More than 42 000 fires occur nationwide and cause over 2500 casualties every year. There is a lack of specialized equipment, and rescue operations are conducted with a minimal number of apparatuses. Through-the-wall radars (TTWRs) can improve the rescue efficiency, particularly under limited visibility due to smoke, walls, and collapsed debris. To overcome detection challenges and maintain a small-form factor, a TTWR system-on-chip (SoC) and its architecture have been proposed. Additive reception based on coherent clocks and reconfigurability can fulfill the TTWR demands. A clock-based single-chip infrared radar transceiver with embedded control logic is implemented using a 130-nm complementary metal oxide semiconductor. Clock signals drive the radar operation. Signal-to-noise ratio enhancements are achieved using the repetitive coherent clock schemes. The hand-held prototype radar that uses the TTWR SoC operates in real time, allowing seamless data capture, processing, and display of the target information. The prototype is tested under various pseudo-disaster conditions. The test standards and methods, developed along with the system, are also presented.

This paper describes a low voltage swing bus driver using FCSR(Feedback Control Swing voltage Reduction) which can control bus swing voltage within a few hundred of mV. It is proposed to reduce power consumption in On-chip interface, especially for MDL(Merged DRAM Logic) architecture wihich has wide and large capacitance bus. FCSR operates on differential signal dual-line bus and on precharged bus with block controlling fuction. We modeled driver and bus to scale driver size automatically when bus environment is variant. We also modeled coupling capacitance noise(crosstalk) of neighborhood lines which operate on odd mode with parallel current source to analysis crosstalk effect in the victim-line according as voltage transition in the aggressor-line and environment in the victim-line. We built a test chip which was designed to swing 600mV in bus, shows 70Mhz operation at 3.3V, using Hyundai 0.8um CMOS technology. FCSR operate with 250Mhz at 3.3V by Hspice simulation.

For performance and stability of a synchronized system, we need an efficient Clock Tree Synthesis(CTS) methodology to design clock distribution networks. In a system-on-a-chip(SOC) design environment, CTS effectively distributes clock signals from clock sources to synchronized points on layout design. In this paper, we suggest the pre-layout analysis of the clock network including gated clock, multiple clock, and test mode CTS optimization. This analysis can help to avoid design failure with potential CTS problems from logic designers and supply layout constraints so as to get an optimal clock distribution network. Our new design flow including pre-layout CTS analysis and structural violation checking also contributes to reduce design time significantly.

In this paper, we designed the equalizer optimized for VDSL modem chip using QAM method. The equalizer is capable of variable constellation. The equalizer was coded using VHDL and the logic simulation was performed. The test vector were generated based on the channel environments using MATLAB.
In boundary scan architecture, test stimuli are shifted in one at a time and applied to the on-chip system logic. The test results are captured into the BSR and are examined by subsequent shifting. In this paper, we developed a continuous capture test architecture and test procedure using TPG based on boundary scan is used to performance test. In this architecture, test patterns of TPG are applied to CUT with system clock rate, and response of CUT is continuously captured by CBSR(Continuous Capture Boundary Scan Register) at the same rate and the captured results is shifted to TDO at the same rate. The suggested a continuous capture test architecture and test procedure is simulated by Altera Max+Plus 10.0. The simulation results shows the accurate operation and effectiveness of the proposed test architecture and procedure.

Scan techniques are almost mandatorily adopted in designing current System-on-a-Chip (SoC) to enhance testability, but inadvertently secret keys can be stolen through the scan test channels of crypto SoCs. An efficient scan design technique is proposed in this paper to protect the secret key of an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) core embedded in an SoC. A new instruction is added to IEEE 1149.1 boundary scan to use a fake key instead of user key, in which the fake key is chosen with meticulous care to improve the testability as well. Our approach can be implemented as user defined logic with conventional boundary scan design, hence no modification is necessary to any crypto IP core. Conformance to the IEEE 1149.1 standards is completely preserved while yielding better performance of area, power, and fault coverage with highly robust protection of the secret user key.

This paper describes the whole development phase for the underwater vehicle actuating system with high hydroload torque disturbance. This includes requirement analysis, system modeling, control algorithm design, real time implementation, test and performance evaluations. As for driving control algorithms, fuzzy logic, variable structure and PD(Proportional-Differential) algorithm were designed and implemented on board controller using a single chip microprocessor. Intel 8797. And test and performance evaluation is carried out both single test and wystem integration test. We could confirm the basic performance of actuating system through the single test and gereral developing work of any actuating systems was finished with a single performance test of actuating system without system integration test. But, we suggested that system integration test be needed. System integration test is carried out using G/C HILS(Guidance and Control Hardware-In-the -Loop Simulation) which is constituted flight motion simulator, load simulator, real time host computer and the related subsystems such as inertial navigation system, power supply system and Guidance and Control Computer etc.. The most important practical contribution of this paper is that full system characteristics such as minimal control effort, enhancement of guidance and autopilot performance by the actuating system using G/C HILS technique are investigated. Through full running G/C HILS, in spite of the passing to single tests, some control algorithm resulted in failure as to stability of full system and system time frame.

The embedded microcontroller which is operated by the logic gates synchronized on the clock pulse, is gradually used as main controller of mission-critical systems. Severe electrical situations such as high voltage/frequency surge may cause malfunctioning of the clock source. The tolerant system operation is required against the various external electric noise and means the robust design technique is becoming more important issue in system clock failure problems. In this paper, we propose on-chip backup clock change architecture for the automatic clock failure detection. For the this, we adopt the edge detector, noise canceller logic and glitch-free clock changer circuit. The implemented edge detector unit detects the abnormal low-frequency of the clock source and the delay chain circuit of the clock pulse by the noise canceller can cancel out the glitch clock. The externally invalid clock source by detecting the emergency status will be switched to back-up clock source by glitch-free clock changer circuit. The proposed circuits are evaluated by Verilog simulation and the fabricated IC is validated by using test equipment electrical field radiation noise

In this paper, presented is the result of a digital implementation of a FM stereo composite signal generator. The chip utilizing DDFS(Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer architecture is implemented using $1.0\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS gate-array technology thereby replacing analog componentry. To verify the process of generating composite signals a conventional logic simulation method was used. The processed chip was mounted on an evaluation PCB to test and analyze to signals. According to the measurement result obtained by using a 12-bit DAC, the digital FM composite signal generator produces a 74DB spectrally pure signal over its entire tuning range, which is superior to that of analog counterpart by 14dB in it spectral reponse. And further enhancements of the spectral response is expected to be achieved by using a high resolution digital to analog converter, such as a 16-bit DAC. The resulting signals is superior to the signal of the analoy circuitry typically used, in major characteristics such as S/N ratios, accuracy, tuning stability, and signal seperation.

This paper presents an efficient hardware architecture to improve the frame memory interface occupying the largest hardware area together with motion estimator in implementing MPEG-2 video encoder as an ASIC chip. In this architecture, the memory size for internal data buffering and hardware area for frame memory interface control logic are reduced through the efficient memory map organization of the external SDRAM having dual bank and memory access timing optimization between the video encoder and external SDRAM. In this design, 0.5 m, CMOS, TLM (Triple Layer Metal) standard cells are used as design libraries and VHDL simulator and logic synthesis tools are used for hardware design add verification. The hardware emulator modeled by C-language is exploited for various test vector generation and functional verification. The architecture of the improved frame memory interface occupies about 58% less hardware area than the existing architecture[2-3], and it results in the total hardware area reduction up to 24.3%. Thus, the (act that the frame memory interface influences on the whole area of the video encoder severely is presented as a result.
