Cubic mesocrystal $CeO_2$ was synthesized via a hydrothermal method with glutamic acid ($C_5H_9NO_4$) as a template. The XRD pattern of a calcined sample shows the face-centered cubic fluorite structure of ceria. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern revealed that the submicron cubic mesocrystals were composed of many small crystals attached to each other with the same orientation. The UV-visible adsorption spectrum exhibited the red-shift phenomenon of mesocrystal $CeO_2$ compared to commercial $CeO_2$ particles; thus, the prepared materials show tremendous potential to degrade organic dyes under visible light illumination. With a concentration of a rhodamine B solution of 20 mg/L and a catalyst amount of 0.1 g/L, the reaction showed higher photocatalytic performance following irradiation with a xenon lamp (${\geq}380nm$). The decoloring rate can exceed 100% after 300 min.
The hydrogen production using immobilized cellsl was conducted using fruit wastewaters at various culture conditions. Three kinds of fruit wastewaters, melon, watermelon and pear were used. Sodium alginate was used as immobilization material. Among them, concentration of reducing sugar which was one of the main components in fruit was the highest at watermelon wastewater, and also hydrogen production was the highest as 2319.2 mL/L in it. Although hydrogen production was not much changed according to sodium alginate concentration, its production was the most at 3%(w/v). As bead size as small, hydrogen production was higher. With inspection of interior, it confirmed that the cell grew well in bead. But the addition of amino acids using as agent for metabolite production had almost no affected on hydrogen productivity. The effective range of $FeSO_4$ addition on hydrogen production were up to 1.2 g/L, and above the concentration, it inhibited the productivity. Organic acids produced during watermelon fermentation were mainly lactic acid, butyric acid, abd acetic acid; and a little of propionic acid.

To date, chemical managements of plant bacterial diseases are complicated by limitations on use of antibiotics in agriculture, antibiotic resistance development, and limited efficacy of alternative control agents. In this study, thus, we performed screening of eco-friendly farming material (notice no. 2-4-064) containing tannic acid as new antibacterial-activity against 7 plant bacterial pathogens: Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (Pcc), Ralstonia solanacearum (Rs), Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli (Aac), Xanthomonas cirti pv. citri (Xcc), Erwinia pyrifoliae (Ep), Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis (Cmm), and Streptomyces scabies (Sc), Initial screening of antibacterial effects of eco-friendly farming material was performed using the paper disk diffusion method and co-cultivation in broth culture. Tannic acid based eco-friendly farming material showed inhibitory effect against Pcc, Rs, Aac, Xcc, Cmm, and Ss, whereas it did not show inhibition zone against Ep. However, when it tested by co-cultivation in broth culture, it showed strong inhibition effect against all pathogens that declined growth curve compared to bacterial pathogen only. Interestingly, when we observed morphological changes on those pathogens by SEM, cell morphologies of 7 pathogens were slightly changed that seem to be malfunction in their cell envelope.

We have investigated the dielectric and electrical characteristics of palrnitic acid(PA), stearic acid(SA) and arachidic acid(AA) Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films because these fatty acid systems have a same hydrophilic group and a different hydrophobic one(alky1 chain lqngth). The dielectric characteristics such as the capacitance-frequency(C-F) characteristics and the dielectric dispersion and absorption characteristics of PA, SA and AA through-plane were measured. In the result, the relative dielectric constants of PA, SA and AA LB films were about 3.0-4.6, 2.7-4.1 and 2.4-3.8, respectively. The relative dielectric constants were decreased in proportion to the chain length of alkyl group. Also, the dielectric dispersion and absorption of each fatty acid LB films have arisen from the dipole polarization in the range of $10^4~10^5[Hz]. And, the conductivity of PA, SA and AA LB films obtained from I-V characteristics were about $9{\times}10^{-14}, 3{\times}10^{-l4} and 5{\times}10^{-15}[S/cm], respectively. These results have shown the insulating materials and could control the conductivity by changing the length of alkyl group. Also, we have confirmed that the barrier height of fatty acid systems were about 1.32-1.40[eV] and the dielectric constant were about 3.0-4.2. These values were almost the same ones obtained from dielectric characteristics.

This study was carried out to investigate the food components of the fruit, cladodes, and flowers of freezedried Cheonnyuncho harvested from Yeosu, Jeonnam in Korea. The major components of freeze-dried Cheonnyuncho in proximate composition were carbohydrates and crude ash. Ca, K, and Mg were the predominant minerals in Cheonnyuncho. Calcium content was higher in the fruit and cladodes than in the flowers. Two major amino acids, glutamic acid and aspartic acid, made up over 25% of the total amino acids in Cheonnyuncho. Palmitic acid and stearic acid were most abundant out of all the saturated fatty acids in Cheonnyuncho. The saturated fatty acid content of the fruit was higher than that of the flowers and cladodes. The major unsaturated fatty acid of Cheonnyuncho was oleic acid. The cladodes contained unusually high amounts of linoleic acid compared to the fruit and flowers. The major free sugar in the fruit was sucrose, whereas that of the cladodes and flowers was fructose. The total free sugar content was the highest in fruit, followed by cladodes. The most abundant organic acid in the fruits and cladodes was malic acid, while that of the flowers was citric acid. Vitamin A concentration was highest in the flowers whereas vitamin C concentration was highest in the fruit.
Globally, the demand for electric vehicles has surged due to greenhouse gas regulations related to climate change, leading to an increase in the production of used batteries as a consequence of the battery life issue. This study aims to selectively leach and recover valuable metal lithium from the cathode material of spent LFP (LiFePO4) batteries among lithium-ion batteries. Generally, the use of inorganic acids results in the emission of toxic gases or the generation of large quantities of wastewater, causing environmental issues. To address this, research is being conducted to leach lithium using organic acids and other leaching agents. In this study, selective leaching was performed using the organic acid methane sulfonic acid (MSA, CH3SO3H). Experiments were conducted to determine the optimal conditions for selectively leaching lithium by varying the MSA concentration, pulp density, and hydrogen peroxide dosage. The results of this study showed that lithium was leached at approximately 100%, while iron and phosphorus components were leached at about 1%, verifying the leaching efficiency and the leaching rates of the main components under different variables.

Biodiesel is estimated to be the best recycling energy source as an alternative fuel for transportation vehicles which represents the biggest share of greenhouse effect gas exhausts. Thus, in order to widely expand use of biodiesel and to enhancement its reliability, studies on quality improvement of biodiesel is needed. In this study, we have produced biodiesel(BD100, BD20) through esterification reaction using raw material of waste frying oil and analyzed compatibility with 24 items of quality criteria. As waste frying oil has high contents of unsaturated fatty acid such as Oleic acid, Linoleic acid and Linolenic acid, it is confirmed that there is no problem in using the same as a raw material of biodiesel. The result of analyzing the quality criteria items of biodiesel showed that it satisfied all the quality criteria except the oxidation stability of BD100, which was 2 hours, fatty acid methyl ester of BD20, which was 18.6w% and the filter plugging point, which was $-5^{\circ}C$. We believe that it will contribute to improved utilization of waste resources as alternative energy if studies on technology to improve quality of some items are provided.

Melt grafting of citraconic acid (CCA) onto an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM) with various peroxide initiators was performed using a Haake Rheocorder. Finding the optimum running condition and concentration is critical for effective grafting and performance of grafted material. Therefore, this study focused on the effects of mixing (reaction) condition and monomer/initiator dosages on the grafting degree, grafting efficiency and crosslinking degree (gel content), melt flow index and mechanical properties of CCA-g-EPDM. As the grafting degree/crosslinking degrees increased, the tensile strength increased significantly, but elongation at break and melt flow index decreased. The initiator 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butyl peroxy)-hexane (T-101) appeared to meet for the best grafting(2.31%). The grafting degree increased markedly with increasing monomer CCA/initiator T-101 contents. The grafting degree also increased with increasing mixing temperature/time, and then leveled off or decreased/increased a little. The optimum monomer/initiator dosages and reaction temperature/time were found to be about 5/0.05 wt% and $180^{\circ}C$/15min, respectively.
Poly(hydroxamic acid) resin beads were prepared and complexed with various metal ions. We used IR spectroscopy to investigate the structure of metal complex. It proved that the products formed by introduction of metal ions gave stable and colored complex. It was found that the resin bead as synthesized would be a good column packing material for continuous extraction. Energy dispersive spectroscopy was use to study the distribution of metal ions in the resin matrix. It could be tentatively concluded that adsorption and diffusion of metal ions in the chelating resins mainly depended on the loading of the resin matrix which indicated interacting sites with metal ions.
Optically active carboxylic acid, D-(-)-$\beta$-hydroxyisobutyric acid {(D)-(-)-HIBA} is a useful chiral starting material for the preparation of enantiomerically pure bioactive compounds which have a chiral methyl carbon center in the molecule such as captopril, $\alpha$-tocopherol, erythromycin A, muscone and so on. (S)-3-Acetoxy-2-methylpropanol can be used as the precursor of (D)-(-)-HIBA, that is, chemical oxidation of the hydroxyl group and subsequent hydrolysis of acyl group in (S)-3-acetoxy-2-methylpropanol affords D-(-)-$\beta$-hydroxyisobutyric acid. (S)-3-Acetoxy-2-methyl-propanol was prepared by lipase-catalyzed asymmetric hydrolysis. In the enzymatic hydrolysis system, lipase AY (Candida rugosa) provided the expected (S)-3-acetoxy-2-methylpropanol in 60% e.e. of the enantiomeric purity under the phosphate buffer and organic co-solvent system.
