To study the eruption process of the permanent tooth, esp., 1st molar, the author took 303 cases of oblique cephalogram (Male. 162 cases, Female: 141 cases) from age 3 to 8 yea old children, and observed the vertical change and axial change. The result were as follow:
1. The mesial end of upper 1st molar was closer to the occlusal plane than the distal, and they were erupting toward the occlusal plane by aging. In the case of lower 1st molar, the distal end was closer to the occlusal plane than the mesial and the occlusion showed the tendency to accord with the plane to be settled by aging.
2. Eruption rate of the upper and lower 1st permanent molar increased rapidly at 5 or 6 years of age.
3. Axial inclination of lower 1st permanent molar to the mandibular plane decreased gradually from 3 years of age, except for 6 years of age. There was some increase at 5 or 6 years of age.
The author measured and analyzed the condyle path inclinations of 25 normal Korean adults roentgeno-cephalometrically and following conclusions were obtained. In protrusive movement of mandible, the angle of condyle pation inclination in relation to
1) occlusal plane is 19.86±8.25,
2) Frankfort Horizontal plane is 28.32±8.56,
3) Camper line is 12.22±4.06,
4) Nasion-sella line is 36.80±8.54.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference and relationship between the slope of articular eminence and the inclination of upper and lower incisor teeth, which are related to the functional stability of occlusion in mandibular protrusion, according to Ricketts' facial types, by the use of lateral cephalogram and SAM2 articulator in 68-adult normal occlusion without tooth missing, orthodontic treatment and occlusal equilibration. The results of this study were as follows : 1 . The angle of articular eminence slope to occlusal plane in brachyfacial type was steeper than that in dolichofacial type, but the angle of articular eminence slope to SN plane and FH plane was not different between facial types. 2. The upper incisor axis in dolichofacial type was steeper than that in brachyfacial type, but lingual surface slope of upper incisor was not different between facial types. 3. In all samples there was a positive correlation between the angle of articular eminence slope and the lingual surface slope of upper incisor to SN plane and FH plane, and in mesofacial type there was a positive correlation between the angle of articular eminence slope and the lingual surface slope of upper incisor to SN plane, FH plane and occlusal plane, and in brachyfacial type there was a positive correlation between the angle of articular eminence slope and the lingual surface slope of upper incisor to occlusal plane. 4. In all samples there was a positive correlation between the angle of articular eminence slope and the angle of Dc-Gn to SN plane, and in mesofacial type there was a positive correlation between the angle of articular eminence slope and the angle of Dc-Gn to occlusal plane, and in brachyfacial type there was a positive correlation between the angle of articular eminence slope and the angle of Dc-Gn to SN plane and FH plane. 5. In all samples there was a positive correlation between the angle of Dc-Gn and the lingual surface slope of upper incisor to SN plane and FH plane, and in mesofacial type there was a positive correlation between the angle of Dc-Gn and the lingual surface slope of upper incisor to SN plane. 6. This study was done using the 45° oblique lateral old, 18 males and 27 females, with normal occlusion, premolars and molars on upper and lower jaws. Axial inclination to nasal floor, occlusal plane and inter-axial inclination were examined. In addition the position of each tooth was examined in height and depth in upper and lower jaws. The results were obtained as follows; 1. The inclination of long axis of upper 1st premolar was most nearly perpendicular, upper canine was tilted mesially, and 2nd premolar and molars were tilted distally. 2. The inclination of long axis of lowers molar were tilted mesially. 3. There were no severe variation on the inter-axial inclination of canine to mandibular plane, and 2nd molar.
This study was investigated to assess the difference of facial height and occlusal plane inclination between pre- and post-treatment in Class I malocclusion group The subjects consisted of 35 extraction patients and 30 nonextraction patient,;, and was subdivided into Group I(overbite<0mm), Group II(04mm) in reference to overbite, and adolescent group and adult group in reference to age. Lateral cephalogram was taken with standard method, traced, and digitized for each subject. The computerized statistical analysis was carried out with SAS program The results wolf as follows. 1. In both groups of extraction and nonextraction group the anterior facial height increased after orthodontic treatment but there was no significant difference(p>0.05) between each goup. 2. There was no statstical significance in change of occlusal plane inclination in adolescent group, but significant difference(p<0.05) among three subgroup in adult group. 3. In adolescent-extraction and adolescent-nonextraction group there was significant increase of anterior facial height and posterior facial height, and was superior to adult groups in posterior facial height increment. 4 In all groups upper and lower molars were uprighted to occlusal plane. This had statistically significant effect.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to find changes in the occlusal plane related to different vertical facial patterns and suggest treatment goals and conduct possible treatment mechanisms. Methods: 60 adult patients (28 males, 32 females) who had been diagnosed as Class 1 skeletal malocclusion and treated without extraction were selected. Patients were divided into three groups; short face type (group 1), average face type (group 2) and long face type (group 3), using the data on normal occlusion of Korean adults. Results: The results were achieved by analyzing cephalometric tracings of each group at pre-treatment, end-treatment and post-treatment (about 1 year recall check). The inclination of the occlusion plane tends to gradually increase as the face becomes longer In group 1, COP-X, FOP-X, L6/L1, MP-L6 were significantly decreased, and L1-FOP was significantly increased during the retention period (T3-T2). Group 2 showed no significant change, In group 3, FOP-X was significantly increased during the retention period (T3-T2). During the retention period, FOP-X showed significant change among each group, especially between group 1 and group 3. Conclusion: These results suggest that changes of occlusal plane inclination according to facial vertical pattern need to be considered during the retention period for intrusion, extrusion, and incisor overbite.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compensatory changes of occlusal plane angle in relation to skeletal factors. Lateral cephalograms of 61 adults with normal occlusion and 92 adults with skeletal malocclusions were traced and measured to analyze skeletal factors and occlusal plane angles. In terms of horizontal relationships, the normal occlusion group and malocclusion group were classified Into subgroups of skeletal Classes I, II, and III, while in terms of vertical relationships, each group was also classified into horizontal , average, and vertical subgroups. Some measurements were evaluated statistically by ANOVA and Post Hoc, and the others were reviewed by Paired t-tests. In this study, only the occlusal plane angle to AB plane did not show a significant difference between the normal occlusion group and malocclusion group. After treatment, the occlusal plane angle to the AB plane of the malocclusion group was approximated to that of normal occlusion group. The LOP to AB plane angle of the normal occlusion group was 91.7 in skeletal Class I, 88.8 in skeletal Class II, and 93.5 in skeletal Class III. This study was done to assess the treatment changes of the occlusal plane in the malocclusion group, and to draw a comparison with the normal occlusion group in order to present a reference to establish a new occlusal plane inclination.
This study was undertaken to grope the correlation of the maximal bite force and tooth-craniofacial structure. The maximal bite force of 76 adult male, aged 18-28 (mean aged: $23.4{\pm}2.2$) years, was estimated and cephalometric headplates were measured, tabulated and statistically analyzed. The results were as follows. 1. 59.61kg of bite force in first molar, 45.38kg in premolar and 17.10kg in central incisor were arranged. 2. The bite force was negatively correlated to genial angle, mandibular plane angle, the angle between occlusal plane and mandibular plane, the angle between palatal plane and mandibular plane, and positively correlated to posterior height of face, length of mandibular body, length of ramus, facial depth in craniofacial structure. 3. The group with strong bite force showed small genial angle, mandibular plane angle, the angle between occlusal plane and mandibular plane, the angle between palatal plane and mandibular plane, and long posterior height of face, length of mandibular body, length of ramus, facial depth. So they manifested the tendency to brachycephalic pattern, on the other hand, the group with weak bite force manifested the tendency to dolichocephalic pattern. 4. There is no correlationships between bite force and mesial inclination of premolar axis in this subject. 5. It is considered bite force have an effect upon craniofacial pattern, especially upon the lower face.

The Twin Blocks technique was developed by Dr. William Clark of Scotland during the early 1980's. Twin Blocks are an uncomplicated system that incorporates the use of upper and lower bite blocks. These blocks reposition the mandible and redirect occlusal forces to achieve rapid correction of malocclusions. They are also comfortable and the patients wear them full-time-inducing eating time. Occlusal forces transmitted through the dentition provide a constant proprioceptive stimulus to influence the rate of growth and the trabecular structure of the supporting bone. The features of Twin Blocks mean easier and quicker treatment. The occlusal inclined plane is the fundamental functional mechanism of the natural dentition. Twin blocks are bite blocks that effectively modify the occlusal inclined plane to induce favorably directed occlusal forces by causing a functional mandibular displacement. Upper and lower bite blocks interlock at a $45^{\circ}$ angle and are designed for full-time wear to take advantage of all functional forces applied to the dentition including the forces of mastication. The patients who were treated with modified Twin Blocks, and following results were observed: 1. Large overjet and deep overbite were corrected. 2. Class II molar relationship was changed into Class I. 3. Labial inclination of upper incisors was corrected by adjustment of labial bow of upper bite block. 4. The profiles of two patients were improved by anterior displacement of mandible.
The stable occlusion in function is thought as important as the esthetics in form, in order to preserve the healthy oral condition. The stable occlusion requires the harmony between the condylar guidance factors and the anterior guidance factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quantitative relationship between the condylar guidance factors and the anterior guidance factors, estimating statistically the measurement of the condylar paths by Pantronic and those of the anterior guidance factors, craniofacial morphology by roentgenocephalometry in 46 relatively good functional occlusion. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The measurements of the protrusive condylar path inclinations were $36.41^{\circ}$ in the right, $35.63^{\circ}$ in the left, $36.28^{\circ}$ in the mean. The measurements of Fisher's angles were $8.17^{\circ}$ in the right, $6.43^{\circ}$ in the left, $6.87^{\circ}$ in the mean. 2. The anterior facial height and the lower anterior facial height made a negative correlation with the protrusive condylar path inclination. 3. The articular eminence angle relative to the artificial articulator plane showed a positive correlation with the maximum protrusive condylar path. 4. SNA and SNB made a negative correlation with the articular eminence angle, and AAP-GoMe, AAP-DcGn, the facial height ratio had a positive correlation with the articular eminence angle. 5. The angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope, overbite and the ratio of overbite to overiet showed a positive correlation with the articular eminence angle. 6. The angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope , overbite, and the ratio of overbite to overjet made a positive correlation with the inclination of occlusal plane, functional occlusal plane. 7. Overbite and the ratio of overbite to overjet had a positive correlation with the angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope. 8. The anterior guidance factors were more influenced by the mean protrusive condylar path inclination and the maximum Fisher's angle, and the regression equations of those were made.
