  • Grinding has difficulty in satisfying the qualitative knowledge based on the skilled expert as well as quantitative data for all user. Design of grinding database is based on the frame-based model for utilizing the empirical and qualitative knowledge. Inthis paper, basic strategy to develop the grinding database by frame-based model, which is strongly dependent upon experience and intuition, frame-base model, which is strongly dependent upon experience and intuition, is described. Design of grinding database is based on the frame-based model for utilizing the ambiguous knowledge and inference is accomplised by the object-oriented paradigm system.

  • In this study, we present an algorithm that conducts an unique naming process for the bridge object through the solid object identification focused on 3D straight bridge model. For the recognition of 3D objects, the numerical algorithm utilizes centroid point, and solid object on the local coordination system. It classifies the object feature set by classifying the objects and members based on the bridge direction. By doing so, unique names, which contain the information about span, members and order of the object, were determined and the suitability of this naming algorithm was examined through a truss bridge model and a bridge model with different coordinate systems. Also, the naming process based on the object feature set was carried out for the real 3D bridge model and then was applied to the module on local server and mobile device for real bridge inspection work. From the comparison of the developed naming algorithm based on object identification and the conventional one based on field inspection, it was shown that the conventional field inspection work can be effectively improved.

  • For the moving objects with environmental sensors such as object tracking moving robot with audio and video sensors, environmental information acquired from sensors keep changing according to movements of objects. In such case, due to lack of adaptability and system complexity, conventional control schemes show limitations on control performance, and therefore, sensory-motor systems, which can intuitively respond to various types of environmental information, are desirable. And also, to improve the system robustness, it is desirable to fuse more than two types of sensory information simultaneously. In this paper, based on Braitenberg's model, we propose a sensory-motor based fusion system, which can trace the moving objects adaptively to environmental changes. With the nature of direct connecting structure, sensory-motor based fusion system can control each motor simultaneously, and the neural networks are used to fuse information from various types of sensors. And also, even if the system receives noisy information from one sensor, the system still robustly works with information from other sensors which compensates the noisy information through sensor fusion. In order to examine the performance, sensory-motor based fusion model is applied to object-tracking four-foot robot equipped with audio and video sensors. The experimental results show that the sensory-motor based fusion system can tract moving objects robustly with simpler control mechanism than model-based control approaches.

  • Recently, as a BIM-based construction simulation system, 4D CAD tools using virtual reality (VR) objects are being applied in construction project. In such a system, since the expression of the object is based on VR image, it has a sense of separation from the real environment, thus limiting the use of field engineers. For this reason, there are increasing cases of applying augmented reality (AR) technology to reduce the sense of separation from the field and express realistic VR objects. This study attempts to develop a methodology and BIM module for the pre-construction verification system using AR technology to increase the practical utility of VR-based BIM objects. To this end, authors develop an AR-based drawing verification function and drawing object-based 4D model augmentation function that can increase the practical utility of 2D drawings, and verify the applicability of the system by performing case analysis. Since VR object-based image has a problem of low realism to field engineers, the linking technology between AR object and 4D model is expected to contribute to the expansion of the use of 4D CADsystem in the construction project.

  • Haptic rendering is a process that provides force feedback during interactions between a user and an object. This paper presents a haptic rendering technique for a telemanipulation system of deformable objects using image processing and physically based modeling techniques. The interaction forces between an instrument driven by a haptic device and a deformable object are inferred in real time based on a continuum mechanics model of the object, which consists of a boundary element model and ${\alpha}$ priori knowledge of the object's mechanical properties. Macro- and micro-scale experimental systems, equipped with a telemanipulation system and a commercial haptic display, were developed and tested using silicone (macro-scale) and zebrafish embryos (micro-scale). The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the algorithm in different scales: two experimental systems applied the same algorithm provided haptic feedback regardless of the system scale.

  • This research investigates a system for house design automation. The system is based on an object-oriented building data model, aiming to support the house design process conducted by non-expert users. Its object model, with simple yet powerful user interfaces, enables a CAD system to handle a complicated building system with much ease. Hence, the model dramatically simplifies the design process beyond just the automatic document generation. In this paper, we discuss the aspects of the building data model, introduce critical concepts such as grid objects and structured floor plan, and present a prototype system called GPLAN. The system is implemented in the framework of our building data model, and it provides a host of intelligent features that have been proved useful for house design automation.

  • Artificial Intelligence(AI) techniques and Object-Oriented(OO) techniques contribute to the simulation modeling of the complex systems. AI techniques are suitable to model human reasoning in the simulation. While OO techniques have advantages of re-usability, maintainability and extendability of the software. Thus, in this paper, we design a knowledge-based object-oriented simulation model, particularly for the logistics analysis of military armor vehicles. The simulation model consists of three modules i.e., scenario, simulation mechanism, and inference engine. The model is designed within the OO paradigm and implemented by using the C++ language. An example case of using the model for the logistic analysis is included.

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm for detecting and recognizing overlapped objects among a stack of arbitrarily located objects using a signature representation scheme. The proposed algorithm consists of two processes of detecting overlap of objects and of determining the boundary between overlapping objects. To determine overlap of objects, in the first step, the edge image of object region is extracted and those areas in the object region are considered as the object areas if an area is surrounded by a closed edge. For each object, its signature image is constructed by measuring the distances of those edge points from the center of the object, along the angle axis, which are located at every angle with reference to the center of the object. When an object is not overlapped, its features which consist of the positions and angles of outstanding points in the signature are searched in the database to find its corresponding model. When an object is overlapped, its features are partially matched with those object models among which the best matching model is selected as the corresponding model. The boundary among the overlapping objects is determined by projecting the signature to the original image. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been tested with the task of picking the top or non-overlapped object from a stack of arbitrarily located objects. In the experiment, a recognition rate of 98% has been achieved.

  • It is proposed in TINA, the open information telecommunication network architecture, that the definition of object group which is collection of objects provides a decrease of complex networking and a facility of object managing by service executing of application on distributed computing environment. Based on a new distributed object group model[13] we have been researched according to TINA specification, this paper proposed the object group model with the scheduler object and objects management mechanisms that can support real-time services on CORBA. To do this, we described the definition of object grouping and the requirements to suggest the object group model supporting real-time service, designed the object group structure and functional components containing in an object group using James Rumbaugh's modelling[12], and showed a class diagram of components in an object group. This paper designed IDLs of an object group manager and scheduler among the components, and finally showed the procedures of management and service interconnections between objects in the different object groups vi ETD.

  • A stores management software which is embedded in the stores management system requires high-level reliability and real-time processing. It also required to implement and verify protocols which requires timing constraints to control various weapons. In this paper, we propose design methodology to design a stores management software and its support middleware based on the TMO (Time-triggered Message-triggered Object) model.
