  • The trichogrammatidae ego parasite of the green rice leafhopper (GRLH), paracentrobia andoi, were investigated to know their parasitic activities after overwintering in the paddy banks and fallow fields, their seasonal variation and per cent parasitism in the paddy fields of Gyeongnam provincial O.R.D. at Jinju from 1982 to 1984. The parasitic activities of Paracentrobia andoi after overwintering in the Paddy banks in early Masch were high and tended to decrease remarkably since early April by moving to the fallow fields. The parasitic rate of paracentrobia andoi on GRLH was $21\%$ between late April and early May. the peak of egg laying period of GRLH. The per cent parasitism of the wasps in fallow fields was an average of $0\%$ in Gyeochang and Namji and $9.6-29.2\%$ in Namhae, Kimhae and Jinju. The parasitic activites of Paracentrobia andoi had three peakrs in paddy field, however, the highest peak was ovserved between mid- August and early October. The per cent egg parasitism of Paracentrobia andoi was an average of $16.5\%$ on second generation of Nepotettix cinctireps and $36.7\%$ on third generation of the leafhopper.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the bionomics of Curculio sikkimensis in Chonnam province from 1981 to 1983. Damage rates of the chestunt were $26.4\%$ in Damyang, $21.1\%$ in Gwangyang, and $12.9\%$ in Seungju. Adults occurred from the mid-July to the mid-September and showed peak from the mid-August to the early-September. Larvae escaped the chestnut from the early-October to the early-November. Overwintering larvae emerged $3.3\%$ in the first year, $22.78\%$ in the second year and continously overwintered $1.67\%$ in the third year. Larvae showed the highest distribution at $1.67\%$ of soil depth during the overwintering. Mortality of overwintering larvae and course of time showed the linearly correlation. Period of each stage was 5.9 days for egg and 17.17 days for pupa. Adult longevity was 9.10 days for female and 7.03 days for male.

  • This study investigated the distribution and overwintering of Phanuromyia ricaniae(Hemiptera: Platygastroidea), an egg parasitoid of Ricania sublimata(Hemiptera: Ricaniidea), in order to acquire basic information for biological control. P. ricaniae is distributed in some areas of Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongnam provinces. P. ricaniae is highly prevalent in the southwestern plains, with a tendency to expand to the northeastern area of Korea in line with the dispersal of R. sublimata. The parasitism of P. ricaniae was 1-8% in the field, and the highest in Suncheon, followed by Gurye and Gongju. P. ricaniae overwintered inside the eggs of R. sublimata from September to June of the next year, and transformed into adults in June. The rapid cold-hardiness of P. ricaniae was the highest in the egg state.

  • The temperature-dependent development of Metcalfa pruinosa overwintering eggs was investigated at ten constant temperatures (12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5, and $35{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, Relative Humidity 20~30%). All individuals collected before April 13, 2012 failed to develop into first instar larvae. In contrast, some individuals that were collected on April 11, 2013 successfully developed when reared under $20{\sim}32.5^{\circ}C$ temperature regimes. The developmental duration was shortest at $30^{\circ}C$ (13.3 days) and longest at $15^{\circ}C$ (49.6 days) in the fourth collected colony (April 26 2013). Developmental duration decreased with increasing temperature up to $30^{\circ}C$ and development was retarded at high-temperature regimes ($32.5^{\circ}C$). The lower developmental threshold was $10.1^{\circ}C$ and the thermal constant required to complete egg overwintering was 252DD. The Lactin 2 model provided the best statistical description of the relationship between temperature and the developmental rate of M. pruinosa overwintering eggs ($r^2=0.99$). The distribution of the developmental completion of overwintering eggs was well described by the 2-parameter Weibull function ($r^2=0.92$) based on the standardized development duration. However, the estimated cumulative 50% spring emergence dates of overwintering eggs were best predicted by poikilotherm rate model combined with the 2-parameter Weibull model (average difference of 1.7days between observed and estimated dates).

  • The life-cycle and seasonal abundance of Anaulaciulus koreanus koreanus was studied at Hwang-dong, Chonbuk Province, Korea from October 1990 to February 1992. The egg hatches in spring and the pupoid stage is passed through within the egg shell. The juvenile develops as far as stadium IX by the third year following the birth. Pairing and oviposition take place in the fourth year spring when females are at stadium XI. They seem to live one or two years more after egg-laying. Anamorphosis was observed in this species. Abundance of A. koreanus koreSanus increases from April to May when there appears thefirst peak. It fals gradualy thereafter and the species spends summer months underground from July to September. The second peak appears in October and the activity decreases again in November getting ready to overwinter. The first peak arises from a large number of individuals of 2 and 3 year old overwintered plus newly hatched spring juveniles, and the second from 1 to 3 years old wanderings. Inactivity observed in the species during summer and winter seasons appears to be a temporal due to the extreme temperatures.

  • Seasonal change in the reproductive pattern of the marine Cladoceran Podon polyphemoides, was studied using materials collected monthly during the period from January to December 1986 in Yongil Bay, Korea. The relative abundance of P. polyphemoides exceeded $10\%$ of total zooplankton in July. While the species remained as a minor components of the zooplankton community during the other periods of occurrence from June to December. Occurrence of sexual individuals of P. polyphemoides (males and gamogenetic females) in higher proportion in cold months ($30\%$ in November and $40\%$ in December) suggests that resting egg production of this species is largely confined to cold monthis in Korean waters as an overwintering strategy.

  • Studies were carried out to investigate effects of temperature and photoperiod on diapause induction and of juvenile hormone III and 20-hydroxyecdysone treatment on diapausing adults of the alder leaf beetle, Agelastica coerulea Baly(Chrγsomelidae: Coleoptera). Its life cycle and ovarian development in adults were also observed. The beetle had one year life cycle with egg, larval, pupal and adult periods being 7-10, 19-21, 14-15 days and about 10 months, r respectively. All adults showed a diapause syndrome when the larvae were reared at $20^{\circ}C$ or $25^{\circ}C$ in combination of photoperiods of 16L/8D, 12L/12D, or 8L/16D. Their ovarioles did not s show any development of vitellogenesis before or during diapause and even when exposed at $15^{\circ}C$ after overwintering. When diapausing adults were treated with JH III they resumed feeding and laid several eggs and broke diapause condition temporally. But diapausing adults treated with 20-hydroxyecdysone did not show any response.
