The experiment was conducted to determine the optimum stocking density for Korean Native Chicken. The experiment was carried out with 810 Korean Native Chickens for 16weeks from April 22. 1987 to August 11. 1987. The chickens were housed in pens with varying stocking densities; T1(20 birds per 3.3$m^2$), T2(30 birds per 3.3$m^2$), T3(40 birds per 3.3$m^2$), T4(50 birds per 3.3$m^2$), T5(60 birds per 3.3$m^2$) and T6(70 birds per 3.3$m^2$). Each treatment contained three replicates. At the end of the trial, the average body weight of T1 was significantly heavier than that of T5 (P<0.05), but there were no statistical differences among the treatments in fed intake. The feed conversion of T3 was improved significantly in comparison with that of T5(P<0.05), and the viability of T1 showed a significantly difference with that of T5, T1 showed the highest production number, whereas T5 the lowest one.
This study investigated the effects of stocking density and feeding frequency (three and five times per week) on the growth of Pacific cod, Gadus macrocephalus. In the first experiment, experimental groups of fish (mean weight $167.8{\pm}41.4\;g$) were reared at three stocking densities (4, 8 and 12 kg/$m^3$) for 16 weeks. The total weight gain was 17.8, 17.1 and 35.4% at 4, 8 and 12 kg/$m^3$, respectively. The specific growth rates, survival rates and feeding efficiency increased with the density, but there were no significant differences (P>0.05). The daily feed intake decreased as the stocking density increased, whereas the condition factors increased with the stocking density (P<0.05). In the second experiment, groups of fish ($194.1{\pm}68.3\;g$) were fed either three or five times a week. The total wight gain was 14.4 and 18.5% for the fish fed three and five times per week, respectively. The specific growth rates of Pacific cod fed to satiation increased with the feeding frequency, although the difference was not significant (P>0.05). The survival rates, daily feed intake, feed efficiency, and condition factors of the Pacific cod were not significantly different (P>0.05). Based on these results, the optimum stocking density for juvenile cod is above 12 kg/$m^3$, and the best feeding frequency is three times a week, under the conditions used in this experiment.
This study investigated the effects of stocking density on the growth of the mandarin fish Siniperca scherzeri, in small (1-year old, 50.2 g/fish) and large (2-years old, 173.1 g/fish) size (age) groups. Small and large fish groups were fed pelleted diets twice daily for 10 and 15 weeks, respectively. In the small group, at the end of the feeding, the weight gain of fish at a density of $4kg/m^3$ was lower than that of fish at densities of 3, 2 and $1kg/m^3$. However, fish stocking density did not affect feed efficiency. The daily feed intake of fish at a density of $4kg/m^3$ was lower than that fish at densities of 3, 2 and $1kg/m^3$. In the large fish group, the weight gain of fish at a density of $4.5kg/m^3$ was higher than that of fish at densities of 6, 3 and $1.5kg/m^3$. Again, fish stocking density did not affect feed efficiency. The daily feed intake of fish at a density of $4.5kg/m^3$ was higher than that of fish at densities of 6, 3 and $1.5kg/m^3$. Based on these results, the optimum stocking density for small (50.2 g/fish) and large (173.1 g/fish) mandarin fish is 3 and $4.5kg/m^3$, respectively.
The effects of different stocking densities on the growth of juvenile abalone, Haliotis discus hannai and water quality in the recirculating system with rotating biological contactor, were assessed. The trials were conducted using total weight 32 g juveniles abalone for 60 days at stocking densities of 5, 10, 15 kg/$m^2$. The animals were fed sufficient amounts of the pellet diet of 30.4% protein during the experimental period. Daily feeding rate (DFR) and survival rate (SR) of 5 kg/$m^2$ showed 0.76% and 85.5% those were not significantly differed 10 kg/$m^2$ showing 0.75% and 96.0% (P>0.05). DFR and SR of 15 kg/$m^2$ showing 0.38% and 31.2% were significantly lower than 5 and 10 kg/m2 (P<0.05). Daily growth rate (DGR) and feed efficiency (FE) showed the highest as 0.19% and 24.2% in 5 kg/$m^2$ the lowest as 0.05% and 14.3% in 15 kg/$m^2$ (P<0.05). According to, these results was an inverse relationship between growth and stocking density. The optimum density of juvenile abalone from this experiment is 5 to 10 kg/$m^2$ in the recirculating system.

Most of Korean farms have been developed in the semi-closed bay, and its position is very vulnerable to the coastal contamination due to the long term and the high density. So, mariculture management is very essential for the sustainable aquaculture. Some of the specific ways would be the assessment of the optimal stocking density for mariculture management zone and this has to consider both the suitable site selection and the assessment of ecological carrying capacity. Habitat suitability index(0.0 totally unsuitable habitat, 1.0 optimum habitat) and ecological indicator(Filtration pressure indicator) was used to assess the stocking density for oyster farms in Geoje-Hansan Bay. Geoje Bay showed the higher habitat suitability index value 0.75 than Hansan Bay 0.53, indicating that Geoje Bay is more suitable for oyster farming. Ecological indicator showed different stocking density according to the coastal characteristics in Geoje-Hansan Bay. Consequently, it is desirable that the stocking density in Geoje Bay should reduce average 40% and Hansan Bay, average 60% than present, in order to meet the ecological carrying capacity. The assessment of the stocking density could solve various problems such as the coastal contamination, environmental aggravation and the productivity decrease and this study could be a scientific basis to establish the policies for mariculture management.

This study was conducted to investigated the effects of stocking density on growth and survival of sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus in the indoor multiple tank for 12 weeks. There were six treatments(stocking densities) in this experiment, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 individuals per 10 L plastic aquarium($W41{\times}H24{\times}D11cm$, represented as D1, D2, D3, D4, D5 and D10, respectively). Each treatment had ten replicates. The results showed growth variation of sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus decreased with the increase of stocking densities. After the end of the experiment, no significant differences(P>0.05) between D1~D5 treatment group whereas significant differences(P<0.05) between D1 and D10 treatment group. Survival rate showed D1~D10 were 90%, 90%, 100%, 95%, 94% and 72%, respectively. Especially, significant differences(P>0.05) between D1~D5 and D10 treatment group. The results indicated optimum of stocking density for sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus within five individuals per 10 L plastic aquarium($0.05individuals/m^2$).

The effects of different stocking densities on the growth and survival rate of the abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, were investigated in marine net cage for two years. Stocking density was set 15, 30, 45 and 60 percentage $(=per.)/m^2$ with share to cross-sectional area per shelter. The primary rearing period (PRP) and the secondary rearing period (SRP) were conducted by a year. One year mean water temperature of PRP and SRS showed the difference about $2^{\circ}C$. In the growth (initial mean shell length of abalone : $36.14{\pm}2.28mm$) of PRP, the absolute growth rate (ARG), daily growth rate (DGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) of the $15per./m^2$ were higher than those of density groups (P < 0.05). Survival rates of all density groups were showed no significant difference. In the growth (mean shell length of abalone : $55.26{\pm}6.93mm$) of SRP, ARG, DGR and SGR of stocking density groups showed no significant difference except for $45per./m^2$ density group. Survival rate in the low-density (15, $30per./m^2$) was more than 70%, and those of the high-density (45, $60per./m^2$) were less than 31% and 9%, respectively. These results showed that the appropriate stocking density for $15per./m^2$ was seven hundred fifty number per one net cage ($2.4{\times}2.4m$), during PRP using 3-4 cm abalone in length. Also for the secondary rearing period, the optimal stocking density (shell length 5-6 cm of abalone) consider with the economical efficiency was determined to be $30per./m^2$, resulting the productivity improved.

A feeding trial was carried out to investigate the optimum density of juvenile abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) fed the formulated diet or macroalgae ( Undaria). Abalone with initial average shell length of 8.41 mm were stocked into three replicate tanks at four different densities of 1430, 2860, 4290, and 5720 individual/$m^2$ for 15 weeks. The formulated diet produced higher body weight and shell growth, soft body weight and survival rate than Undaria in abalone. Abalone fed the formulated diet have significantly (P<0,05) higher lipid and ash, and lower moisture and protein in soft body. Higher density resulted in lower growth and survival (P<0.05). Whereas shell growth, survival rate and weight gain were not significantly (P>0.05) different within the abalone stocked at stocking densities of 1430 and 2860 individual/$m^2$ in each diet group. Body composition of abalone was not affected by increasing density. These study indicate that the number of abalone (shell length ranges of between 8 mm and 17 mm) below 2860 individual/$m^2$ were predicted to effective density in the indoor tank culture system.
We performed four sets of feeding trials to establish optimum feed size (Exp-I), stocking density (Exp-II) and feeding frequency (Exp-III and IV) for Korean rockfish. In Exp-I, three different particle sizes of a commercial diet (small, 2.0-2.1 mm; medium, 2.4-3.2 mm; and large, 4.0-5.3 mm) were fed to four replicate groups of fish ($22.8{\pm}0.1g$), each of which was fed to apparent satiation for six weeks. In Exp-II, fish ($44.3{\pm}0.4g$) were reared at four stocking densities (1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 $kg/m^3$) and fed a commercial diet to apparent satiation for four weeks. In Exp-III, fish ($14.8{\pm}0.1g$) were fed a commercial diet once, twice, thrice, $4{\times}$ or $5{\times}$ a day at a feeding ratio of 3.25% of body mass. Another group of fish was fed the same commercial diet $5{\times}$ a day to apparent satiation; this treatment was designated FS (five times satiation/day). In Exp-IV, fish ($31.3{\pm}0.1g$) were fed a commercial diet once, twice, thrice or $4{\times}$ a day to apparent satiation. Another group of fish was fed to apparent satiation once every 48 hours. In Exp-I, fish fed the large particle (4.0-5.3 mm) diet had a significantly higher feed conversion ratio and lower protein efficiency ratio than fish fed the small particle diet. In Exp-II, groups of fish reared at densities of 4.5 and 6.0 $kg/m^3$ had significantly higher feed intake and growth performance than fish reared at 1.5 and 3.0 $kg/m^3$. In Exp-III, fish fed to apparent satiation had significantly higher growth performances than fish fed once or $4{\times}$ a day. A significantly higher feed conversion ratio and a lower protein efficiency ratio were obtained in the FS group. In Exp-IV, growth performance and feed utilization efficiency were not significantly affected by experimental variation in feeding frequency. Fish fed to apparent satiation once every 48 hours had better feed utilization than those in other treatments and growth performances of those were comparable. Therefore, the optimum feed particle size, stocking density and feeding frequency for Korean rockfish under conditions we used were 2.0-3.2 mm, 4.5-6.0 $kg/m^3$, and once a day or once every 48 hour, respectively.
The effects of different stocking densities on the growth and survival rate of the 3-year-old pacific abalone, Haliotis dicus hannai were investigated in marine net cage for a year. Stocking densities in net cage ($2.4{\times}1.2m$) was set 15, 30, 45 and 60 percentage (= per)/sq m (square meter, $m^2$) with share to cross-sectional area per shelter. The water temperature during the testing period was $8.2^{\circ}C-22.1^{\circ}C$, and salinity is $33.5{\pm}0.6psu$, and dissolved oxygen is $7.87{\pm}0.86mg/L$. In the shell length (initial size : $71.50{\pm}2.28mm$) growth and shell breadth (initial size : $46.43{\pm}2.28mm$) of the test abalones, the absolute growth rate (ARG), daily growth rate (DGR) and specific growth rates (SGR) of the 15 per/sq m and 30 per/sq m were higher than those of 45 per/sq m and 60 per/sq m density group (P < 0.05). Also in the weight (initial weight : $35.7{\pm}8.1g$), it showed the same results. In survival rates, it were that 15 per/sq m and 30 per/sq m is significantly higher than 45 per/sq m and 60 per/sq m. Therefore, it was that the 15 per/sq m is optimized stocking density in marine net cages about the 3-year-old pacific abalone over 70 mm size. The result shown that total cross-sectional area under the shelter is based on 15 per/sq m ($2.4{\times}2.4m$, 354 number in a net cage) is suitable for fast growth and survival. But if the economy consider, optimized stocking density would be appropriate to accept 30 per/sq m ($2.4{\times}2.4m$, 710 number in a net cage).
