The forged iron axe found in the No. 2 wood-framed tomb (the middle 3rd century) of Hwangseongdong, Gyeongju is rectangular on the plane level. It shows an obtuse angle in the edge part, while the joint part has the both sides folded up and shows the traces of wood. Under the reflected light, the Iron axe shines in metal luster, which is bright light gray or light creamy colors. The result of x-ray diffraction analysis shows that the axe consists of magnetite and geothite, which can explain why the composition and structure of the original ore has been kept intact. The microtexture of the axe has the irregular network of ferrite and pearlite, and tile cementite of tiny amount in the ferrite background. The overall treatment of the texture seems to be thermal with a high ratio of carbon. There are fine-grained magnetite, wolframite, quartz, calcite, mica, hornblende and pyroxene inside the axe. Those must be the impurities that they failed to remove in the refining process. The normal ferrite is composed of pure iron whose $Fe_2O_3$ proportion is from 99.16 to $99.84\;wt.\%$. Other than them, the ferrite parts usually contain $Al_2O_3\;and\;SiO_2$. The irregular network of pearlite also contains Impurities including $Al_2O_3\;and\;SiO_2$ and shows highly diverse patterns of carbon content. It's because the axe was carburized after the material was made to resemble pure iron. The decarbonization work didn't go well along the process marks. It's estimated that the original ore was bloom produced in low-temperature reduction and formed around in $727^{\circ}C$, which is eutetic temperature.
Purpose: In surgical treatment of the medial orbital wall fractures, restoring the original position of the orbital wall is difficult in some cases. Under such condition, the orbital wall is often reconstructed with synthetic material, without bony reduction, which is considered to be the conventional reconstruction. The purpose of this study is to compare the outcomes of anatomical reconstruction, which restores the bony wall to the anatomical position, from that of the conventional reduction in the isolated medial orbital wall fractures. Methods: Thirty patients, who underwent reconstruction surgery for the isolated medial orbital wall fractures from March 2007 to August 2011, were reviewed retrospectively. The surgical outcomes of two groups, the conventional reconstruction group (15 patients) and the anatomical reconstruction group (15 patients), were studied in 2 measurements, a one day before and 6 months after the surgery. The changes of orbital volume were calculated by the images from a computed tomography scan and enophthalmos was measured by a Hertel exophthalmometer. Results: The orbital volume ratio was decreased by an average of 1.05% in the conventional reconstruction group, while in the anatomical reconstruction group, the ratio decreased by 5.90% (p<0.05). The changes in the Hertel scale were 0.20 mm in the conventional reconstruction group, and 0.70 mm in the anatomical reconstruction group. However, the difference in the Hertel scale was statistically insignificant (p>0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, the anatomical reconstruction technique of the isolated medial orbital wall fracture results in a better outcome than that of the conventional reconstruction, in terms of restoring of the original orbital volume and anatomic position. Thus, it can be considered as a useful method for the isolated medial orbital wall fractures.
The purpose of this study is to examine misnomers about King Heungdeok's "Prohibition of Clothing" by comparing the writings of Jeongdukbon [正德本] and Juzabon [鑄字本], which were different versions of the original texts of "Samguksagi [三國史記]", with 11 related books written between 1948 and 2012. In addition, this study is reconsidered the terms about several clothes as well as the values of fabrics. The study has come up with the following conclusions. 1. We suggested the correction about a misnomer in the 11 books and the misnomers for fabric items appeared most frequently. The records of Jeongdukbon about some of the items were different from ones of Juzabon, especially regarding noble woman's sash were written according to the record of Juzabon in most of the related books. However, when the commonplace woman's sash was taken into consideration, we could suppose that the record of Jeongdukbon was more reliable. 2. We examined the terms for Yodae [腰帶] and Yoban. It can be inferred from the original texts that the Yodae were different in material and function compared to the Dae [帶]. In other words, the wearing position of male's metal Yodae was the waist, whereas the females wore their Dae made of fabrics on their chest. An example of this can be seen from the female clay images of Tomb Yonggang-dong [龍江洞]. Moreover, female's Yo and Ban were distinct items on the basis of documents. For this reason, we suggested that Yodae and Yoban should be separated and written in books. 3. We suggested that Ju [紬, silk tabby] might be valuable according to an result of analysis about the value of recorded fabrics. Besides, Po [布, hempcloth] presumably were used as higher quality fabric than Myeonju [綿紬, silk tabby] on some items because Po was graded on the density by each class.

The ultimate purpose of archival endeavors is to hand down to the next generations a reliable, trustworthy, and complete testimony of societal actions so that they can constitute sources of, and foundations for, future decision making. However, historical science searches for the truth in the historical facts, explains the cause and origin of the matters and reflects on th knowledge about the why and how the events happened. And history is firmly rooted on the philosophy. The goal of historian is analysing the nature of meaning of past in the society and tracing up the change and process of the transition. Archival science means historical source studies and other related disciplines. On the other hand archival management is the principle of respect for original order and the importance of original forms and conditions. Thus the relations between archival science and archives management are not one-sided but mutual. Archival science and historical studies, archivists and historians need to link more closely in order to hand down the contemporary memorial, the common memorial of mankind to the future.
The aim of this study was to develop Jiangxi Nuo masks using 3D digital fashion design technology and suggest various ways to utilize traditional culture based on the characteristics of Nuo masks, a traditional Chinese artifact of intangible cultural significance. The researchers conducted a literature review to gather information about Nuo culture and masks that could represent Jiangxi. Features of the masks were analyzed and classified. The result are as follows. First, the symbolic characteristics of Jiangxi's Nuo masks can be divided into those based on their origin and history, the user's social status, and the notions of primitive beliefs of the chosen people, such as naturism and totemism. Second, Nuo masks' splendid decorations convey meanings such as luck, the bixie, longevity, wealth, and peace in the family. Third, playfulness in mask-making is about dismantling the original form of the mask, re-creating it through application. Fourth, the masks express primitiveness mostly by conserving the wood's original color or material. The initial masks carved to represent images of figures aptly deliver the primitive forms and images of Nuo culture. In this study, Nuo masks were developed and produced using the 3D digital technology CLO 3D by adopting the expressive characteristics and applying design methods such as asymmetricity, exaggeration, and modification. The results of this study demonstrate the possibility of creating diverse as well as economical designs through the reduction of production.
Conservation treatment was done for the pottery-stand of Kaya period which was to be exhibited in celebration of the opening of Kimhae National Museum and for the jar of Chinese celadon which was to be exhibited in Korea National Museum's special exhibition "Formation of Ancient States". Through the examinations by naked eyes and under the microscope, condition before treatment, patterns and manufacturing techniques of the objects were observed. According to these examinations, conservation treatments, suitable for each object was finished. As the pottery-stand was damaged severely, the epoxy resin was pasted directly on the broken surface of the pottery to restore the original shape and pattern, color and feeling similar to original state were given to the restored area. Although same restoration material was applied on the celadon, it was not pasted directly on the broken surface of the celadon so that the restored area could be dismantled, and color and feeling were also treated somewhat differently.
Background: Safety data sheets (SDSs) are hazard communication materials that accompany chemicals/hazardous products in the workplace. Many SDSs contain dense, technical text, which places considerable comprehension demands on workers, especially those with lower literacy skills. The goal of this study was to assess SDSs for readability, comprehensibility, and suitability (i.e., fit to the target audience). Methods: The Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) tool assessed SDSs for suitability and readability. We then amended the SAM tool to further assess SDSs for comprehensibility factors. Both the original and amended SAM tool were used to score 45 randomly selected SDSs for content, literacy demand, graphics, and layout/typography. Results: SDSs performed poorly in terms of readability, suitability, and comprehensibility. The mean readability scores were Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (9.6), Gunning Fog index (11.0), Coleman-Liau index (13.7), and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook index (10.7), all above the recommended reading level. The original SAM graded SDSs as "not suitable" for suitability and readability. When the amended SAM was used, the mean total SAM score increased, but the SDSs were still considered "not suitable" when adding comprehensibility considerations. The amended SAM tool better identified content-related issues specific to SDSs that make it difficult for a reader to understand the material. Conclusions: In terms of readability, comprehensibility, and suitability, SDSs perform poorly in their primary role as a hazard communication tool, therefore, putting workers at risk. The amended SAM tool could be used when writing SDSs to ensure that the information is more easily understandable for all audiences.
Superelastic shape memory alloys (SMAs) are metallic materials that can automatically recover to their original condition without heat treatment only after the removal of the applied load. These smart materials have been wildly applied instead of steel materials to the place where large deformation is likely to concentrate. In spite of many advantages, superelastic SMA materials have been limited to use in the construction filed because there is lack of effort and research involved with the development of the material model, which is required to reproduce the behavior of superelastic SMA materials. Therefore, constitutive material models as well as algorithm codes are mainly treated in this study for the purpose of simulating their hysteretic behavior through numerical analyses. The simulated curves are compared and calibrated to the experimental test results with an aim to verify the adequacy of material modeling. Furthermore, structural analyses incorporating the material property of the superelastic SMAs are conducted on simple and cantilever beam models. It can be shown that constitutive material models presented herein are adequate to reliably predict the behavior of superelastic SMA materials under cyclic loadings.

However, what does it mean that many of civilized westerners have come to dislike the manner of scientific pursuit and strict rationality which made them wealthy materially\ulcorner It means that they have felt their ideologies which is based on the Christian culture, has met an end or at least they have started to get interested in the Eastern ideology, 'Buddhism'. Particularly, if we agree that industrial design is a field of basis on the stringent rationality, and is a field of applied science on the basis of technology and production, it surely must have rather been influenced by Christian culture than Buddhism. But regardless of material richness by Christian culture, some Western intellectuals'secession from christianity means that their pursuit of material civilization doesn't help much in chasing after human original happiness. Instead, they are charmed by the fact that their mental illness problem, which is the result of the incessant pursuit of materialism, can be salved more 'scientifically'rather by Buddhism than Christianity. Compared with the westerners'spiritual unhappiness by the strong pursuit of material, Buddhism lowers their passion for material and help to lead their lives happily with least'pursuit of materialism. In this sense, I insist that we need to study'Design'from a viewpoint of Buddhist idea.
This study aims to characterize the material of the finishing materials used in the No.1 stone chamber tomb of the Baekje-era tumuli in Songjeri, Naju with mineralogical, chemical, and physical analyses. The finishing material is a mixture of white lumps and fragments, presumed to be shells, that remain on the surface and between the gaps of the stone walls inside the tomb. The analysis results revealed that the main constituent mineral of the finishing material is calcite. Infrared spectroscopy showed peaks due to calcium carbonate, and thermal reaction decarbonation in the 700~800℃ range, high calcium content, and loss on ignition were confirmed. Therefore, the main material of the finishing materials was determined to be lime, and since no aggregates such as sand or gravel were found, it was identified as lime paste. The shell fragments mixed into the lime paste appear dark blue or grayish-white in color, with no original shape remaining. The surface has a layered structure, and microscopic observations revealed prismatic layers with a columnar structure and nacreous layers with a consistent orientation, suggesting that the shells are from bivalve mollusks. Additionally, X-ray imaging of the shell fragments showed holes and tunnels caused by boring marine organisms both on the surface and inside, and radiocarbon dating results confirmed that the dating of the shells was consistent with the construction period of the tomb. It is concluded that the finishing material used in Tomb No. 1 in Songje-ri, Naju, was lime paste mixed with shell fragments, and the lime was made using the shells of bivalve mollusks as the raw material.
