  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate strategies for the attraction of Korean finns into EU Objective 1 (less prosperous region).2(regions facing structural difficulties or conversion) on the basis of Korean foreign direct investment in the European Union(EU) in the past 10 years (the late 1980s-late 1990s). Of such strategies the most important was incentive packages for Korean finns by those regions. Nonetheless, these packages did not contribute to the development of the finns and regions because of limits to the finns' competitiveness(cost competitiveness) and the regions' competitiveness(low productivity and skills). Consequently, these strategies of EU Objective 1.2 regions did not provide an opportunity for pathways to successful development because the incentive packages provided to the finns and regions without the consideration of their internal and external circumstances.

  • Purpose: This study tried to identify changes in family burden after the introduction of the long-term care insurance and to examine the factors influencing subjective and objective caring burden and depression of family caregivers of elders receiving home-based long-term care. Methods: Data were collected from 203 family caregivers of elders from August 1 to 31, 2015 using questionnaires. They were analyzed in descriptive statistics, t test, ANOVA test, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean score of depression was 7.24, which suggested mild depression level. The subjective family burden was 2.71 and the objective burden 3.04. The factors affecting depression included subjective burden (t=5.08, p<.001), objective burden (t=2.80, p=.006), time of elderly care per day (t=-3.61, p< .001), caregiving duration (t=3.33, p=.001), age (t=3.13, p=.002), family relationship (t=2.48, p=.014), and economic status (t=1.99, p=.047). Conclusion: The family burden was most important influencing factor on caregiver's depression. Therefore, services and supports to alleviate caregivers' burden in the home-based care should be added to long-term care.

  • The objective and subjective burden was evaluated toward 115 main caregivers in the family with schizophrenic patient by interview with structured questionnaire and self-report using Family Burden Scale (FBS) of family with schizophrenic patient in Korea. The results were as follows : 1) The mean age of onset by schizophrenic patient were 23 years old in male and 26 in female. 2) The mean scales of objective and subjective burden were 1.5 and 1.6. 3) By Logistic regression objective burden was significantly affected by family support (P<0.001), religion (P<0.05), occupation (P<0.05). 4) Subjective burden was significantly affected by family support (P<0.01) and family total income (P<0.05). 5) Total objective and subjective burden was significantly affected by family support (P<0.001), religion (P<0.05). In conclusion, this study suggests that main caregivers need family support from other family members. For them religion and social support are also helpful to cope with the burden to take care of the schizophrenic patients.

  • This study was intended to evaluate the objective landscape of rural region using an additive integration index method in the Seondong region of Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Korea. This study consisted of the following three steps. First, this study developed an additive integration index calculation model for landscape assessment based on indicators and weight to each space type in accordance with three landscape fields which were developed by the expert Delphi method. Second, this study used NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and permeable area rate, which were available from high resolution satellite image, to calculate the green naturality degree, area rate, and building coverage respectively. Third, this study has calculated the landscape assessment index of rural regions using an additive integration index method made of assessment data and weight for each indicator. This study has found the following results: 1) landscape level was very poor in all 6 types of space, marking grade five; 2) while the highest level of natural landscape and mixed landscape was grade two, that of artificial landscape was grade five; 3) based on objective landscape, grade five showed the highest frequency, and grade one, two, three, and four followed in that order.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess insomnia and the quality of sleep, investigate the concordance between objective and self-report sleep patterns, and identify physiological, psychological, and situational factors influencing insomnia and sleep quality among firefighters. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 103 firefighters in Korea. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. Descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, and hierarchical logistic regression analysis were performed. Results: Insomnia was found in 66 (64.1 %) of the total subjects, and the average quality of sleep (PSQI) was 5.65 (SD=2.57). Total sleep time (401.00 minutes) and sleep latency (21.60 minutes) measured using self-reported scales were longer than the ones measured using objective measurements by approximately 48.70 and 17.10 minutes, respectively. Factors related to insomnia included the role as a paramedic (OR=4.28, 95% CI: 1.02~17.92), anxiety (OR=1.12, 95% CI: 1.01~1.24), and sedentary lifestyle (OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.78~0.94), and factors related to sleep quality were physical illness status (OR=5.17, 95% CI: 1.53~17.51) and social support (OR=0.86, 95% CI: 0.78~0.95). Conclusion: The results show a high prevalence of insomnia, poor quality of sleep and the discrepancy between objective and subjective sleep patterns among firefighters. To promote sleep quality and health, early screening and treatment of anxiety and physical illness are required. It is necessary to conduct further studies examining the relationship between physical activity level and sleep.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study is to analyze systematically the trends of experimental researches in the area of community health nursing. Methods: This is a study based on literature review, which analyzed 137 experimental research papers in the Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing, from the first issue in 1989 to those in 2012. Results: 1) The proportion of experimental researches in the total published papers was 14.9%. 2) The mainly used research method was quasi-experiment, which was 60.6% of them, and there was no RCT. 3) Convenient sampling was used in 95.6% of the researches. 4) Only 5.1% were reviewed for keeping the ethical standards for the study objects by the IRB. 5 When classified by the Omaha Classification System, psycho-social researches were most frequent, which were followed by physiological, health-related behavioral, and environmental ones in order of frequency. Conclusion: This study found that the proportion of experimental research papers was increasing in the 2000s and ethical standards were required more rigorously. However, it was suggested that the research design be more elaborated and sampling methods be manifested to reduce research bias and errors.

  • Lately, losses and damage from natural disasters have been increasing. Researchers across various fields in Korea are trying to come up with a response plan, but research for evacuation plans is still far from satisfactory. Hence this paper proposes a model that could find an optimized evacuation route for when disasters occur over wide areas. Development of the model used methods including the Dijkstra shortest path algorithm, feasible path method, genetic algorithm, and pareto efficiency. Computations used parallel computing (SPMD) for high performance. In addition, the developed model is applied to a virtual network to check the validity. Finally the adaptability of the model is verified on a real network by computating for Gumi 1stNational Industrial Complex. Computation results proved that this model is valid and applicable by comparison of the fitness values for before optimization and after optimization. This research can contribute to routing for responder vehicles as well as planning for evacuation by objective when disasters occur.
