In this paper, we study the response of several anisotropic systems to buried transient line loads. The problem is mathematically formulated based on the equations of motion in the constitutive relations. The load is in form of a normal stress acting with arbitrary axis on the plane of monoclinic symmetry. Plane wave equation is coupled with vertical shear wave, longitudinal wave and horizontal shear wave. We first considered the equation of motion in reference coordinate system, where the line load is coincident with symmetry axis of the orthotrioic material. Then the equation of motion is transformed with respect to general coordiante system with azimuthal angle by using transformation tensor. The load is first described as a body force in the equations of the motion for the infinite media and then it is mathematically characterized. Subsequently the results for semi-infinite spaces is also obtained by using superposition of the infinite medium solution together with a scattered solution from the free surface. Consequently explicit solutions for the displacements are obtained by using Cargniard-DeHoop contour. Numerical results which are drawn from concrete examples of orthotropic material belonging to monoclinic symmetry are demonstrated.
A multi-layered orthotropic material with a center crack is subjected to an anti-plane shear loading. The problem is formulated as a mixed boundary value problem by using the Fourier integral transform method. This gives a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The integral equation is solved numerically and anti-plane shear stress intensity factors are analyzed in terms of the material orthotropy for each layer, number of layers, crack length to layer thickness and the order of the loading polynomial. Also, the case of monolithic and hybrid composites are investigated in terms of the local fiber volume fraction and the global fiber volume fraction.

In order to increase the critical speed of rotating disks of which functional material could not be changed such as in optical and magnetic data storage disks, a new disk with a rim reinforced by composite material is proposed and its concept is verified by numerical analysis. Stress distributions are found for the rotating disk composed of two annular disks of which materials are isotropic inside and orthotropic outside. Dynamic equation is formulated in order to calculate the natural frequency and critical speed. For the solution of lateral vibration, a rotational symmertry condition is applied along circumferential direction and a finite element interpolation with Hermite polynomial is performed along the radial direction to obtain a proper solution. According to the results, reinforcing a disk at rim makes critical speeds drastically increased, and induces a buckling phenomenon in mode (0,0) which occurs over the lowest critical speed.

The use of advanced composite materials in many engineering structures has steadily increased during the last decade. Advanced composite materials allow the design engineer to tailor the directional stiffness and the strength of materials as required for the structures. Design variables to the design engineer include multiple material systems. ply orientation, ply thickness, stacking sequence and boundary conditions, in addition to overall structural design parameters. Since the vibration and impact strength of composite cylindrical shell is an important consideration for composite structures design, the reliable prediction method and design methodology should be required. In this study, the optimum design of composite cylindrical shell for maximum natural frequency, buckling strength and impact strength are developed by analytic and numerical method. The effect of parameters such as the various composite material orthotropic properties (CFRP, GFRP, KFRP, Al-CFRP hybrid), the stacking sequences, the shell thickness, and the boundary conditions on structural characteristics are studied extensively.

This study deals with the finite element analysis of the monotonic behavior of reinforced concrete beams and beam-column joint subassemblages. It is assumed that the behavior of these members can be discribed by a plane stress field. Concrete and reinforcing steel are represented by separate material models which are combined together with a model of the interaction between reinforcing bar and concrete through bond-slip to discribe the behavior of the composite reinforced concrete material. To discribe the concrete behavior, a nonlinear orthotropic model is adopted and the crack is discribed by a system of orthogonal cracks, which are rotating as the principal strain directions are changed. A smeared finite element model based on the fracture mechanics principles are used to overcome the numerical defect according to the finite element mesh size. Finally, correlation studies between analytical and experimental results and several parameter studies are conducted with the objective to estabilish the validity of the proposed model and identify the significance of various effects on the local and global response of reinforced concrete members.
In this paper, theoretical approach with applications of the periodic wave solutions in an elastic material is applied by study the effect of initial stress, and rotation, on the radial displacement and the corresponding stresses in non-homogeneous orthotropic material. An Analytical solution for the elastodynamic equation has obtained concerning the component of displacement. The variations of stresses and displacements have shown graphically. Comparisons with previously published results in the absence of initial stress, rotation and non-homogeneity have made. Finally, numerical results have given and illustrated graphically for each case considered.
A semi-infinite interfacial crack propagated with constant velocity in two bonded anisotropic strip under out-of-plane clamped displacements is analyzed. The asymptotic stress and displacement fields near the crack tip are obtained, where the results get more general expressions applicable not only to isotropic/orthotropic materials but also to the extent of the anisotropic material having one plane of elastic symmetry for the interfacial crack. The dynamic stress intensity factor is obtained as a closed form, which is decreased as the velocity of crack propagation increases. The critical velocity where the stress intensity factor comes to zero is obtained, which agrees with the lower value between the critical values of parallel crack merged in the material 1 and 2 adjacent to the interface. The dynamic energy release rate is also obtained as a form related to the stress intensity factor.

Composite materials also known as fiber reinforced plastics have been developed and used in many engineering applications due to their outstanding mechanical properties. Laminated plates as structural components that are made of in composite material are widely used. Therefore, nonlinear response of laminated composite plates modeled with finite elements and excited by stochastic loading is studied. The classical laminated plate theory is used to account for the variation of strains through the thickness for modeling laminated thin plates. Approximate nonlinear random vibration analysis is performed using the method of equivalent linearization to account for material non-linearity.

For each construction material used, there is certain theoretical limit in sizes. For tall building construction, the reduction in slab weight is the first step to take in order to break such size limits. In this paper, the feasibility of such objective is proven and given by numerical analysis result. For a typical building slab, both concrete and advanced composite sandwich panels are considered. The concrete slab is treated as a special orthotropic plate to obtain more accurate result. For each panel, the deflection under the dead and live loads is compared, since both tensile and compressive strengths of the composites are far more higher than those of concrete. All types of sandwich panels considered, except one case, have weights less than one tenth of that of reinforced concrete slab, with deflections less than that of the concrete slab. The cost analysis result and manufacturing methods will be reported later.
This paper presents a numerical model for simulating the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls subject to cyclic loadings. The material behavior of cracked concrete is described by an orthotropic constitutive relation with tension-stiffening and compression softening effects defining equivalent uniaxial stress-strain relation in the axes of orthotropy. Especially in making analytical predictions for inelastic behaviors of RC walls under reversed cyclic loading, some influencing factors inducing the material nonlinearities have been considered. A simple hysteretic stress-strain relation of concrete, which crosses the tension-compression region, is defined. Modification of the hysteretic stress-strain relation of steel is also introduced to reflect a pinching effect depending on the shear span ratio and to represent an average stress distribution in a cracked RC element, respectively. To assess the applicability of the constitutive model for RC element, analytical results are compared with idealized shear panel and shear wall test results under monotonic and cyclic shear loadings.
