g\;mg^{-1}min^{-1}$ when $d_p$ was 0.081 mm. Surface diffusion coefficient (Ds) was decreased with decreasing $d_p$ based on the minimum sum of square error (SSE). Practically, certain ranges of Ds are acceptable with high reliability ($R^2$) and it is determined that the effect of $d_p$ on Ds is unclear. The effect of pH on caffeine adsorption indicated the dependency of m/L ratio (mass liquid ratio) and $pH_{pzc}$. The $pH_{pzc}$ (i.e. $7.9{\pm}0.2$) was not affected by $d_p$. The higher caffeine adsorption at pH 4 and pH 7 than at pH 10 is due to $pH_{pzc}$, not $pk_a$ of caffeine.

  • Dendropanax morbiferus H. Lev has been reported to have some pharmacologic activities and also interested in functional cosmetics. We found that the water extract of D. morbiferus leaves significantly inhibited tyrosinase activity and melanin formation in α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH)-induced B16-F10 cells. D. morbiferus reduced melanogenesis-related protein levels, such as microphthalmia? associated transcription factor (MITF), TRP-1, and TRP-2, without any cytotoxicity. Two active ingredients of D. morbiferus, (10E)-9,16-dihydroxyoctadeca-10,17-dien-12,14-diynoate (DMW-1) and (10E)-(?)-10,17-octadecadiene-12,14-diyne-1,9,16-triol (DMW-2) were identified by testing the anti-melanogenic effects and then by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) analysis. DMW-1 and DMW-2 significantly inhibited melanogenesis by the suppression of protein kinase A (PKA)/cyclic AMP (cAMP)-responsive binding protein (CREB) and p38 MAPK phosphorylation. DMW-1 showed a better inhibitory effect than DMW-2 in α-MSH-induced B16-F10 cells. D. morbiferus and its active component DMW-1 inhibited melanogenesis through the downregulation of cAMP, p-PKA/CREB, p-p38, MITF, TRP-1, TRP-2, and tyrosinase. These results indicate that D. morbiferus and DMW-1 may be useful ingredients for cosmetics and therapeutic agents for skin hyperpigmentation disorders.

  • This study compared and analyzed the quality characteristics of five different apple juice concentrates (A~E) after alcoholic fermentation to establish test indicators for their defects. From our results, the titratable acidity was nearly similar in all diluted solutions. However, A and D showed a high pH of above 4.0 while B, C and E exhibited a low pH of below 3.0. In terms of free sugar content, maltose was undetected in A and D. In contrast, about 698 mg% maltose was found in C and more than 1,000 mg% maltose were detected in B and E. Malic acid, one of the main organic acids in apple, was measured at a high value of about 600 mg% in A and D and about 50 mg% in B, C and E. Potassium, one of the main minerals, was about 180 mg% in A and D, whereas a small amount of potassium, ranging between 6~9 mg% were present in B, C and E. Preservative (by sorbic acid) was not detected at all in all apple juice concentrates (A~E). When the above diluted apple concentrates were fermented, the alcohol contents were 11.2% and 10.8% in DAFB and AAFB, respectively. Alcoholic fermentation almost did not take place in BAFB, CAFB and EAFB. The use of maltose as the yeast may have influenced the fermentation. However, B, C and E were thought to be either defective or contaminated apple concentrates based on the analysis results of free sugar and organic acid.

  • In my former paper [3] I defined an almost periodicity of weakly sationary random processes (a.p.w.s.p.) and presented some basic results of it. In this paper I shall present some notes on the Fourier series of an a.p.w.s.p., resulting from [3]. All the conditions at the introduction of [3] are assumed to hold without repreating them here. The essential facts are as follows : The weakly stationary process $X(t,\omega), t\in(-\infty,\infty), \omega\in\Omega$, defined on a probability space $(\Omega,a,P)$, has a spectral representation $$X(t,\omega)=\int_{-\infty}^{infty}{e^{it\lambda\xi}(d\lambda,\omega)},$$ where $\xi(\lambda)$ is a random measure. Then, the continuous covariance $\rho(\mu) = E(X(t+u) X(t))$ has the form $$\rho(u)=\int_{-\infty}^{infty}{e^{iu\lambda}F(d\lambda)},$$ $E$\mid$\xi(\lambda+0)-\xi(\lambda-0)$\mid$^2 = F(\lambda+0) - F(\lambda-0) \lambda\in(-\infty,\infty)$, assumimg that $\rho(u)$ is a uniformly almost periodic function.

  • In this study, we carried out an experimental shield TBM excavation model test using a down-scale device in soft clay, to understand tunnel-face stability properties in relation to changes in slurry pressure. We performed five tests according to tunnel depth (0.5D, 0.75D, 1.0D, 1.25D, 1.5D), and compared theoretical tunnel-face pressure with model test results. The range in theoretical tunnel-face slurry pressure ($P_{min}{\leq}P_{slurry\;pressure}{\leq}P_{max}$), which is determined by earth pressure and water level, was very similar to the model test result. This result was due to the more isotropic condition of the soft clay ground, than of rocky ground.

  • A 6~10 GHz wide-band power amplifier was designed using an InGaAs enhancement-mode(E-mode) $0.15{\mu}m$ pseudomorphic high-electron-mobility transistor(pHEMT). The positive gate bias of the E-mode pHEMT device removes the need for complex negative voltage generation circuits, therefore reducing the module size. The wire bond and substrate loss parameters were modeled and extracted using a three-dimensional electromagnetic(3D EM) simulation. For wideband characteristics, lossy matching was adopted and the gate bias was optimized for maximum power and efficiency. The measured gain, in/output return loss, output power, and power-added efficiency were greater than 20 dB, 8 dB, 27 dBm, and 35 %, respectively, in the 6~10 GHz band.
