Electrochemical Characteristics at Copolymeric film Electrodes of [Ru(v-bpy)$_3$]$^{2+}$ and Vinylbenzoic Acid Modified with Dopamine (Dopamine으로 수식된 [Ru(v-bpy)$_3$$^{2+}$와 Vinylbenzoic Acid의 공중합 피막 전극의 전기화학 특성)

  • The $[Ru(v-bpy)_3]^{2+}$ and vinylbenzoic acid (vba) were electrochemically copolymerized to afford electrodes modified with dopamine to study their properties such as electropolymerization rate, redox process, and electron transfer. The optimum mole ratio of the monomers was 5:2, which gave $1.84{ imes}10^{-2}s^{-1}$ of rate constant for first order reaction, while the ratio of the substances on the copolymeric film produced was 5:1.68. The formal potential produced from the hydroquinone=quinone+$2H^+2e^-$reaction at the electrode of GC/p- $[Ru(v-bpy)_3]^{2+}$/vba-dopamine was 0.17 V in phosphate buffer (pH=7.10). The electrocatalytic rate was $2.58{ imes}10^5cms^{-1}$;2.41 times faster than that of non-modified one. The mass change measured by EQCM was $3.28{ imes}10^3$$gmol^{-1}$ which is larger than that of non-modified one.

Novel Poly(p-phenylenevinylene)s Derivatives with CF3-Phenyl Substituent for Light-Emitting Diodes

  • New PPV derivatives which contain electron-withdrawing trifluoromethyl ($CF_3$) group, poly[2-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-5-(4-trifluoro methylphenyl)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (EH$CF_3$P-PPV), and poly[2-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-5-(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)-phenyl)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (EHB$CF_3$P-PPV), have been synthesized by GILCH polymerization. As the result of the introduction of the electron-withdrawing $CF_3$ group to the phenyl substituent, the LUMO and HOMO energy levels of EH$CF_3$P-PPV (2.8, 5.1 eV) and EHB$CF_3$P-PPV (3.0, 5.3 eV) were lower than those of known poly[2-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-5-phenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (EHP-PPV) (2.6, 4.9 eV). These polymers have been used as the electroluminescent (EL) layers in double layer lightemitting diodes (LEDs) (ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al). EH$CF_3$P-PPV, and EHB$CF_3$P-PPV show maximum photoluminescence (PL) peaks at ${\lambda}_{max}$ = 550, 539 nm, and maximum EL peak at ${\lambda}_{max}$ = 545, 540 nm, respectively. The current-voltage-luminance (I-V-L) characteristics of the polymers show that turn-on voltages of EH$CF_3$P-PPV and EHB$CF_3$P-PPV are around 4.0 and 3.5 V, respectively.

  • This paper contains a review of methods to analise static and dynamic properties of trap states in TFTs. The Gap Density of States is extracted from C-V and I-V characteristics. Switch on transients and small signal ac measurements are used in conjunction with simulation and an analytic model to extract traps dynamic parameters.

  • We reported researches of possibility of the usage of known electrooptical effects (EOE) for diffractive displays (DLCD). We found different EOEs provide the possibility of broad selection of steepness of volt-contrast characteristics at rather large steep of modulation without the usage polarizes. The data are represented much promising for broad development DLCDs.

  • In this study, the effects of ZnO buffer layer thickness and annealing temperature on the heterojunction diode, ZnO/b-ZnO/p-Si(111), were reported. The effects of those on the structural and electrical properties of zinc oxide (ZnO) films on ZnO buffered p-Si (111) substrate were also studied. Structural properties of ZnO thin films were studied by X-ray diffraction and I-V characteristics were measured by a semiconductor parameter analyzer. ZnO thin films with 70 nm thick buffer layer and annealing temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ showed the best c-axis preferred orientation. The best electrical property was found at the condition of buffer layer annealing temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ and 50nm thick ZnO buffer layer (resistivity: $2.58{\times}10^{-4}[{\Omega}-cm]$, carrier concentration: $1.16{\times}1020[cm^{-3}]$). The I-V characteristics for ZnO/b-ZnO/p-Si(111) heterojunction diode were improved with increasing buffer layer thickness at buffer layer annealing temperature of $700^{\circ}C$.

Characteristics of Soil Chemical Properties in Abandoned Coal Mine Forest Rehabilitation Areas in Boryeong City, Chungcheongnam-do

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate soil chemical characteristics for forest rehabilitation and suggest management in abandoned coal mine areas in Boryeong City, Chungcheongnam-do. Total study sites were seven sites, and soil properties analyzed were soil pH, total organic carbon (TOC), total-N, C/N ratio, and available $P_2O_5$ (A.v. P). Average soil pH (range) was 5.9 (4.5~7.0). Three study sites (Samgwang, Shinsung1, and Shimwon1) showed lower soil pH than standard (pH 5.6~7.3) of Korea Industrial Standards (KS) for abandoned coal mine forest rehabilitation. Average contents of TOC, and total-N were 1.5% (0.1~4.7%), and 0.10% (0.03~0.23%), respectively. Five study sites where the collapsed time was less than 10 years (Wangjashingang, Wonpoong, Samgwang, Shinsung1, and Shinsung2) showed lower TOC level than standard of KS (more than 1.2%). Wangjashingang, Wonpoong, Samgwang, and Shinsung1 showed lower level of total-N than standard of KS (more than 0.09%). C/N ratio of six study sites except Shimwon1 was out of proper range (15:1~30:1). Average A.v. P (range) was $20.7mgkg^{-1}$ (4.8~63.1), less than other abandoned coal mine fores rehabilitation areas in Mungyong City, and Hwasun-gun. TOC, total N and A.v. P increased with elapsed time from forest rehabilitation, while other soil properties did not show distinct pattern. Betula platyphylla was planted in Samkwang and Sinsung where soil pH was less than KS standard. Because the growth of Betula platyphylla can be limited in acid soil, it is necessary to neutralize soil pH to proper level with some soil amendment such as lime or shell of oyster. Furthermore, TOC, total-N and A.v. P in early stage of forest rehabilitation showed lower level than proper to vegetation growth. Therefore it needs continuous monitoring of soil characteristics and fertilization for vegetation growth and influx from surrounding forest in early stage of rehabilitation.

Response Characteristics of pH-ISFET Urea Sensor (pH-ISFET 요소센서의 감응특성)

  • A preparation method and response characteristics of a urea sensor which consisted of pH-ISFET and urease-immobilized membrane were investigated. The pH-ISFET urea sensor was fabricated by immobilizing BSA and urease with glutaraldehyde on gate of the pH-ISFET. Effects of pH and concentration of working buffer and enzyme load on the pontentiometric response of the pH-ISFET urea sensor were examined. Response characteristics for the determination of urea in synthetic physiological saline solution (pH 7.4) were as follows. That is, the concentration range of linear response, slope of linear response (sensitivity), and response time were 5.0 ${\times}$ $10^{-4}$ ${\sim}$ 5.0 ${\times}$ $10^{-2}$M, 31.6 mV/decade and 4${\sim}$10 min, respectively.

Isolation and Cultural Characteristics of Styrene Dimer [Endocrine Disrupter] Biodegrading Microorganism (Styrene dimer [환경호르몬 물질] 분해균주의 분리 및 배양특성)

  • We examined the culture conditions and degrading characteristics of styrene dimer (endocrine disrupter) using microorganism. The isolated microbe were consisted of 3 kinds of strain. The strains were identified to Pseudomonas sp. and Klebsiella pneumoniae by API 20E kit, but one was not identified. Single strain was not grown on the C-medium containing styrene dimer. However the complex strain YH3 could grow and we confirmed it by the broth color and O.D$_{660nm}$ (optical density 660 nm). The optimal culture conditions of complex strain YH3 were 35$^{\circ}C$, 1,000 ppm (v/v) of styrene dimer and pH 7.0, respectively. In tolerance test against the organic solvents, the complex strain YH3 could grow above log P=3.1, and could degrade ethyl benzene and 2,4-D, one kind of herbicide. As a result of TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) analysis, we confirmed that the metabolite of styrene dimer was created by YH3 after 5th day, but not at control samples.
