Epinephrine was determined using a lab-made chemiluminescence (CL) system with air pump. Luminolsodium IO4? chemiluminescence system was employed to produce the luminescence of epinephrine. In the reaction, epinephrine was oxidized to produce superoxide or singlet oxygen by periodate in alkaline solution, which enhanced CL of luminol. For optimization, various buffers, such as phosphate, borate, and tris, were studied in this experiment. Compared to NaOH, the phosphate and borate buffer showed better reproducibility with similar sensitivity. Small amount of sample, 22 μL, was required for a measurement. The limit of quantification for epinephrine was obtained to be ~10?9 g/mL after optimization.

The effect of atmospheric gas on the surface cleanliness in the batch annealing furnace(BAF) is presented. It is very important to improve the surface cleanliness to investigate the surface defects such as carbon contamination, smudge and yellow color phenomenon on the surface of steel sheet. In order to study the occurrence of surface defects of steel sheet, the annealing operations were carried out in the H2 BAF with 75% hydrogen and conventional BAF with 4% hydrogen. The hydrogen is important factor that affect the energy saving in the entire annealing cycle and the surface cleanliness. In the conventional BAF, it shows that to protect the yellow color phenomenon the proper finish temperature is $80^{\circ}C$ and in the smudge sample the oxidized thickness has the depth of $120{\AA}$.
The proposed method for an effective assay of Cd, Cr and Pb in several polymer samples has been validated. The determination was carried out using ICP-OES after a high pressure asher (HPA) digestion at pressure and temperatures up to 13 MPa and $320^{\circ}C$, respectively. Polymer based materials were totally oxidized with nitric acid in a HPA chamber and determined by ICP-OES. Validation parameters such as linearity, matrix effect, limit of dectection (LOD), limit of quantitation (LOQ), accuracy and precision (repeatibility, intermediate precision and reproducibility) were assessed. The LOD and LOQ in the sample were ranged from 0.98 to 1.18 mg $kg^{-1}$ and 2.93 to 3.55 mg $kg^{-1}$, respectively, relying on the analyte. The proposed method had a good accuracy and precision for repeatability, intermediate precision with respect to days and analysts and reproducibility expressed as inter-laboratory study. The developed method was simple to use, suitable and applicable to various kinds of polymers.
The DL-norvaline was electrochemically oxidized and deposited on the glassy carbon electrode surface using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The modified electrode was examined for electrochemical oxidation of hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC). It exhibited good electrocatalytic ability towards their oxidation and simultaneous determination in a binary mixture using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The peak currents were linear to the concentration of HQ and CC, in the range from $5{\mu}M$ to $100{\mu}M$, and $4{\mu}M$ to $140{\mu}M$, respectively. The determination limits(S/N = 3) for HQ and CC were $1{\mu}M$ and $0.8{\mu}M$, respectively. The obtained modified electrode was applied to simultaneous detection of HQ and CC in water sample.
The objectives of this research were to estimate variation characteristics of TOC, UV-254 and NH4+-N, etc, if odorous generated algaes flowed into water treatment plant and they contacted with ozone known as typical advanced treatment. It was estimated that pH decreased from initial 7.4 to 2.1 after ozone contact 100min. pH declined to early 10min. suddenly and then pH drop did almost occur. TOC and UV-254 continued to decrease with passed time of ozone contact. NO3--N concentration was much higher than NH4+-N and NO2--N for whole test period. Because ozone oxidized organic matters as various kinds of ion material and ion intensity of sample was extended, conductivity showed high as passed time of ozone contact. Owing to ozone oxidation of algae, color did almost disappear after ozone contact 20min.

Scanning probe microscopes (SPMs) such as the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and the atomic force microscope (AFM) were used for surface modification tools at the nanometer scale. Material surfaces, i. e., titanium, hydrogen-terminated silicon and trimethylsilyl organosilane monolayer on silicon, were locally oxidized with the best lateral spatial resolution of 20nm. The principle behind this proximal probe oxidation method is scanning probe anodization, that is, the SPM tip-sample junction connected through a water column acting as a minute electrochemical cell. An SPM-nanolithogrphy process was demonstrated using the organosilane monolayer as a resist. Area-selective chemical modifications, i. e., etching, electroless plating with gold, monolayer deposition and immobilization of latex nanoparticles; were achieved in nano-scale resolution. The area-selectivity was based on the differences in chemical properties between the SPM-modified and unmodified regions.
The effects of N doping concentration and dopant moieties on the electrochemical properties of nanoporous graphene and their dependence on annealing temperature are investigated. Four types of N moieties - amide, amine, graphitic-N, and oxidized-N - are obtained, which transformed into pyridinic-N and pyrrolic-N upon annealing. The diffusion coefficient (D') of the ions in the electrode is the maximum at $400^{\circ}C$ because of a high level of N doping, whereas the second highest D0 value is obtained at $700^{\circ}C$ owing to a high level of reduction and N doping. The highest specific capacitance is obtained for the sample annealed at $400^{\circ}C$.
Several polyphenolic compounds and complex mixtures were isolated from brown algae species. The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhydarzyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of these compounds were evaluated to determine their physiological usefulness as antioxidants for vascular protection. The antioxidative protection of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) was also evaluated and compared with that of catechin, because the generation of oxidized LDL is one of the most active and specific risk factors contributing to atherogenesis. Oral administration to rats of a commercially available sample ($VNP^{TM}$) containing 30% of these polyphenolic compounds and 70% dietary fiber revealed that the serum reducing capacity measured in terms of FRAP value was significantly elevated 30 min after the treatment, but declined rather quickly thereafter, indicating the good oral absorption of the compounds and their fast binding to the lumenal surface of the blood vessels. An eight-week, human, clinical trial (n=31) of $VNP^{TM}$ showed significant improvement in erectile function measured by IIEF (international index of erectile function) score. These results collectively demonstrated the usefulness of these polyphenolic compounds as fundamental chemopreventive agents against vascular risk factors originating from oxidative stress.
In order to examine the constituents and weathered state of a lacquer specimen, analysis of the organic materials was conducted using py/GC/MS(pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry). The samples were obtained from the lacquered wooden sheath of a long ring-pommel sword excavated in the Imdang No.1 ancient tomb constructed around the Proto-Three Kingdoms period. In direct py/GC/MS, the sample and the dried Asian lacquer showed similar chromatograms, while the characteristic compounds of Asian lacquer such as 1,2-dimethoxy-3-pentadecylbenzene were observed in THM(thermally assisted hydrolysis and methylation)-py/GC/MS. In addition, compounds like dimethyl nonanedioate, which presumably originated from drying oil, were also detected. Furthermore, the detection of oxidized catechols in considerable amount indicated that the degradation of lacquer is estimated to result from the oxidation of urushiol. Therefore, it is suggested that the lacquered wooden sheath was prepared using Asian lacquer and drying oil, and that the lacquer layer was considerably oxidized over the long burial time.

Oxidized polyethylene wax (OPEW) is, one of the food additives, used as a coating agent in citrus fruits and nuts. OPEW is authorized to quantum satis in EU, USA, and is acceptable less than 250 mg/kg in Australia and New Zealand. But OPEW is unauthorized as a food additive in Korea. This study was to establish the analytical method of OPEW and demonstrate the effective application of various food samples. We first conducted to compare the various analytical method including acid value (AV), high temperature gel permeation chromatography (HT-GPC), matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/MS), gas chromatography flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). This result indicated that FT-IR spectrum of OPEW treated food sample displayed absorption bands for carbonyl group (C=O, $1714cm^{-1}$), ester group (C-O, $1463cm^{-1}$), aliphatic group (C-H, $2916cm^{-1}$). Furthermore, IR spectrum of OPEW treated food sample showed similar tendency with IR spectrum of OPEW standard. Therefore, it is confirmed that analytical method using FT-IR can be detected on analysis of OPEW in food. As a result of monitoring of 111 samples using established analytical method, OPEW was not detected in the food samples.
