Oral Health Status of the Old, over 65 who Dwell in Seongnam City (성남시 거주 65세 이상 노인의 구강건강실태)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health states of elderly people over the age of 65 from the city of Seongnam, including the number of present permanent tooth, dental caries, rate of treatment need, CPITN and use of prosthesis, in a bid to lay the foundation for improving elderly oral health programs. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The DMF rate of the male senior citizens stood at 98.3 percent, and that of the women numbered 99.0 percent and DMFT index 20.8. 2. The number of present permanent tooth excluded the third molars was 13. 3. Regarding CPITN, $CPITN_1$ was 74.9 percent, and $CPITN_2$ was 56.2 percent. $CPITN_3$ was 8.0 percent. 4. The rate of full denture wearing of the elderly people was 26.1 percent in the upper part and 17.8 percent in the lower part. And their rate of full denture need was 7.4 percent in the upper part and 4.3 percent in the lower part. 5. Establishing an planned abject for Oral health, Seongnam City has reviewed the necessity of development on enhancement of Oral health.

Relationship of Academic Achievement, Self-Esteem, Parental Educational Level and Occupational Aspiration in Elementary School Students (초등학생의 학업성취, 자아존중감, 부모의 학력과 직업포부의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine variables affecting the occupational aspiration of elementary school students and the relationship of the variables in a bid to acquire empirical information on influential factors for the development of children's occupational aspiration. Out of the personal characteristics of school children, academic achievement, self-esteem and parental educational level that respectively belonged to the cognitive, affective and environmental domains were selected as the variables that might affect occupational aspiration. And the relationship of the variables to the level of occupational aspiration was selected as a research question of the study. The findings of the study were as follows: in relation to the level of occupational aspiration by gender, the girls were ahead of the boys. There were no statistically significant gaps in that aspect according to grade. And, the academic achievement of the elementary school students had a positive correlation to the level of their occupational aspiration, and there was no statistically significant relationship between self-esteem and the level of occupational aspiration. When academic achievement and self-esteem were selected as predictors, the two variables made a 8.5% prediction of the occupational aspiration of the fourth graders, and made a 12.3% prediction of the occupational aspiration of the sixth graders. There were no statistically significant differences in the level of occupational aspiration according to parental educational level. The fourth and sixth graders were found to have an occupational aspiration in consideration of not only the characteristics of occupations but their own academic achievement, namely their abilities.

  • A significant number of projects have been managed by US Army Corps of Engineers FED. Today, more information must be provided to the parties involved in the projects by phase than ever before. Specifically, USFK`s construction projects have been managed by FED(Far East District). Recently, however, large US private construction companies have been filling the role previously taken by FED. However, there is few construction managers to implement FED project in Korea. Accordingly, this study analyzes FED projects practices with focus on the construction management actors in order to suggest guideline. This study suggests a model FED construction process(Bid, Contract, Construction, As-Built Phase) by analyzing the existing FED project process using a IDEF0 methodology.

Cause Analysis of Cost Overruns in International Infrastructure Project Conducted by Korean Contractors (해외토목 원도급사업의 원가상승 원인에 관한 연구)

  • In recent years, large Korean construction companies have suffered serious losses in their overseas business. Many practitioners and researchers have analyzed causes of cost overrun in these projects. However, these arguments have not been empirically verified based on acutal project cases. This study investigated cost overrun rate, contingency, allowance, predicted risk before bidding, and actual and residual risk after award in the 67 international infrastructure projects conducted by 13 large construction companies. The causes of cost overruns are derived as follows. First, they identified the possibility of cost overrun to some extent before the bidding, but did not reflect the enough risk money to bid price. In particular, this behavior was more severe in badly cost-overrun projects. Second, the causes of cost overrun were more influenced by external environmental risk than internal capability risk. However, the internal risk in badly cost-overrun projects was relatively high compared to cost-underrun projects. Third, badly cost-overrun projects failed to mitigate risk. However, cost underrun projects were affected more by low exterior risk conditions than by well mitigated risk. This study provides more informed knowledge in controlling project costs in international infrastructure projects.

  • Integrated project delivery (IPD) is suggested as an alternative to traditional delivery methods such as design-build (DB), design-bid-build (DBB), and construction management at risk (CMR). Many foreign research studies have approached IPD not only in the contractual aspect but also the work implementation method aspect. However, most research projects in Korea have focused on the contractual aspect of IPD for asserting that the characteristics are the critical matter. The Korean institutional and legal system does not permit the multi-party agreement; therefore, it is difficult to adopt IPD in Korea's construction industry. The researchers do not wait the system to be changed, but we do identify the possibility of adopting IPD in Korea in the perspective of work implementation method, except the contractual characteristics. Thus, the goal of this research is to identify one project that does not include IPD agreement but utilizes other IPD characteristics whose contractual results have similar performance to those that utilize all characteristics of IPD including agreement. This research is expected to enhance performance of the construction project in a Korean construction environment by embracing IPD characteristics as overcoming limits and bounds of the traditional delivery method.

The study on performance evaluation of heat resistance and smoke control system using air-curtain system in tunnel (터널용 에어커튼 시스템의 내열 및 제연 성능 평가 연구)

  • Tunnel is a semi-closed structure similar to underground space where the smoke generated from fire fills the space fast while escaping from the space slow. Because of such characteristics, when the fire breaks out by traffic accident, the vehicles are jammed making it difficult for the people to evacuate from the scene as well as for the fire engine to gain access to the scene. For such reasons, tunnels are globally categorized into some disaster classes for differentiated facilities and operation approaches. In Korea, less than a 1 km-long tunnel accounts for 80.0% and such a short tunnel which is categorized into Class III is not required to have smoke control system. In this study, a full-scale fire test was conducted in a bid to apply air curtain system using heat-resistant sirocco fan to a less than 1 km-long tunnel. To that end, heat resistance test to verify the normal operation at $250^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes was conducted. Consequently, despite of rapid rising-temperature and increasing-carbon dioxide inside the air curtain (direction of fire in tunnel), initial condition was found to have been sustained outside the air curtain (opposite direction of fire in tunnel).

Satisfaction of Dental Hygiene Students on General Education Courses (교양과목에 대한 치위생과 학생의 만족도)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfaction level of dental hygiene students with the general education courses of the dental hygiene curriculums and their awareness of the curriculums in a bid to seek ways of improving the general education curriculums. The subjects in this study were 265 sophomores in four different colleges located in the cities of S, L and K. A self-administered survey was carried out, and the findings of the study were as follows: In terms of satisfaction level with the general education courses, they got 2.54, which was a low score. To be specific, they expressed the most satisfaction with the duplication of the courses (2.63%), followed by appropriateness (2.61%) and teaching methods (2.60%). As for links between general characteristics and satisfaction with the general education courses, the students who were more satisfied with their major were more gratified with the general education courses, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant (p<.001). The students didn't think that the general education courses they were taking were conducive to character building. Concerning connections between general characteristics and view of the general education courses, the students who were better contented with their major took a more favorable view of the general education courses, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant (p<.05). In relation to expectations for the general education courses, they asked for efficient teaching methods, competent lecturers and the kinds of general education courses that could step up self-development. Therefore the general education curriculums should discreetly be reviewed to ensure the successful and diverse implementation of the curriculums.

A Study on the Development Lightweight Aggregate using Clink Ash for Reduction in Freezing Ground (지반의 동결저감 대책기술을 수립하기 위한 클링커애쉬 인공경량골재 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study is progressed function ratio, it's trued taste by an experiment to present data for human work light weight aggregate development that use clink ash progressed liquid limit, small success limit, wear loss in quantity, sand equivalent, sieve cutting examination. 80 : 20's match of function rain examination is 1.4, and that use rubble Goljae as ckink ash lightweight aggregate's capacity ratio increases by 1.0 increase of function rain many. Also, examination multiplied delicate flavor gradually according to increase of the mixing rate, and absorption coefficient increased. This is judged by phenomenon that appear by special quality upper clink ash of polystyrene bid and porosity's increase between lightweight aggregate. It is case that use aggregate of wear loss in quantity is 13.5 in sand equivalent and a wear loss in quantity experiment and although case that mix 20% increases by 14.4, this phenomenon by weak tissue of lightweight aggergate be judge. When it's as a these experiment, the statue prevention floor of a street improvement specifications is prescribing so that satisfy by sand equivalent 20, CBR 10. This is showed result that this satisfies in quality standard all in match experiment ago that see.

A Selection Model of Suitable Tendering System for Public Construction Projects (공공건설공사의 최적 입찰방식 선정모델)

  • It is crucial In decision making to select a project delivery system (PDS) adjusted accordingly to the project characteristics. Furthermore, selecting a tendering system is the kernel in the process of selecting PDS. In October 2007, the Ministry of Finance and the Economy of Korea launched two new project delivery systems, "Best Value Contract (Design-Bid-Build)" and "Bridging Contracts (Design-Build)" by revising enforcement ordinances of "Act on Contracts to Which the State is a Party" to provoke the tendering systems. In order to support the proposed purpose, this research developed a selection model for suitable tendering system, which helps a public owner select a tendering system appropriate to the project characteristics. First, the framework of the model was set throughout analyzing previous researches and interviewing relevant experts. Additionally, by analyzing the survey result from 265 experts engaged in architectural and civil engineering business, the relative weights of the selection factors and the effectiveness values of the alternatives were suggested as the quantitative evaluation references. Finally, the practical guideline was suggested to apply this model to three public projects scheduled to be delivered. The result of applying the model to three case projects showed that further researches were needed to make the selection process logical and to suggest the standard weights and effectiveness values according to project type.

A Study on Improving Performance Bond System for Efficient Execution of Public Construction Works (효율적인 공사수행을 위한 공사이행보증제도 개선방안 연구)

  • This study analyzed problems of operating performance bond for public works and derived some suggestions for improvement. The Contract Law for Government Owner requires to submit performance bond which guarantees performing the construction contractor pays back compensation money when the obligation is not executed. Currently, first bid eligibility for participation is exactly required for executing company of performance bond obligation, not considering volume, technical level, and special type of remaining works. In collaboration contract, if guarantee accident occurs, it is obliged for remaining collaboration contractors to be qualified to fulfill the whole contract. This study proposes following improvement plan to solve problems of current performance bone in public works. Firstly, qualification criteria must be deregulated exceptionally for selecting proper contractor, which executing performance bond obligation, considering progress and characteristics of remaining works. Secondly, In collaboration contract, the prerequisite of remaining contractors' should be deregulated as 'implementation requirement of the remaining works'from'implementation requirement of the whole work'. Finally, defect responsibility should be included in liabilities of performance bond by specifying that owner or guarantee agency bear them.
