In this study, we developed plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process for aluminum 7075 alloy to improve the corrosion and mechanical properties. The electrolyte consists of potassium hydroxide and sodium silicate. Additionally, sodium stannate was added into the electrolyte to investigate its effect on PEO film formation. Titanium was used as the counter electrode. Plasma generation voltage reduced from 300V to 150 V by adding 4 g/L of sodium stannate. The thin oxide films were observed by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy)/EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) for quantitative and qualitative analyses. XRD (X-ray diffraction) and XRF (X-ray Fluorescences) analyses were also carried out to identify oxide layer on aluminum 7075 surface. Vicker's hardness test was performed on the PEO-treated aluminum 7075 surface.

The stability of paraseodymium-based zinc oxide varistor consisting of Zn-Pr-Co-Cr-Y oxide was investigated according to yttria additives under different stress conditons, such as 0.8V\ulcorner\ulcorner/373K/12h and 0.85V\ulcorner\ulcorner/393K/12h. Wholly, all varistor after the stress showed nearly symmetric and stable I-V characteristics. Particularly, in the case of 2.0mol% and 4.0mol% yttria-added varistor showing a good I-V characteristics, the varation rate of varistor voltage were less 1% and that of nonlinear coefficient were about degree of 5%, and what is remarkable, leakage current with increasing stress time during the applied stress was almost constant. It the light of these facts, it is estimated that varistor constituents having 2.0mol% and 4.0mol% yittria, respectively, will be utilized to various application fields.

Utilization of high-voltage electrolyte additive(s) at a small fraction is a cost-effective strategy for a good solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation and performance improvement of a lithium-rich layered oxide-based high-energy lithium-ion cell by avoiding the occurrence of metal-dissolution that is one of the failure modes. To mitigate metal-dissolution, we explored fluorinated dual-additives of fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) and di(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)carbonate (DFDEC) for building-up of a good SEI in a 4.7 V full-cell that consists of high-capacity silicon-graphite composite (15 wt% Si/C/CF/C-graphite) anode and Li1.13Mn0.463Ni0.203Co0.203O2 (LMNC) cathode. The full-cell including optimum fractions of dual-additives shows increased capacity to 228 mAhg-1 at 0.2C and improved performance from the one in the base electrolyte. Surface analysis results find that the SEI stabilization of LMNC cathode induced by dual-additives leads to a suppression of soluble Mn2+-O formation at cathode surface, mitigating metal-dissolution event and crack formation as well as structural degradation. The SEI and structure of Si/C/CF/C-graphite anode is also stabilized by the effects of dual-additives, contributing to performance improvement. The data give insight into a basic understanding of cathode-electrolyte and anode-electrolyte interfacial processes and cathode-anode interaction that are critical factors affecting full-cell performance.

This work deals with the preparation of dense SiC based ceramics with high electrical conductivity without oxide sintering additives. SiC samples with different content of conductive Ti-NbC phase were hot pressed at $1850^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in Ar atmosphere under mechanical pressure of 30 MPa. The conductive phase is a mixture of Ti-NbC in weight ratio of Ti/NbC 1:4. Composite with 50% of conductive Ti-NbC phase showed the highest electrical conductivity of $30.6{\times}10^3\;S{\cdot}m^{-1}$, while the good mechanical properties of SiC matrix were preserved (fracture toughness 4.5 $MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and Vickers hardness 18.7 GPa). The obtained results show that use of NbC and Ti as sintering and also electrically conductive additives is appropriate for the preparation of SiC-based composite with sufficient electrical conductivity for electric discharge machining.

Cooperative effects of Rh, Ce and Zr added to Fe-based oxide mediums were investigated using temperature programmed redox reaction (TPR/TPO) and isothermal redox reaction in the view point of hydrogen storage and release. As the results of TPR/TPO, Rh was a sale additive to remarkably promote the redox reaction on the medium as evidenced by the lower highest peak temperature, even though its addition was to accelerate deactivation of the mediums due to sintering. On the other hand, Ce and Zr additives played an important role to suppress deactivation of the medium in repeated redox cycles. The medium co-added by Rh, Ce and Zr (FRCZ) exhibited synergistic performance in the repeated isothermal redox reaction, and the amount of hydrogen produced in the water splitting step at 623 K was highly maintained at ca. $17\;mmol{\cdot}g^{-1}-Fe$ during three repeated redox cycles.

Magnetite film on iron surface could be coated in strongly alkaline solution (12M NaH\OH) which contained additives such as NaHCO3, KCl and NaNO2, Iron plate was immersed in boiling solution ($130^{\circ}C$) contained above mentioned additives for 1 hour. There are some microcracks and these cracks proved to be the sites for the initiation of corrosion when immersed in 3% NaCl solution. To improve corrosion resistance of the coated steel plate, chromating was done as a post treatment. Chromate film was formed on magnetite oxide film potentiostatically at-918mV/SCE for five minutes at temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ in the alkaline solution containing 5g/l Na2Cr2O7.2H2O.Cr3O4 was electrodeposited on magnetite oxide film and Cr2O3 was electrodeposited on iron surface which was assumed as surface revealed due to microcracks. Increased corrosion resistance of chromated magnetite oxide film was proved in salt spray test & immersion test.

A significant drag reduction in the turbulent flow of CWM(coal Water Mixture) adding minute amounts of high molecular weight polymer additives has been obtained and it was compared with pure CWM.However, the rate of drag reduction could come down with flow time, which is caused by polymer degradation, The rate of drag reduction and polymer degradation is affected by polymer type, concentration, molecular weight, and flow velocity. In the present investigation, these important parameters were evaluated for their influences on polymer degradation in order to find out stable conditions for CWM transportation with time. It was necessary to determine the more effective type of polymer additives to guarantee the optimum conditions for CWM transport. Experiments were undertaken with a test section of pipe diameter 9.8mm and pipe length 3500mm(L/D=357) in a closed loop, and polyacrylamide and polyetylene oxide were utilized as polymer additives. The tests were carried out under the conditions of 200, 400, 700ppm of polymer concentrations. CWM concentrations utilized were 5% and 10% with flow velocities of 4.9m/s and 6.1m/s. Experimental data show that polyehylene oxide degraded faster than polyacrylamide in CWM transport, and polyacryamide is considered to be a more effective candidate as additive for long time-CWM transport. Polymer degradation is also found to be more likely at lower polymer concentrations, at higher flow velocities, and higher CWM concentrations.
As wrought stainless steel, sintered stainless steel (STS) has excellent high-temperature anti-corrosion even at high temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ and exhibit corrosion resistance in air. The oxidation behavior and oxidation mechanism of the sintered 316L stainless was reported at the high temperature in our previous study. In this study, the effects of additives on high-temperature corrosion resistances were investigated above $800^{\circ}C$ at the various oxides ($SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, MgO and $Y_2O_3$) added STS respectively as an oxidation inhibitor. The morphology of the oxide layers were observed by SEM and the oxides phase and composition were confirmed by XRD and EDX. As a result, the weight of STS 316L sintered body increased sharply at $1000^{\circ}C$ and the relative density of specimen decreased as metallic oxide addition increased. Compared with STS 316L sintered parts, weight change ratio corresponding to different oxidation time at $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$, decreased gradually with the addition of metallic oxide. The best corrosion resistance properties of STS could be improved in case of using $Y_2O_3$. The oxidation rate was diminished dramatically by suppression the peeling on oxide layers at $Y_2O_3$ added sintered stainless steel.
This study uses silicone monomer, DMA, crosslinking agent EGDMA, and initiator AIBN as a basic combination to prepare hydrogel lenses using fluorine-based perfluoro polyether and iron oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles as additives. After manufacturing the lens using iron oxide nanoparticles and zinc oxide nanoparticles, the optical, physical properties, and polymerization stability are evaluated to investigate the possibility of application as a functional hydrogel lens material. As a result of this experiment, it is found that the addition of the wetting material containing fluorine changes the surface energy of the produced hydrogel lens, thereby improving the wettability. Also, the addition of iron oxide and zinc oxide nanoparticles satisfies the basic hydrogel ophthalmic lens properties and slightly increases the UV blocking performance; it also increases the tensile strength by improving the durability of the hydrogel lens. The polymerization stability of the nanoparticles evaluated through the eluate test is found to be excellent. Therefore, it is judged that these materials can be used in various conditions as high functional hydrogel lens material.
In this study, lenses are fabricated using various nanomaterials as additives to a silicone polymer made with an optimum mixing ratio and short polymerization time. In addition, PVP is added at a ratio of 1 % to investigate the physical properties according to the degree of dispersion, and the compatibility with hydrophobic silicone and the possibility of application as a functional lens material are confirmed. The main materials are SIU as a silicone monomer, DMA, a hydrophilic copolymer, EGDMA as a crosslinking agent, and 2H2M as a photoinitiator. Holmium (III) oxide, Europium (III) oxide, aluminum oxide, and PVP are used. When Holmium (III) oxide and Europium (III) oxide are added based on the Ref sample, the characteristics of the lens tend to be similar overall, and the aluminum oxide shows a tendency slightly different from the previous two oxides. This material can be used as a silicone lens material with various nano oxides and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) acting as a dispersant.
