AIS is the most important navigation equipment for the identification of other ships, etc. However, the AIS overload problem has been raised recently due to an increase in AIS equipped vessels. The government is planning to introduce the wireless LTE network at 100 km offshore as part of the SMART-Navigation project. Continuous development and dissemination of the services available through such platforms will be necessary to achieve major goals such as marine accident prevention and environmental protection. In this study, we applied a WAVE communication system, which could be the basis for the development of such services. As a result, reliable data transmission was confirmed for a range of communication of approx. 5 miles, although the service was limited to 1 km in road traffic. Therefore, it is expected that WAVE communication technology will be used to prevent marine accidents through such efforts as collision avoidance and the transfer of marine safety information between ships.

The purpose of this study is to develop a Smart Helmet to safeguard forest firefighting crews and provide on-site information in real time. The Smart Helmet for forest firefingting crews is equipped with a camera, video/voice communication module, GPS, Bluetooth, and LTE module to promote the safety of them, and through the Smart Helmet, the site situation is is transmitted in real time, and full duplex communication is possible. As a result of testing using the Smart Helmet, the control center was able to receive on-site information and communication with on-site forest firefighting crews. Through site evaluation and user evaluation, it was confirmed that the Smart Helmet needs to be improved. The developed Smart Helmet can be used in various ways in forest disasters and forest industry.
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) gradually becomes a technique for ensuring the health and safety of civil infrastructures and is also an important approach for the research of the damage accumulation and disaster evolving characteristics of civil infrastructures. It is attracting prodigious research interests and the active development interests of scientists and engineers because a great number of civil infrastructures are planned and built every year in mainland China. In a SHM system the sheer number of accompanying wires, fiber optic cables, and other physical transmission medium is usually prohibitive, particularly for such structures as offshore platforms and long-span structures. Fortunately, with recent advances in technologies in sensing, wireless communication, and micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS), wireless sensor technique has been developing rapidly and is being used gradually in the SHM of civil engineering structures. In this paper, some recent advances in the research, development, and implementation of wireless sensors for the SHM of civil infrastructures in mainland China, especially in Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), are introduced. Firstly, a kind of wireless digital acceleration sensors for structural global monitoring is designed and validated in an offshore structure model. Secondly, wireless inclination sensor systems based on Frequency-hopping techniques are developed and applied successfully to swing monitoring of large-scale hook structures. Thirdly, wireless acquisition systems integrating with different sensing materials, such as Polyvinylidene Fluoride(PVDF), strain gauge, piezoresistive stress/strain sensors fabricated by using the nickel powder-filled cement-based composite, are proposed for structural local monitoring, and validating the characteristics of the above materials. Finally, solutions to the key problem of finite energy for wireless sensors networks are discussed, with future works also being introduced, for example, the wireless sensor networks powered by corrosion signal for corrosion monitoring and rapid diagnosis for large structures.

We recently developed new offshore observation system using USN buoy, widely used to measure the directional properties of ocean wave, seawater temperature, UV light, longitude and latitude of the buoy using GPS module. This paper also documents the development and implementation of a buoy network for acquisition of data of base station with buoys. The major phases of the project include specification of the network, physical construction of network nodes, software development for control of nodes, and testing of network performance. We described some of the practical issues involved in designing, building and deploying a buoy network for oceanographic monitoring. The paper explains some of the design decisions and their consequences, and some of the lessons learned from a first lesson network trial at sea.
In this paper, we develop real-time monitoring system to detect third-party damage on natural gas pipeline by using sound propagation model. Since many third-party incidents cause damage that does not lead to immediate rupture but can grow with time, the developed real-time monitoring system can execute a significant role in reducing many third-party damage incidents. The developed system is composed of three steps as follows: i) DSP based system, ii) wireless communication system, iii) the calculation and monitoring software to detect the position of third-party damage using the propagation speed of acoustic wave. Furthermore, the developed system was set at practical offshore pipeline between two islands in Korea and it has been operating in real time.

Remotely operated vehicle(ROV) and autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV) have been used for underwater surveys, underwater exploration, resource harvesting, offshore plant maintenance and repair, and underwater construction. It is hard for people to work in the deep sea. Therefore, we need a vision control system of underwater submersible that can replace human eyes. However, many people have difficulty in developing a deep-sea image control system due to the deep sea special environment such as high pressure, brine, waterproofing and communication. In this paper, we will develop an Ethernet based remote image control system that can control the image mounted on ROV.

On July 5, 2016, offshore magnitude 5.0 earthquake, Ulsan, Republic of Korea can anxiety not safe in the earthquake. The gas smell that occurred in Busan on July 20, 2016 did not understand a cause and spread by the ghost story for the earthquake to a citizen. Thus correct information about the disaster is important to the smart city and the quick correspondence for damage inhabitants and the community has an influence on the disaster resilience. This study is targeted for damage inhabitants, and it clarifies the importance of the evocation model of anxiety about the disaster in the smart city with social technology. In the case of the Great East Japan Earthquake, consider the self-help contents of Kamaishi-city inhabitants deeply and find out a proper application method. As a means of disaster response and recovery, suggest that the inhabitants and community will be able to practice self-help measures.
In this paper, we develop a real time monitoring system to detect third-party damage on natural gas pipeline. When the damage due to third-party incidents causes an immediate rupture, the developed on-line monitoring system can help reducing the sequences of event at once. Moreover, since many third-party incidents cause damage that does not lead to immediate rupture but can grow with time, the developed on-line monitoring system can execute a significant role in reducing many third-party damage incidents. Also, when the damage is given at a point on natural gas pipeline, the acoustic wave is propagated very fast about 421.3 m/s. Therefore, the data processing time should be very short in order to detect precisely the impact position. Generally, the pipeline is laid under ground or sea and the length is very long. So a wireless data communication method is recommendable and the sensing positions are limited by laid circumstance and setting cost of sensors. The calculation and monitoring software is developed by an algorithm using the propagation speed of acoustic wave and data base system based on wireless communication and DSP systems. The developed monitoring system is examined by field testing at Balan pilot plant, KOGAS being done in order to demonstrate its validity through reactive detection of third-party contact with pipelines. Furthermore, the development system was set at the practical pipelines such as an offshore pipeline between two islands Yul-Do and Youngjong-Do, and a land branch of Pyoungtaek, Korea and it has been operating in real time.

Recently, the ocean field researches such as offshore plant, ocean survey and underwater monitoring systems are garnering the attention from both academy and industry. However, the communication in underwater environment is very difficult because of the unique irregular features in water. This is the reason that the application of terrestrial protocols to the water environment is not proper. This paper proposes a routing algorithm that can enhance communication reliability by utilizing channel properties in underwater environment. We address two problems that lead to the poor communication performance, signal attenuation and multi-path problem in water. Overcoming these problems, the proposed algorithm ensures high packet delivery ratio and low transmission delay. Also, this paper evaluates the performance through simulation.
