  • Although the current Web search engines provide tremendous information, it is hard to find right information among the huge information. Users need to spend extra time to filter out unnecessary information. In order to overcome the limit of current Web search engines, Semantic Web was developed to provide efficient search, integration, and reuse of information by structuring semantic information from Web resources. In this paper, an elementary education contents retrieval system using Semantic Web is proposed. The proposed system emphasizes history contents that have high relevancy among data. For construction of the proposed system, ontology is proposed first for elementary study contents and ontology for historical contents is proposed for easy access to those contents using semantic relation among them. Based on the ontology, the proposed system is designed and implemented. The proposed system has the following characteristics. First, the system provides various query formats in detail so that search results can be refined efficiently. Second, the system presents only semantically information connected with key words or including key words using study contents ontology. Finally, the proposed system can increase study effects by presenting various contents that are related with query by users.

  • OWL is an ontology language for the Semantic Web, and suited to modelling the knowledge of a specific domain in the real-world. Ontology also can infer new implicit knowledge from the explicit knowledge. However, the modeled knowledge cannot be complete as the whole of the common-sense of the human cannot be represented totally. Ontology do not concern handling nonmonotonic reasoning to detect incomplete modeling such as the integrity constraints and exceptions. A default rule can handle the exception about a specific class in ontology. Integrity constraint can be clear that restrictions on class define which and how many relationships the instances of that class must hold. In this paper, we propose a practical reasoning system for open and closed-world reasoning that supports a novel hybrid integration of ontology based on open world assumption (OWA) and non-monotonic rule based on closed-world assumption (CWA). The system utilizes a method to solve the problem which occurs when dealing with the incomplete knowledge under the OWA. The method uses the answer set programming (ASP) to find a solution. ASP is a logic-program, which can be seen as the computational embodiment of non-monotonic reasoning, and enables a query based on CWA to knowledge base (KB) of description logic. Our system not only finds practical cases from examples by the Protege, which require non-monotonic reasoning, but also estimates novel reasoning results for the cases based on KB which realizes a transparent integration of rules and ontologies supported by some well-known projects.

  • In this research, a proposed Dynamic Virtual Ontology using Tags (DyVOT) supports dynamic search of resources depending on user's requirements using tags from social web driven resources. It is general that the tags are defined by annotations of a series of described words by social users who usually tags social information resources such as web-page, images, u-tube, videos, etc. Therefore, tags are characterized and mirrored by information resources. Therefore, it is possible for tags as meta-data to match into some resources. Consequently, we can extract semantic relationships between tags owing to the dependency of relationships between tags as representatives of resources. However, to do this, there is limitation because there are allophonic synonym and homonym among tags that are usually marked by a series of words. Thus, research related to folksonomies using tags have been applied to classification of words by semantic-based allophonic synonym. In addition, some research are focusing on clustering and/or classification of resources by semantic-based relationships among tags. In spite of, there also is limitation of these research because these are focusing on semantic-based hyper/hypo relationships or clustering among tags without consideration of conceptual associative relationships between classified or clustered groups. It makes difficulty to effective searching resources depending on user requirements. In this research, the proposed DyVOT uses tags and constructs ontologyfor effective search. We assumed that tags are extracted from user requirements, which are used to construct multi sub-ontology as combinations of tags that are composed of a part of the tags or all. In addition, the proposed DyVOT constructs ontology which is based on hierarchical and associative relationships among tags for effective search of a solution. The ontology is composed of static- and dynamic-ontology. The static-ontology defines semantic-based hierarchical hyper/hypo relationships among tags as in (http://semanticcloud.sandra-siegel.de/) with a tree structure. From the static-ontology, the DyVOT extracts multi sub-ontology using multi sub-tag which are constructed by parts of tags. Finally, sub-ontology are constructed by hierarchy paths which contain the sub-tag. To create dynamic-ontology by the proposed DyVOT, it is necessary to define associative relationships among multi sub-ontology that are extracted from hierarchical relationships of static-ontology. The associative relationship is defined by shared resources between tags which are linked by multi sub-ontology. The association is measured by the degree of shared resources that are allocated into the tags of sub-ontology. If the value of association is larger than threshold value, then associative relationship among tags is newly created. The associative relationships are used to merge and construct new hierarchy the multi sub-ontology. To construct dynamic-ontology, it is essential to defined new class which is linked by two more sub-ontology, which is generated by merged tags which are highly associative by proving using shared resources. Thereby, the class is applied to generate new hierarchy with extracted multi sub-ontology to create a dynamic-ontology. The new class is settle down on the ontology. So, the newly created class needs to be belong to the dynamic-ontology. So, the class used to new hyper/hypo hierarchy relationship between the class and tags which are linked to multi sub-ontology. At last, DyVOT is developed by newly defined associative relationships which are extracted from hierarchical relationships among tags. Resources are matched into the DyVOT which narrows down search boundary and shrinks the search paths. Finally, we can create the DyVOT using the newly defined associative relationships. While static data catalog (Dean and Ghemawat, 2004; 2008) statically searches resources depending on user requirements, the proposed DyVOT dynamically searches resources using multi sub-ontology by parallel processing. In this light, the DyVOT supports improvement of correctness and agility of search and decreasing of search effort by reduction of search path.

  • Starting with the "Smart Grid National Road Map" in 2010, the Smart Grid 2030 was introduced through the basic plan and implementation plan of the intelligent power grid with the goal of building the world's first national smart grid. In this paper, we intend to build a power domain ontology based on the power business platform based on the upper and lower conceptual models of the "Smart Grid Interoperability Standard Framework and Roadmap", the standard of implementation plan. Ontology is suitable for expressing and utilizing the smart grid conceptual model because it considers hierarchical structure as knowledge defines the properties of entities and relationships between entities, but there is no research related to them. Therefore, in this paper, the upper ontology was defined as a major category for smart grid-related fields, and the lower ontology was defined as detailed systems and functions for the upper ontology to construct the ontology. In addition, scenarios in various situations that could occur in the power system were constructed and significant inference results were derived through inference engines and queries.

  • Recently, many researches on autonomous mobile system have been proposed, which are possible to recognize its surrounding environment and navigate to destination without supervisor's intervention. Various sensors are mounted on the autonomous systems in order for the systems to move to destination safely without any accident. In this paper, we design an ontology-based autonomous system mounted laser distance sensors and cameras, and propose a method to conceptualize sensing information. We show the validity of the proposed method through the experiments of the system's navigation.

  • Recently, an ERP (Enterprise resource Planning) system has been becoming an essential S/W tool for companies to manage their business processes and manufacturing resources. As the information exchange becomes more complex, not only corporate companies but also small- and mid- sized enterprises (SMEs) are required to build an ERP system. However, for small- and middle- sized companies, the adoption of ERP systems becomes challenging due to high cost and long installation time of the system. This paper presents a novel concept of an adaptive ERP system incorporating the ontology structure of the business supply chain information. The proposed ERP installation methodology is illustrated with an example of a door-trim manufacturing company in the automotive supply chain.

  • Ubiquitous computing is a technique to provide users with appropriate services, collecting the context information in somewhere by attached sensor. An intelligent system needs to automatically update services according to the user's various circumstances. To do this, in this paper, we propose a design of context ontology, trigger rule for mining service pattern related to users activity and an active mining architecture integrating trigger system. The proposed system is a framework for active mining user activity and service pattern by considering the relation between user context and object based on trigger system.

  • In this paper, we present an automated Web page classification system based upon ontology. As a first step, to identify the representative terms given a set of classes, we compute the product of term frequency and document frequency. Secondly, the information gain of each term prioritizes it based on the possibility of classification. We compile a pair of the terms selected and a web page classification into rules using machine learning algorithms. The compiled rules classify any Web page into categories defined on a domain ontology. In the experiments, 78 terms out of 240 terms were identified as representative features given a set of Web pages. The resulting accuracy of the classification was, on the average, 83.52%.

  • To make Web Services the real applications, the efficient mechanisms for Web Services discovery, Web Services composition and Web Services execution must be provided. Among these issues, especially, Web Services composition plays the key roles in Web Services applications that are loosely coupled and composed applications consisted of primitive Web Service components. In this paper we demonstrate a new Web Service composition approach using ontologies. We apply ontologies to describe Web Services information such as Web Services input/output parameters, pre conditions, post conditions and other necessary management information. In this paper, we also introduce Action ontology and Object ontology to describe the functional properties of Web Services These ontologies offer semantic description of Web Services functionalities beyond the limitation of the current WSDL. We can achieve semantic interoperabilities between heterogeneous Web Services in terms of conceptual processing and realize semantic services composition. We implement semantic Web Services composition system called Genie based on service description ontologies.

  • The rapid growth of IT technologies enables the quality of human's daily life to be improved dramatically, Contrasting to the services in previous computing environment directed by user's request, the services in ubiquitous computing era of new IT technology are provided through recognizing users intention and utilizing context-aware information suited to the user. According to the contextual information, agents need to set a dynamic goal to achieve and work collaboratively with other agents. Agents that take control over their behaviors with capability of communicating with other agents become a thrust in this up-coming computing environment. This work focuses on building ontologies, shared knowledge bases among agents, to improve semantical interoperability among agents. More attention is given to the construction and effective management of ontology repository along with its requirement and organization. Ontology agent suggested takes an initiative role to manage the repository in a distributed manner and to facilitate the use of ontology in a multi-agent environment.
