Some Considerations for Development of Ship Management Companies in Korea (우리나라의 해외취업선사의 발전방안)

  • The main function of most ship management companies in Korea has been crew manning for foreign shipowners i.e. limited management whereas those in Norway. U, K Hong Kong Singapore and etc. have been largely involved in full management which includes ship operation maintenance and repairs chartering financial administration accounting insurance etc not to mention crew manning The shortage of supply of seamen caused by deindustrialisation and increasing GNP tends to deteriorate the profitability of ship management companies in Korea. In these circumstances they may have to expand their present business to full management in order to continue to be going concerns, This paper evaluates the roles and performances of ship management companies in Korean shipping sector during the last three decades and suggests some ideas in order to develop them identifying major barriers against their development and analysing business activities of ship management companies in advanced maritime countries.

Agent Based Modeling and Simulation of Structural Hole Based Order Allocation Strategy (구조적 공백 기반 주문 분배 전략의 에이전트 기반 모델링 및 시뮬레이션)

  • Order allocation is one of the most important decision-making problems of firms having significant influences on performances of themselves and the whole supply chain. Existing researches about order allocation have mainly focused on evaluating capabilities of directly connected suppliers so that it is hard to consider effects and interactions from undirected connections over multiple lower-layers. To alleviate the limitation, this paper proposed a novel approach to order allocation using structural hole. By applying the concept of structural hole to the supply network, we could evaluate the structural supplying powers of firms with respect to both of direct and indirect connections. In the proposed approach, we derived a methodology to measure the potential supplying power of each firm by modifying the effective size as one of the measurements of structural hole and then, proposed its application, the structural hole based order allocation strategy. Furthermore, we conducted the agent based modeling of supply chain to perform the decision-making process of order allocation and simulated the proposed strategy. As a results, by coping with the variance of demand more stably, it could improve the performance of supply chain from the aspects of fill rate, inventory level and demand-supply balance.

A Study on Evaluation of the Priority Order about Framework Data Building (기본지리정보 구축 우선순위 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Geographic Information has been used widely for landuse and management, city plan, and environment and disaster management, etc., But geographic information has been built for individual cases using various methods. Therefore, the discordancy in data, double investment, confusion of use and difficulty of decision supporting system have been occurred. In order to solve these problems, national government is need to framework database. This framework database was enacted for building and use of National Geographic Information System and focused on basic plan of the second national geographic information system. Also, the framework database was selected of eight fields by NGIS laws and 19 detailed items through meeting of framework committee since 2002. In this research, The 19 detailed items( road, railroad, coastline, surveying control point etc.,) of framework database consider a Priority order, In the result of this research, the framework database is obtain to a priority order for building and the national government will carry effectively out a budget for the framework database building. Each of 19 detailed items is grouping into using the priority order of the framework database by AHP analysis method and verified items by decision tree analysis method. The one of the highest priority order items is a road, which is important for building, continuous renovation, and maintain management for use.

Establishment on Management Plan of Environmental Noise with Noise Map (소음지도를 활용한 환경소음 관리계획 수립)

  • The objective of this study is to prepare the effective management plan of environmental noise with a noise map, and the guideline on the management plan of environmental noise was suggested through the review of existing application examples. The management plan of environmental noise with a noise map includes the practical contents in the stages of subdivision of management areas, establishment of reduction measures, opinion collection, post investigation, and reformulation of management plan. First, the classification of management regions is performed considering the excess degree of noise standard and the facility type in the phase of subdivision of management areas. Second, the optimal management plan is established through the investigation of regional characteristics and various noise reduction measures in the phase of establishment of reduction measures, which includes the examination of noise reduction effects with a noise map and the budget planning with the costing of noise reduction measures. Third, the opinion survey with a local resident and a expert is carried out in order to prove the validity of the management plan in the phase of opinion collection, and the management plan is modified with gathered opinions. Fourth, the post examination plan with noise measurement is performed in order to verify the real effect of noise reduction measures according to the management plan in the phase of post investigation. Finally, the amendment of the management plan as well as the improvement of a noise map is carried out at a regular cycle in the phase of reformulation of management plan.

The Evaluation of Service Employees' Sanitary Management in Hotels (특급 호텔 레스토랑 서비스 제공자의 위생 관리 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sanitary management of hotel employees in Seoul. The results were summarized as follows : The total mean of sanitary management perception by factor was 3.91${\pm}$0.62, in which personal sanitation, property management, environment and facility factors were, in order, 3.99${\pm}$0.82, 3.91${\pm}$0.75, 3.90${\pm}$0.86 and 3.85${\pm}$0.82, respectively. This study showed that there was a significant difference in the perception of sanitary management among environment, facility and property management by age based on general characteristics. While there were no differences by hiring type, there was a significant difference among environment, facility and property management with personal sanitation factor according to the employee’s career path. There was also a significant difference between property management and personal sanitation factor according to hotel management style. In addition, a significant difference was observed among environment facility and property management with personal sanitation factor according to work place. In conclusion, it is imperative to continue educational programs for sanitary management by career, work place and management style in order to improve sanitary management of hotel employees’.

Selection of Key Management Targets for Claim Causes through Relational Analysis on the Causes of Change Order Claims

  • As various stakeholders are involved in construction projects, disputes between the parties are more likely to occur, which is a very important issue for the participants in the projects. Claims in construction projects, however, are very complex and thus difficult to manage. In particular, as the cause of a claim in the preceding stage that has not been resolved in a timely manner has an effect on the cause of a claim in the following stage, it is difficult to find a point of compromise regarding a claim caused by the relationship between the causes that occur in the preceding and following stages. In this regard, this study sought to examine the rules for the generation of change order claims, which occur most frequently among the construction claims, and thus to select the key management targets through the analysis of the relationship between the causes of claims arising in the preceding and following stages for the efficient management of claims. It is expected that the use of rules for the generation of change order claims as well as of representative and similar cases will help the construction practitioners in judging claims, considering the relationships among the causes of the claims. Meanwhile, in this study, association analysis was conducted regarding the causes of the occurrence of change order claims in a design-build delivery method, and therefore, it is necessary to verify the effectiveness of the method when applied to other delivery methods.

  • This paper deals with a new automated guided vehicle (AGV) control system for distributed control. Proposed AGV control system adapts the multi-agent technology. The system is composed of two types of controller: routing and order. The order controller is in charge of assignment of orders to AGVs. Through the bidding-based negotiation with routing controllers, the order controller assigns a new order to the proper AGV. The order controller announces order information to the routing controllers. Then the routing controllers generate a routing schedule for the order and make a bid according to the routing schedule. If the routing schedule conflicts with other AGV's one, the routing controller makes an alternative through negotiation with other routing controllers. The order controller finally evaluates bids and selects one. Each controller consists of a set of agents: negotiation agent, decision making agent and communication agent. We focus on the agent architecture and negotiation-based AGV scheduling algorithm. Proposed system is validated through an exemplary scenario.

  • In supply chain, there are a variety of different uncertainties including demand, service time, lead time, and so forth. The uncertainty of demand has been commonly studied by researchers or practitioners in the field of supply chain. However, the uncertainty of upstream supply chain has also increased. A problem of uncertainty in the upstream supply chain is the fluctuation of the lead time. The stochastic lead time sometimes causes to happen so called the order crossover which is not the same sequences of the order placed and the order arrived. When the order crossover happens, ordinary inventory policies have difficult to find the optimal inventory solutions. In this research, we investigate the lead time distribution in case of the order crossover and explore the resolutions of the inventory solution with the order crossover.

  • In this paper we propose a product-service valuation model which is usable as a decision-making tool in order to attain a competitive advantage in service in the manufacturing industry. With this purpose, service quality, product quality and costs as valuation criteria are selected. Also, the paper utilizes an AHP model in order to differentiate a fuzzy theory and valuation factors to ensure objectivity in the evaluated results while excluding subjective factors in conducting the product-service valuation. Accordingly, the product-service valuation model and valuated results proposed in this paper are expected to be useful as a basic data for decision-making in order to draw competitive advantage strategies of service in the manufacturing industry.

  • The managerial environment of automobile industry has been rapidly changing, mainly with the tighter standard of legal and environmental regulations, the pressure of cost reduction from the end-user, the various functional improvements of vehicles, and the globalization management. In order to survive in this complicate circumstances, the automakers have strongly pursued the mutual collaboration with the suppliers, especially tier-1, for the optimal selection of parts/materials and the assembly manufacturing processes of the new model development. They prepare the early involvement program for the suppliers during the conceptual design stage, and implement the win-win strategy of technology development activity, in order to improve the value creation. This study considers the strategic technology management of automotive steel sheets makers on the aspects of strategy, processes, human & physical resources, and organization structure. It also suggests the corporate strategies of steel mills, in order to obtain the technology competence.
