  • Objectives South Korea's air quality standards are insufficient in terms of establishing a procedure for their management. The current system lacks a proper decision-making process and prior evidence is not considered. The purpose of this study is to propose a measure for establishing atmospheric environmental standards in South Korea that will take into consideration the health of its residents. Methods In this paper, the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) of the US was examined in order to suggest ways, which consider health effects, to establish air quality standards in South Korea. Up-to-date research on the health effects of air pollution was then reviewed, and tools were proposed to utilize the key results. This was done in an effort to ensure the reliability of the standards with regard to public health. Results This study showed that scientific research on the health effects of air pollution and the methodology used in the research have contributed significantly to establishing air quality standards. However, as the standards are legally binding, the procedure should take into account the effects on other sectors. Realistically speaking, it is impossible to establish standards that protect an entire population from air pollution. Instead, it is necessary to find a balance between what should be done and what can be done. Conclusions Therefore, establishing air quality standards should be done as part of an evidence-based policy that identifies the health effects of air pollution and takes into consideration political, economic, and social contexts.

  • Source code quality is very Important that software embedded into product is difficult to change. In order to improve source code quality, it should be considered the quality of analysis and design models as well as the quality of source code. In this paper, we suggest 'Practice Pattern' as one of practical techniques to improve embedded software source code quality. Practice pattern is a procedural pattern to guide modeling and coding activities in software development phases. We believe that applying our pattern provides the improvement of optimum performance, modularization, and portability for embedded software source code.

  • There is a need for research to identify the integrated, rather than fragmented, factors that determine users' acceptance of Internet shopping. Using the newly revised technology acceptance model (TAM) as a theoretical framework, this study investigates the effect of a set of information systems quality (information quality and system quality) and trust on intention to use Internet showing through perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Using structural equation modeling, the results strongly support the utilization of TAM in predicting users' intention to use Internet shopping, and demonstrates the effects of critical external variables on behavior intention through perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Systems quality such as response time, accessibility, and usability has significant effects on perceived ease of use of Internet shopping. Futhermore, trust has also a significant effect on perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, intention to use Internet shopping, and actual usage of Internet shopping. Based on these results, this study suggests managerial implications of new Internet shopping strategies, focusing on the integration of information systems quality and trust in order to achieve sustainable competitive advantage in Internet shopping.

  • In order to determine the optimal water intake point, the distribution of blue-Green algae and water quality factors in relation to the depth of the Mulgum and Maeri stations located downstream of the Nakdong River were investigated from Jun. 2015 to Sep. 2016. When the current surface water intake system was converted to the deep water intake system, Chl-a concentration and blue-Green algae were reduced by 64.1% and 80.5%, respectively. Microcystin-LR was reduced by 50% to 100%, while geosmin and 2-MIB of the odorant substances were reduced by 42.9% and 11.8%, respectively. The water quality factors such as pH, water temperature, TOC and COD were gradually decreased by 30% in deep water. Therefore, if we used the deep water intake system selectively in the summer season when blue-Green algae masses occur, the concentration of the influx of blue-green algae and its by-products can be expected to decrease, leading to reduced operation costs in tap water production and improved of raw water quality.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between marital satisfaction and the quality of life for women and men who live in a rural area in Korea through an international marriage. Methods: A descriptive correlational research design was used. Ninety-one women and 56 men were surveyed from May 1st., 2007 to April 6th., 2008. Data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and Fisher's exact test. Two types of questionnaires were used: Marital satisfaction scale (MSS) and WHO quality of life-brief (WHOQOL-BREF). Result: There is a gap between men's age and women's in the average of their marriage ; 37 vs 24. In addition, men's marital satisfaction was much higher than women's (t =2.16, p=.032) and quality of life was also higher than women's (t=-0.85, p=.005). According to this survey, therefore, it has been shown that there is a positive correlation between marital satisfaction and the quality of life (r =.435, p<.001). Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of life, marital satisfaction should be promoted by practical family nursing programs and it is necessary for the internationally married women to be continuously provided with language education and cultural awareness.

  • The challenge facing the Korean National Health Insurance includes what to spend money on in order to elevate the 'value for money.' This article reviewed the changing issues associated with quality of care in the Korean health insurance system and envisioned a picture of an effective pay-for-performance (P4P) system in Korea taking into consideration quality of care and P4P systems in other countries. A review was made of existing systematic reviews and a recent Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development survey. An effective P4P in Korea was envisioned as containing three features: measures, basis for reward, and reward. The first priority is to develop proper measures for both efficiency and quality. For further improvement of quality indicators, an electronic system for patient history records should be built in the near future. A change in the level or the relative ranking seems more desirable than using absolute level alone for incentives. To stimulate medium- and small-scale hospitals to join the program in the next phase, it is suggested that the scope of application be expanded and the level of incentives adjusted. High-quality indicators of clinical care quality should be mapped out by combining information from medical claims and information from patient registries.
