In a turbulent free shear flow, the large scale motion is characterized by the intermittent flow which arises from the interaction between the turbulent fluid and the irrotational fluid of the environment through the mean velocity gradient. This large scale motion causes a bulk convection whose effect is similar to the spatial diffusion process. In this paper, the total diffusion process is proposed to be approximated by weighted sum of the bulk convection due to the large scale motion and the usual gradient diffusion due to small scale motion. The diffusion term in conventional .kappa.-.epsilon. model requires on more equation of the intermittency transport equation. A production term of this equation means mass entrainment from the irrotational fluid to the turbulent one. In order to test the validity of the proposed model, a plane jet is predicted by this method. Numerical results of this model is found to yield better agreement with experiment than the standard .kappa.-.epsilon. model and Byggstoyl & Kollmann's model(1986). Present hybrid diffusion model requires further tests for the check of universality of model and for the model constant fix.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to empirically verify an ePortfolio success model which shows the structural causal relationships among the basic modeling constructs. We developed the success model based on DeLone and Mclean(2003) from IS perspective and on Balaban et al(2013) from ePortfolio perspective. And we are focused on the success of ePortfolio system designed for college students and professors. Design/methodology/approach Structural equation modeling techniques were applied to data collected 375 users of the ePortfolio system, K-Folio, at least one semester during one academic year. The structural model was analyzed using a Lisrel 8.54 statistical program. Findings The followings are the findings of the study. First, the constructs of IS success model are well applied to ePortfolio for college education. Second, the proposed model which has direct causal relationships from ePortfolio's quality to performance is more significant than the D&M and Balaban's model(2013). Third, the information quality among ePortfolio quality constructs does not have effect on system usability and performance. It means that information contents' quality issued by professor or system manager is not satisfied with the students yet. Finally, by using indirect analysis of structural equation model, we found that the ePortfolio operation manager should focus on ensuring system maintenance activities and providing fast and accurate services for improving ePortfolio performance.

This paper presents a feasibility study whether Shida's constitutive equation being widely used for plain carbon steel in steel manufacturing industry can be extended to alloy steels with a due carbon equivalent model. T,he constitutive relation of the alloy steels (SAE9254, AISI52100 and AISI4140) is measured using hot deformation simulator (GLEEBLE 3500C) at high temperatures ($800^{\circ}C{\~}1000^{\circ}C$) within strain rates of $0.05{\~}40\;s^{-1}$. It has been found the predicted flow stress behavior (constitutive relation) of AISI52100 steel is in agreement with the measured one. On the other hand, the measured flow stress behavior of SAE9254 and AISI4140 steel partly concords with the predicted one when material experiences relatively high strain rate ($10{\~}40\;s^{-1}$) deformation at low temperature ($800^{\circ}C$). It can be deduced that, for AISI52100 steel, Shida's equation with the carbon equivalent model can be applicable directly to the roughing and intermediate finishing stand in hot rolling process for calculating the roll force and torque.
Bootstrap is a resampling technique to find an estimate of parameters or to evaluate the estimate. This technique has been used in estimating parameters in linear model(LM) and generalized linear model(GLM). In this paper, we explore the possibility of applying Bootstrapping Residuals, Pairs, and an Estimating Equation that are most widely used in LM and GLM to the generalized estimating equation(GEE) algorithm for modelling repeatedly measured regression data sets. We compared three bootstrapping methods with coefficient and standard error estimates of GEE models from one simulated and one real data set. Overall, the estimates obtained from bootstrap methods are quite comparable, except that estimates from bootstrapping pairs are somewhat different from others. We conjecture that the strange behavior of estimates from bootstrapping pairs comes from the inconsistency of those estimates. However, we need a more thorough simulation study to generalize it since those results are coming from only two small data sets.

Finite element analysis using modern constitutive equation is one of the most general tools to simulate the deformation behavior and to predict the life of the structure. Constitutive equation becomes complicated so as to predict the material behavior more accurately than the classical models. Because of the complexity of constitutive model, numerical treatment becomes so difficult that the calculation should be verified carefully. One-element tests, simple tension or simple shear, are usually used to verify the accuracy of finite element analysis using complicated constitutive model. Since this test is mainly focused on the time integration scheme, it is also necessary to verify the equilibrium iteration using material stiffness matrix and to compare FE results with solution of structures. In this investigation, viscoplastic solution of thick walled cylinder was derived considering axial constraints and was compared with the finite element analysis. All the numerical solutions showed a good coincidence with FE results. This numerical solution can be used as a verification tool for newly developed FE code with complicated constitutive model.

Most hydro]ogic phenomena are the complex and organic products of multiple causations like climatic and hydro-geological factors. A certain significant correlation on the run-off in river basin would be expected and foreseen in advance, and the effect of each these causual and associated factors (independant variables; present-month rainfall, previous-month run-off, evapotranspiration and relative humidity etc.) upon present-month run-off(dependent variable) may be determined by multiple regression analysis. Functions between independant and dependant variables should be treated repeatedly until satisfactory and optimal combination of independant variables can be obtained. Reliability of the estimated function should be tested according to the result of statistical criterion such as analysis of variance, coefficient of determination and significance-test of regression coefficients before first estimated multiple regression model in historical sequence is determined. But some error between observed and estimated run-off is still there. The error arises because the model used is an inadequate description of the system and because the data constituting the record represent only a sample from a population of monthly discharge observation, so that estimates of model parameter will be subject to sampling errors. Since this error which is a deviation from multiple regression plane cannot be explained by first estimated multiple regression equation, it can be considered as a random error governed by law of chance in nature. This unexplained variance by multiple regression equation can be solved by stochastic approach, that is, random error can be stochastically simulated by multiplying random normal variate to standard error of estimate. Finally hybrid model on estimation of monthly run-off in nonhistorical sequence can be determined by combining the determistic component of multiple regression equation and the stochastic component of random errors. Monthly run-off in Naju station in Yong-San river basin is estimated by multiple regression model and hybrid model. And some comparisons between observed and estimated run-off and between multiple regression model and already-existing estimation methods such as Gajiyama formula, tank model and Thomas-Fiering model are done. The results are as follows. (1) The optimal function to estimate monthly run-off in historical sequence is multiple linear regression equation in overall-month unit, that is; Qn=0.788Pn+0.130Qn-1-0.273En-0.1 About 85% of total variance of monthly runoff can be explained by multiple linear regression equation and its coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.843. This means we can estimate monthly runoff in historical sequence highly significantly with short data of observation by above mentioned equation. (2) The optimal function to estimate monthly runoff in nonhistorical sequence is hybrid model combined with multiple linear regression equation in overall-month unit and stochastic component, that is; Qn=0. 788Pn+0. l30Qn-1-0. 273En-0. 10+Sy.t The rest 15% of unexplained variance of monthly runoff can be explained by addition of stochastic process and a bit more reliable results of statistical characteristics of monthly runoff in non-historical sequence are derived. This estimated monthly runoff in non-historical sequence shows up the extraordinary value (maximum, minimum value) which is not appeared in the observed runoff as a random component. (3) "Frequency best fit coefficient" (R2f) of multiple linear regression equation is 0.847 which is the same value as Gaijyama's one. This implies that multiple linear regression equation and Gajiyama formula are theoretically rather reasonable functions.

For the analysis of phonon heat transfer within short time and spatial scales, conventional macroscopic heat conduction equations with jump boundary conditions are tried and the results are compared to those of equation of phonon radiative transport(EPRT), which is one of microscopic transport equation. In transient state the macroscopic temperatures show far different behavior from EPRT. In steady state the hyperbolic temperatures with temperature jump at the wall from time relaxation model agrees well with EPRT temperatures. Since EPRT is also an approximate form of microscopic transport equation and there are no experimental results to verify the proposed model in this study, we can not conclude whether the approaching method from this study is valid or not. To the authors' knowledge, there are no experimental results available which can be used to test the validity of these models. Such an experiment, while difficult to conduct, would be invaluable.
In this study, we calculated the redistribution of vacancy concentration in metal specimens induced by stress-induced diffusion at a high temperature. To deduce the governing equation, we associated the unit volume change equation of strains with a differential equation of vacancy concentration as a function of stress using the stress-strain relationship. In this governing equation, we considered stress as the only chemical potential parameter to stay in the scope of this study, which provided the vacancy concentration equation as of stress gradient in metals. The equation was then mathematically delineated to derive a analytical solution for a transient, one-dimensional diffusion case. With the help of Korhonen's approximation and the boundary conditions, we successfully deduced a general solution from the governing equation. To visualize the feasibility of our solutions, we applied the solution to two different stress-induced cases - a rod with fixed concentrated stresses at both ends and a rod with varying concentrated stresses at both ends. Although it is necessary to legitimatized the model in the future for improvement, our results showed that the model can be used to interpret the location of structural defects, the formation of vacancy, and furthermore the high temperature behavior of metals.
This paper establishes in a new unified manner new mathematical models with core(iron) loss factor for two kinds of AC motors, induction and synchronous motors which are supposed to generate torque precisely or/and efficiently under vector controls. Our new models consist of three basic equations consistent with the others such as differential equation describing electromagnetic dynamics, torque equation describing torque generating mechanism, energy transmission equation describing how injected energy is wasted, saved or transmitted where all vector signals are defined in general frame of arbitrary instant angular velocity. It is clearly shown in our models that equivalent core-loss resistance can express appropriately and separately both eddy-current and hysteresis losses rather than mere vague loss. Proposed model of induction motor is the most compact in sense of the number of employed interior states and parameters. This compact model can also represent eddy-current and hysteresis losses of rotor as well as stator. For synchronous motor, saliency is taken into consideration. As well known model for cylindrical motor can be obtained directly from salient one as its special case.

In order to develop a mathematical model which can predict the operating voltage and current of a discharge lamp, the properties and the physical phenomena of a low pressure gas discharge are investigated. Fluorescent lamp which uses a low pressure mercury-argon gas discharge is used in the model development. In a low pressure mercur-argon gas discharge, the continuity equation for each excited atom and electron, and the electron energy balance equation can predict the physical quantities of discharge. By coupling these equations and the circuit equation, the electrical characteristics of the discharge lamp can be predicted. To verify the validity of the suggested model, we calculated the voltage and current of a fluorescent lamp operating with inductor ballast for source frequency of 5KHz, 8KHz, 10KHz, and 13KHz. The results show good agreements in wave forms between the measured voltage and current, and the difference between the measured and calculated one is less than 5%.
