Seoul 1988 Olympic Marathon Course Selection Process and the Image Strategy of the Urban Landscape (88 서울올림픽 마라톤 코스의 결정 과정과 도시 경관 이미지 전략)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the selection process of the marathon course and the progress of the related urban landscape design projects. The study revealed that the initially selected course of the downtown Namdaemum changed to the riverside course that runs around Gangnam and Han river. This change implied that showing the developed landscape of Seoul was much more considered than showing the traditional landscape of Seoul. The urban design plan had changed in 1986 after the marathon course was finalized. The development project of downtown was changed to Gangnam area including Teheran-ro. The city also redeveloped the substandard housing zones around the Olympic facilities. As a result, developed areas and modern apartments of the riverside was emphasized in international TV game broadcast. This embedded the industrialized and modernized image of Seoul to foreigners. Also, Koreans started to recognize the Han river as Seoul's representative landmark. Accordingly, Seoul succeeded in creating a modernized urban landscape image through the Olympic marathon course.

Data Envelopment Analysis on Olympic medals : Focusing on Athens Olympic Games and Torino Winter Olympic Games (올림픽 메달의 자료 포락 분석 : 아테네 하계올림픽과 토리노 동계올림픽을 중심으로)

  • This thesis analyzed that which countries won the Olympic medals more efficiently at the Olympic Games. Unlike the previous studies, I measured efficiency under the CRS, found implications for investment to improve sports skills through understanding the characteristics of sports race. A methods for research is a DEA-based approach which measures efficiency by using the data only, not assuming the parameters. The inputs are total population and GDP, the output is Olympic medals at 2004 Athens Olympic Games and 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games. I applied different weights based on the medal colors. The results showed the tendencies that the larger the scales of total population and GDP were, the lower efficient values were. These tendencies imply that sports skills are related with the law of diminishing returns and international convergence. According to these phenomenons, surging investments for sports performance are hard to get proper justification. In the case of limited resources, investing uniformly in various sport entries is more productive than in just one or two sport entries.

A Study on Selection of Effective Engineering Design Problem based on LEGO Mindstorm NXT for Basic Design Education (레고 마인드스톰 NXT를 활용한 기초설계 교과목에서의 효과적인 공학설계과제 선정방안 연구)

  • This paper deals with the selection method of effective engineering design problem based on LEGO Mindstorm NXT for basic design education. By YouTube case study of various LEGO-based engineering designs for olympic sports, performance criteria have been developed including programming complexity, structural complexity, sensor/actuator complexity and variety of game operation. Programming complexity includes range of programming code length and possible program variety. Structural complexity includes variety of structural elements such as length, shape, weight, and volume to overcome design restrictions. Sensor/actuator complexity includes variety of sensor used and number of possible actuator assemblies. Variety of game operation includes game complexity and required creativity to make LEGO robots. Based on these performance criteria, four representative sports were selected as the candidates for effective engineering design problem. Finally, feasibility and attributes of each candidate were verified by real implementation examples.

The Effects of Sports Game Outcomes on Spectators' Ad Recall and the Moderating Role of Suspense (스포츠경기 결과가 광고효과에 미치는 영향과 서스펜스의 조절효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of sports game outcomes on spectators' Ad recall, and the sports game induced suspense was also investigated for its moderating effects between the variables. On the day after the 2012 London Olympic soccer games, university students (N=257) from the Busan area completed questionnaires and MANOVA was utilized for data analysis. Results of this study revealed that outcome of sports game have significant effects on recall of both brand name and contents which aired during a halftime break. In addition, significant moderating effects of sports game induced suspense were found on brand name and contents recall. Based on the results, some suggestions for marketing practitioners are discussed and future research directions are outlined.

  • As expectations about success of smart phones that install Android, an open mobile platform which was developed by Google, are increasing, the development of applications based on the Android has attracted a lot of interest. Especially, game applications have been well received by users. In this paper, we develop an application based on the Android for curling which was adopted as a competitive sport in the Winter Olympic Games. Curling is a sport game played by two teams. The rules of the game are simple, but it is an intelligent one that requires various strategies for victory. In this paper, the curling game based on the Android provides functions, such as pitching, sweeping, collision, and foul handling, that are required in real curling game by using technologies, such as touch screen or accelerometer sensor.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze developed case of archiving on Mega Sport Event for searching effective method on a documentation of Mega Sport Event. In order to conduct this study, literature review method was using about book, thesis and data of internet homepage for exploring the stage on Mega Sports Event and case of Mega Sports Event record management. The field study was conducted about institute related to Olympic record management institution for analysing Mega Sports Event record management. The result of this study is following: Firstly, 2012London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games's case(The People's Record Project) is useful to ex-ante event phase. Secondly, 2000Sydney Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games's case(Olympic Games Knowledge Management Project) is useful to event operation phase. Thirdly. LA84Foundation's case(Olympic Oral History Project) is useful to ex-post event. The significance of this study which came up with the study result above can be presented as follows. Based on the result of this study, it is assumed that three case for documentation about Mega Sports Event. Lastly, the result of this study was useful to Mega Sports Event record management institution. For the more, it will be conducted to study law of Mega Sport Event record management, humane and Material resource and method related to record management of the Mega Sports Event organizing committee.

Analysis of the Recent Trend of National Background PM10 Concentrations over Korea, China, and Japan (한·중·일 PM10 국가 배경농도 최근 경향 분석)

  • The goal of this research is to examine the recent decade-long (2000~2014) trends of national background concentrations over China, Japan, and Korea. Based on the Long-range Transboundary Air Pollutants in Northeast Asia (LTP) project, which is three-party collaboration project among three countries, we investigated the long-term trends of national background $PM_{10}$ concentrations in three countries over the recent 15 years, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Game period. In accordance with the agreement among three countries, a total of 8 national background sites: three national background monitoring sites in China (2 sites in Dalian, and 1 in Xiamen), three sites in Korea (Ganghwa, Gosan, and Taean), and two sites in Japan (Oki and Rishiri), were chosen for the trend analysis. The results showed that Chinese background concentration recorded the highest level overall. However, the rapid declining recent trends of annual median ($50^{th}$-percentile) values were surprisingly detected since 2006 or 2007 in every site in China, with the most rapidly decreasing rate (- $18.6{\pm}10.3%$/year) over 2006~2007, and the second most rapidly decreasing rate (- $18.0{\pm}1.5%$/year) over 2007~2008. Based on the previous statistical literature, we concluded that this declining trends were due to the emission reduction of $PM_{10}$ concentrations in China for 2008 Beijing Olympic Game. In Korea, Ganghwa was also showing the decreasing trends over the recent years since 2006, which is also well accorded with the decreasing period of Chinese background concentrations. Taean also implied some impact of Beijing Olympic Game, showing small but detectable decreasing trends, while Gosan showed the increasing tendencies probably due to the near-urban influences. However, since 2012, most sites in both China and Korea showed strong increasing trends, undoubtedly implying the increasement of both emission in China and its long-range transport process toward Korea. Two sites in Japan, Oki and Rishiri recorded the lowest level of $PM_{10}$ level during whole period with the smallest deviations of measurements. Other discussions including the decade-long trends of $5^{th}$, $10^{th}$, $25^{th}$, $50^{th}$, $75^{th}$, $90^{th}$, $95^{th}$-percentiles of $PM_{10}$ background concentrations in three countries were also comparatively addressed here.

  • 이 글은 본인이 1982년 9월부터 11월까지 약 2개월간 일본 자치성 소방연구소에서 연수중에 지도 받은 내용으로서 고층건물 등 대형건물에서 화재의 조기 감지 및 오동작억제에 많은 문제점이 대두되고 있어 동 연구소의 죽원소부씨와 도변창부씨가 공동 연구한 결과이다. 연기감지기의 작동에 영향을 미치는 연소 생성물에 대한 근본적인 연구 결과는 우리나라도 '86 Asian Game 및 '88 Olympic 등을 대비한 대형 Hotel등의 조기 화재 경보 체제를 위해 많은 도움이 될 것으로 사료되어 소개한다.

Decision Analysis for Selecting World Cup Football Game Main Stadium in Korea (의사결정기법을 이용한 월드컵 주경기장 선정)

  • This study is concerned with the selection of the main stadium for the World Cup football game to be held in Korea in 2002. Alternatives are (1) new construction of the main stadium at Sangam; (2) and remodeling Jamsil stadium constructed for Olympic in 1988; remodeling Munhak stadium in Inchon. For comparison purpose, we consider four decision attributes (environmental, economy. political and technical factors) under which several detailed sub-attributes are defined. Various multi-criteria decision-making tools such as AHP and TOPSIS are applied to find the best location. Our study results indicate that the best selection is remodeling Jamsil stadium. This appears due to heavy emphasis on economy factor in our analysis.

  • It is required impressive expression of urban night environment that makes city as the safe pleasant, convenient place for the economic activity, cultural pleasure and landmarks. This study aims to establish the proper direction to the outdoor lighting in Seoul by analyzing and comparing the lighting situation and policies among Seoul, Shanghai and Yokohama. 1986 Asian Game and 1988 Olympic Game became very important role of activation of outdoor lighting in Korea. Then, outdoor lighting were facilitated in the cultural heritages and bridges along Han river. Millenium Light Plan, Outdoor Lighting Field of Seoul Architectural Award, 2002 Lightscape Local Plan, hosting 2002 World Cup have been good opportunities for the improvement of outdoor lighting in Seoul. In China, outdoor lighting was introduced to the city of Shanghai according to the orders of the president in 1988. Outdoor lighting of Shanghai have created unique lighting with beautiful color and intensive brightness under the direction of city government. Outdoor lighting of Shanghai needs the standard of lighting design and improvement of lighting facilities. Outdoor lighting was introduced to Japan with 1964 Tokyo Olympic games. Urban outdoor lighting plan was carried out in Yokohama in 1986. In Yokohama, outdoor lighting of civilian and public facilities have been harmonized. And the city government of Yokohama established the committee of promotion of outdoor lighting in its government to support and manage the outdoor lighting with corporation of civilian organization. As the result of comparative analysis on Seoul, Shanghai, Yokohama, Seoul Metropolitan Government needs the criteria and incentive system of outdoor lighting.
