  • The strong turbulence characteristic of typhoon not only will significantly change flow field characteristics surrounding the large-scale wind turbine and aerodynamic force distribution on surface, but also may cause morphological evolution of coast dune and thereby form sand storms. A 5MW horizontal-axis wind turbine in a wind power plant of southeastern coastal areas in China was chosen to investigate the distribution law of additional loads caused by wind-sand coupling movement of coast dune at landing of strong typhoons. Firstly, a mesoscale Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mode was introduced in for high spatial resolution simulation of typhoon "Megi". Wind speed profile on the boundary layer of typhoon was gained through fitting based on nonlinear least squares and then it was integrated into the user-defined function (UDF) as an entry condition of small-scaled CFD numerical simulation. On this basis, a synchronous iterative modeling of wind field and sand particle combination was carried out by using a continuous phase and discrete phase. Influencing laws of typhoon and normal wind on moving characteristics of sand particles, equivalent pressure distribution mode of structural surface and characteristics of lift resistance coefficient were compared. Results demonstrated that: Compared with normal wind, mesoscale typhoon intensifies the 3D aerodynamic distribution mode on structural surface of wind turbine significantly. Different from wind loads, sand loads mainly impact on 30° ranges at two sides of the lower windward region on the tower. The ratio between sand loads and wind load reaches 3.937% and the maximum sand pressure coefficient is 0.09. The coupling impact effect of strong typhoon and large sand particles is more significant, in which the resistance coefficient of tower is increased by 9.80% to the maximum extent. The maximum resistance coefficient in typhoon field is 13.79% higher than that in the normal wind field.

  • Category management has been implemented to enhance competitiveness in the food distribution industry since 2000 in Korea. This study helps to understand why suppliers achieve better or worse performance than competitors in a category. The major objective of this article is to explore which category tactics are effective to have influence on category performance when suppliers as a category captain implement category management with variety enhancer categories like shampoo, toothpaste, and detergent. The Nielsen data were analyzed using regression and Chow test. The empirical results that were varied upon the store type and market position found out which specific actions on product assortments, pricing, shelving, and product replenishment can increase category sales. Specifically, in the case of market leader in large supermarket, the significant indicators of category sales with respect to category tactics are the out-of-stock rate, the variance across brand shares, the forward inventory, and the days supply of a product. However, in the case of follower in large supermarket, the significant indicators of category sales are the variance across brand shares, the forward inventory, and the days supply of a product. On the other hand, in the case of small supermarket, the significant factors on category sales for both market leader and follower are the retail distribution rate, the variance across brand shares, the forward inventory, and the days supply of a product category. In sum, regardless of the store type and market position, dominant brands in a category, the forward inventory, and short days supply of a product improved performance in all categories. Critical difference is that the out-of-stock rate acted as a key ingredient for the market leader between large and small supermarket and the retail distribution rate for the follower between large and small supermarket. This article presents some theoretical and managerial implications of the empirical results and finalizes the paper by addressing limitations and future research directions.

  • As interests in the air pollution increases, many kinds of researches are underway on the reduction of air pollutants. The removal of nitrogen oxides from the emission gas of diesel vehicles using urea solution has shown a great effect. The quality of urea solution is strictly defined by domestic law, but the increase of impurities in urea solution reduces the effect of reducing nitrogen oxides. Therefore, in this study, the change of physical properties of urea solution was analyzed after heating the urea solution for a certain temperature and time. Also, the changes of physical properties of urea solution were analyzed according to kinds of storage container and temperature for storing the urea solution. After heating the urea solution for a certain period of time, the biuret content in urea solution increased and the content of urea decreased. As the urea content decreased, both density and refractive index decreased. In the storage stability test carried out at a constant temperature with iron and PET containers, no change in physical properties was observed.

  • To elucidate the exposure of pesticide in agricultural environment and to investigate distribution of pesticide in paddy fields. This experiment was carried out to clarify pesticide distribution in paddy fields applied with different formulations and growing stages. Initial dissipation rate of applied butachlor EW and oxadiazon EC before rice planting were more than 90% within 3 days in paddy fields. The distribution of a.i. in the pesticide formulations tested depended upon the elapsed time at each growing stage of rice plant after application. Most of pesticides applied within 15 days after transplanting of rice seedlings, more than 95%, were located in the surface water and soil regardless of pesticides; butachlor, thiobencarb and molinate GR. The distribution of iprobenfos GR, tricyclazole WP and phenthoate EC, after application 2 hours in middle growing stage (46 days after rice planting) were shown as 16.1, 48.9 and 38.9% in surface water, 83.6, 15.4 and 10.7% in soil, and 0.3, 35.7 and 50.4% in rice plants of paddy fields, respectively. Also tricyclazole WP and phenthoate EC, after application 2 hours in the late rice growing stage (90 days after rice planting) were distributed to 7.8 and 9.8% in surface water, and 21.7 and 5.1% in soil, and 70.5 and 85.1% in rice plants of paddy fields, respectively.

  • Statistical control charts are useful tools to monitor and control the manufacturing processes and are widely used in most Korean industries. Many Korean companies, however, do not always obtain desired results from the traditional control charts by Shewhart such as the $\bar{X}$-chart, $\bar{X}$-chart, $\bar{X}$-chart, etc. This is partly because the quality charterstics of the process are not distributed normally but are skewed due to the intermittent production, small lot size, etc. In Shewhart $\bar{X}$-chart. which is the most widely used one in Kora, such skewed distributions make the plots to be inclined below or above the central line or outside the control limits although no assignable causes can be found. To overcome such shortcomings in nonnormally distributed processes, a distribution-free type of confidence interval can be used, which should be based on order statistics. This thesis is concerned with the design of control chart based on a sample median which is easy to use in practical situation and therefore properties for nonnormal distributions may be easily analyzed. Control limits and central lines are given for the more famous nonnormal distributions, such as Gamma, Beta, Lognormal, Weibull, Pareto, Truncated-normal distributions. Robustness of the proposed median control chart is compared with that of the $\bar{X}$-chart; the former tends to be superior to the latter as the probability distribution of the process becomes more skewed. The average run length to detect the assignable cause is also compared when the process has a Normal or a Gamma distribution for which the properties of X are easy to verify, the proposed chart is slightly worse than the $\bar{X}$-chart for the normally distributed product but much better for Gamma-distributed products. Average Run Lengths of the other distributions are also computed. To use the proposed control chart, the probability distribution of the process should be known or estimated. If it is not possible, the results of comparison of the robustness force us to use the proposed median control chart based oh a normal distribution. To estimate the distribution of the process, Sturge's formula is used to graph the histogram and the method of probability plotting, $\chi$$^2$-goodness of fit test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, are discussed with real case examples. A comparison of the proposed median chart and the $\bar{X}$ chart was also performed with these examples and the median chart turned out to be superior to the $\bar{X}$-chart.

  • We surveyed the distribution of soil layers on Dongdo and Seodo of Dokdo and measured the physical properties of the soils. To investigate the distribution of soil layers, the soil depth was measured directly in accessible locations, and visual observations of inaccessible locations were carried out using drones and boats. Soil depths ranged from 3 to 50 cm, and most soil layers had depths of 10~20 cm. Based on these results, a map of the soil layer was drawn using 5 cm intervals for soil depth. To analyze the soil characteristics of Dokdo, soil samples were collected from 13 locations on Dongdo and 13 locations on Seodo, in consideration of various geological settings. According to the results of grain size distribution tests, sand contents were >75%, and soil from Seodo contained more gravel-sized particles than that from Dongdo. Using the unified soil classification system (USCS) and textural classification chart of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), most of the soil samples from Dokdo are classified as sand, and some are classified as loamy or clayey sand. In addition, well-graded loamy or clayey sands are more common in Dongdo, and poorly graded sands with gravel are more common in Seodo. These results are expected to be important for studying soil characteristics on Dokdo.

  • Warships widely spread numerous chaffs using a blast, which form chaff clouds that create false radar cross-sections to deceive enemy radars. In this study, we established a numerical framework based on a one-way coupling of computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method to simulate the spatiotemporal distribution of chaff clouds for warships in the air. Using the framework, we investigated the effects of wind, initial chaff cartridge angle, and blast pressure on the distribution of chaff clouds. We observed three phases for the chaff cloud diffusion: radial diffusion by the explosion, omnidirectional diffusion by turbulence and collision, and gravity-induced diffusion by the difference in the fall speed. The wind moved the average position of the chaff clouds, and the diffusion due to drag force did not occur. The direction of radial diffusion by the explosion depended on the initial angle of the cartridge, and a more vertical angle led to a wider distribution of the chaffs. As the blast pressure increased, the chaff clouds spread out more widely, but the distribution difference in the direction of gravity was not significant.

  • Large-scale discount stores, that were in charge of leading role up to recently, reach the limit of growth because of increasing competition, saturation of domestic market, and shortened product life-cycle. As per the limit of domestic market, large-scale discount stores are trying to various global market entry strategy and global marketing strategy like new store entry, takeover of foreign distribution chain, and global sourcing strategy. In the past, global companies of advanced country have been entering to Asian market with leading position. But, as per the rapid growth of Asian economy in the late 1980's, East Asian distribution companies like Japanese company were trying to enter the Asian market. In Asian market, starting with China, that was relatively not advanced in comparison with economic development, not only western advanced countries but also East Asian countries like Japan and Korea are entering actively for overcome their limitations of domestic market. Many of distribution companies experienced success and failure for various reason already. Korean large-scale discount stores are relatively late starters in Asian market. So, this paper purposed to review global market entry strategy of Japanese large-scale discount stores, and find out strategic implications for successful global market entry strategy of Korean large-scale discount stores.
