A Study on the Hierarchical Real-time Operation Control and Monitoring for an Flexible Manufacturing System (유연생산시스템의 계층구조적 실시간 운용제어 및 모니터링에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a hierarchical real-time operation control and monitoring scheme of the FMS/CIM center which has been implemented at the Automation and Systems Research Institute of Seoul National University. The hierarchical structure of the whole scheme consists of three lavers. The upper layer is in charge of on-line scheduling, computer network control, shop-floor monitoring and command generation for AGV dispatching, machining, assembly, inspection, set-up, etc. The middle layer has six modules, which are installed in the FMS host computer with the upper layer and run on the multi-tasking basis. Each module is connected to one of six cell controllers distributed in the FMS model plant and transfers operation command down to each cell controller through the Ethernet/TCP-IP local area network. The lower layer is comprised of six cell control software modules for machining cell, assembly cell, inspection cell, set-up stations. AS/RS and AGV. Each cell controller reports the status of the manufacturing facilites to the middle layer as well as ecxecuting the appropriate sequence control of the manufacturing processes.

  • Nowadays, the demand of HPI(High-speed Portable Internet) has been gradually increased to support the various services of high speed wire line internet such as xDS. HPI can support high speed internet in anyplace, anytime. For successful development of HPI, the performance should be evaluated according to the cell size and/or the number of users and cell design should be carried out based on these criteria. The previous cellular systems using CDMA technique focus on the establishment of link based on power control but HPI systems consider the QoS (Quality of Service) and its performance based on the scheduling technique. The results from the system level simulation show that the throughput is sensitive to the cell size and the number of users has little impact on it. Moreover, the variation of service delay is more sensitive to the number of users but less to the cell size.

  • The previously developed practical inquiry activity supporting tools, deduced from the design principles and implementation principles based on the study of precedent researches and theories, applicable to conceptual learning in engineering education were implemented to an on-line learning community, a web-based Windows application, to find out its effectiveness in actual classroom situation through experimental research. The On-line learning community includes the inquiry activity menu to implement learning procedure of inquiry based conceptual learning, the functions supporting the communication among participants, the information sharing function, the scheduling function of class and inquiry activity, the mentoring function, and the evaluation of on-line activities of learners. Experimental study were also conducted in order to analyze the effects of inquiry activity supporting tools on inquiry based conceptual learning in engineering education.

An Improved Online Algorithm to Minimize Total Error of the Imprecise Tasks with 0/1 Constraint (0/1 제약조건을 갖는 부정확한 태스크들의 총오류를 최소화시키기 위한 개선된 온라인 알고리즘)

  • The imprecise real-time system provides flexibility in scheduling time-critical tasks. Most scheduling problems of satisfying both 0/1 constraint and timing constraints, while the total error is minimized, are NP-complete when the optional tasks have arbitrary processing times. Liu suggested a reasonable strategy of scheduling tasks with the 0/1 constraint on uniprocessors for minimizing the total error. Song et at suggested a reasonable strategy of scheduling tasks with the 0/1 constraint on multiprocessors for minimizing the total error. But, these algorithms are all off-line algorithms. In the online scheduling, the NORA algorithm can find a schedule with the minimum total error for the imprecise online task system. In NORA algorithm, EDF strategy is adopted in the optional scheduling. On the other hand, for the task system with 0/1 constraint, EDF_Scheduling may not be optimal in the sense that the total error is minimized. Furthermore, when the optional tasks are scheduled in the ascending order of their required processing times, NORA algorithm which EDF strategy is adopted may not produce minimum total error. Therefore, in this paper, an online algorithm is proposed to minimize total error for the imprecise task system with 0/1 constraint. Then, to compare the performance between the proposed algorithm and NORA algorithm, a series of experiments are performed. As a conseqence of the performance comparison between two algorithms, it has been concluded that the proposed algorithm can produce similar total error to NORA algorithm when the optional tasks are scheduled in the random order of their required processing times but, the proposed algorithm can produce less total error than NORA algorithm especially when the optional tasks are scheduled in the ascending order of their required processing times.

  • This paper describes the development or a closed-loop Strapdown Attitude Reference System (SARS) algorithm integrated filtering estimator for determining attitude reference for railway and aviation system using fuzzy inference. The SARS consists of 3 single-axis rate gyms in conjunction with 2 single-axis accelerometers. For optimal values of fuzzy systems, we utilize on-line scheduling method for initial values and then use genetic algorithms for fine tuning. Implementation using experimental test data of unmanned aerial vehicle has been performed in order to verify the estimation. The proposed fuzzy inference based SARS demonstrate that more accurate performance can be achieved in comparison with conventional one. The estimation results were compared with the on-board vertical gyro as the reference standard.

  • This paper describes the development of a fuzzy gain scheduling scheme of PID controller for inverted pendulum system. Fuzzy rules and reasoning are utilized on-line to determine the controller parameters based on the error signal and its difference. Simulation results demonstrate that better control performance can be achieved in comparison with PID controller using pole placement to control of a Inverted pendulum.

Optimization of Glide Performance using Wind Estimator for Unpowerd Air Vehicle without Pitot-Tube (바람센서가 없는 무추력 비행체의 활공 시 대기속도 추정을 통한 유도성능 향상)

  • As designing PID control on aircraft, we consider a gain scheduling on altitude and velocity. If pitot tube is not installed in the unpowered air vehicle, the control performance is reduced by the difference between ground speed and air speed with a wind considered. In this paper, a simple guidance controller (LOS: Line of Sight) and the wind estimator using Kalman filter are designed. And we minimize the wind effect through the estimator. Finally, we perform the 6-DOF nonlinear simulation with the wind model to verify the performance of the controller with the wind estimator.

  • As the tasks of robots become more diverse, some complicated tasks have come to require force and position hybrid control. A compliant device can be used to control force and position simultaneously by separating the twist of the robot's end effector from the twist of compliance and freedom by using stiffness mapping of the compliant device. The development of a fuzzy gain scheduling scheme of control for a robot with a compliant device is described in this paper. Fuzzy rules and reasoning are performed on-line to determine the gain of twists based on wrench error and twist error and twist of compliance and twist of freedom ratio. Simulation results demonstrate that better control performance can be achieved in comparison with constant gain control.

  • In this paper, the analysis of practical end-to-end delay in worst case is performed for distributed control system considering the implementation of the system. The control system delay is composed of the delay caused by multi-task scheduling of operating system, the delay caused by network communication, and the delay caused by the asynchronous between them. Through simulation tests based on CAN(Controller Area Network), the proposed end-to-end delay in worst case is validated. Additionally, online clock synchronization algorithm is proposed here for the control system. Through another simulation test, the online algorithm is proved to have better performance than offline one in the view of network bandwidth utilization.

  • Many researchers have recommended that DBR scheduling would be an efficient method to maintain the balance of their workload among many processes in the general flow shop. However, as product variety has increased in recent years, the process has become more complex and requires the re-entrance of raw materials and work in process. The re-entrant line has known for the complex manufacturing process that raw materials are repeatedly processed on the same machine. This study reviews the applicability of DBR against the re-entrant manufacturing line due to the distinguishing characteristics and the higher complexity caused by multiple visits of a job into the identical process. In order to apply the DBR method to the re-entrant process, the main idea is to reconstruct re-entrant process into a virtual flow process(loop) that has a single bottleneck. This study discusses the following two questions. First, DBR is also superior to traditional scheduling methods against re-entrant manufacturing line. And how we structure and detect the system bottleneck (or sub-bottleneck) through drum-buffer-rope concepts. To answer the above questions, we experimented and analyzed the effects of the applicability of DBR under the general re-entrant process model(TRC, Technology Research Center). As a result, we have identified a balance between loops for cycle time and work in process.
