The objective of this study is to suggest a method for estimating rainfall-runoff relationship using runoff analysis with satellite rainfall and global geographic data for the region due to lack of observed data. This study uses CMORPH and GSMaP_NRT as satellite rainfall data, and GTOPO30 and GLCC as global geographic data. IFAS is used for runoff modeling. In the evaluation of rainfall data, the correlation coefficients of CMORPH and GSMaP_NRT with observed data are 0.37 and 0.30 respectively. Calculated peak runoffs using IFAS show small relative errors with observed data in case of parameters are not calibrated with satellite rainfall data. Therefore, the methods suggested in this study could be applied to ungauged watershed. In the future, this study will analyze runoff for North Korea, a representative inaccessible region, using satellite rainfall and global geographic data.
This study proposes a method to generate runoff ensemble members using a rainfall-runoff model based on the shot noise process (hereafter the rainfall-runoff model). The proposed method was applied to generate runoff ensemble members for three drainage basins of Daerim 2, Guro 1 and the Jungdong, whose results were then compared with the observed. The parameters of the rainfall-runoff model were estimated using the empirical formulas like the Kerby, Kraven II and Russel, also the concept of modified rational formula. Gamma and exponential distributions were used to generate random numbers of the parameters of the rainfall-runoff model. Especially, the gamma distribution is found to be useful to generate various random numbers depending on the pre-assigned relationship between mean and standard deviation. Comparison between the generated runoff ensemble members and the observed shows that those runoff ensemble members generated using the gamma distribution with its standard deviation twice of the mean properly cover the observed runoff.

This research seeks to derive the design rainfalls through the L-moment with the test of homogeneity, independence and outlier of data on annual maximum daily rainfall in 38 Korean rainfall stations. To select the fit appropriate distribution of annual maximum daily rainfall data according to rainfall stations, applied were Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), Generalized Logistic (GLO) and Generalized Pareto (GPA) probability distributions were applied. and their aptness was judged Dusing an L-moment ratio diagram and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test, the aptitude was judged of applied distributions such as GEV, GLO and GPA. The GEV and GLO distributions were selected as the appropriate distributions. Their parameters were estimated Targetingfrom the observed and simulated annual maximum daily rainfalls and using Monte Carlo techniques, the parameters of GEV and GLO selected as suitable distributions were estimated and. dDesign rainfallss were then derived, using the L-moment. Appropriate design rainfalls were suggested by doing a comparative analysis of design rainfall from the GEV and GLO distributions according to rainfall stations.

Slope failure triggered by rainfall produces severe effects on the serviceability and stability of railway. Therefore slope stability problem is one of the major concerns on the operation of railway. In this study we collected rainfall data when and where slope failures were observed. The collected data show that the range of cumulative rainfall is from 150 to 500mm and the rainfall duration is about 3 to 24 hours. By using the collected rainfall information, slope stability analysis considering infiltration was carried. The analyses employs multiple sliding surfaces to find the minimal factor of safety in the infinite slope condition. This approach show more reasonable results than the results from analysis following the design code which assumes that groundwater level and the slope surface are equal.
Analyses of Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) microwave radiometer (TMI) and precipitation radar (PR) data show that the rainfall inhomogeneity, represented by the coefficient of variation, decreases as rain rate increases at the low resolution (the footprint size of TMI 10 GHz channel). The rainfall inhomogeneity, however, is relatively constant for all rain rates at the high resolution (the footprint size of TMI 37 GHz channel). Consequently, radiometric signatures at lower spatial resolutions are characterized by larger dynamic range and smaller variability than those at higher spatial resolution. Based on the observed characteristics, this study develops a low-resolution (${\sim}40{\times}40$ km) rainfall retrieval algorithm utilizing realistic rainfall distributions in the a-priori databases. The purpose of the low-resolution rainfall algorithm is to make more reliable climatological rainfalls from various microwave sensors, including low-resolution radiometers.

To select the appropriate distribution of annual maximum daily rainfall data by the rainfall stations, Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), Generalized Logistic (GLO), Generalized Pareto (GPA), Generalized Normal (GNO) and Pearson Type 3 (PT3) probability distributions were applied and their aptness were judged using an L-moment ratio diagram and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test. Parameters of appropriate distributions were estimated from the observed and simulated annual maximum daily rainfall using Monte Carlo techniques. Design rainfalls were finally derived by GEV distribution, which was proved to be more appropriate than the other distributions.

Evaluating interpolated rainfall uncertainty of hydrological models caused by different interpolation methods for basins where can not fully collect rainfall data are necessary. In this study, the adaptive MCMC method under effects of ILFs was used to analyze the interpolated rainfall uncertainty of the SURR model for Gunnam basin, Korea. Three events were used to calibrate and one event was used to validate the posterior distributions of unknown parameters. In this work, the performance of four ILFs on uncertainty of interpolated rainfall was assessed. The indicators of p_factor (percentage of observed streamflow included in the uncertainty interval) and r_factor (the average width of the uncertainty interval) were used to evaluate the uncertainty of the simulated streamflow. The results showed that the uncertainty bounds illustrated the slight differences from various ILFs. The study confirmed the importance of the likelihood function selection in the application the adaptive Bayesian MCMC method to the uncertainty assessment of the SURR model caused by interpolated rainfall.
In recent, the various methods to predict the hydrological impacts due to climate change have been developed and applied. Especially the trend analysis using observed and future hydrological data has been performed than ever. Parametric or non-parametric tests can be applied for a trend analysis. However, the non-parametric tests have been commonly used in the case of trend analysis using hydrological data. Therefore, the two types of non-parametric tests, Mann-Kendall (MK) test and Spearman Rho (SR) test, were used to detect the trend in the observed and future rainfall data that were collected from the Nakdong River basin. Also, the Pre-Whitening (PW) and the Trend Free Pre-Whitening (TFPW) as the pre-process of the trend analysis were performed. Also, the result of trend analysis suggest that those pre-processes have a statistically significant effect. Additionally, the Sequential Mann-Kendall (SMK) was used to reveal the beginning point of a trend in the observed and future rainfall data in the Nakdong River basin. The rainfall patterns in most rainfall gauges using the observed rainfall show the increasing trend and the abrupt changes in the specific months (from April to May and September to October). Also, the beginning point of the trend is brought forward by several months when climate change is accelerated. Finally, the results of this study can provide the useful background for the research related to climate change and water resources planning in the Nakdong River basin.

This study was performed to analyse the rainfall and the rainfall-runoff characteristics of a rural watershed. The Sangwha basin($105.9km^{2}$) in the Geum river system was selected for this study. The arithmetic mean method, the Thiessen's weighing method, and the isohyetal method were used to analyse areal rainfall distribution and the Huff's quartile method was used to analyse temporal rainfall distribution. In addition, daily runoff analyses were peformed using the DAWAST and tank model. In the model calibration, the data from June through November, 1999 were used. In the model calibration, the observed runoff depth was 513.7mm and runoff rate was 45.2%, and the DAWAST model simulated runoff depth was 608.6mm and runoff rate was 53.5%, and the tank model runoff depth was 596.5mm and runoff rate was 52.5%, respectively. In the model test, the data from June through November, 2000 were used. In the model test, the observed runoff depth was 1032.3mm and runoff rate was 72.5%, and the DAWAST model simulated runoff depth was 871.6mm and runoff rate was 61.3%, and the tank model runoff depth was 825.4mm and runoff rate was 58%, respectively. The DAWAST and tank model's $R^{2}$ and RMSE were 0.85, 3.61mm, and 0.85, 2.77mm in 1999, and 0.83, 5.73mm, and 0.87, 5.39mm in 2000, respectively. Both models predicted low flow runoff better than flood runoff.
