An Exploratory Study of Psychological Characteristics of Metaverse Users (메타버스 이용자의 심리 특성 탐색 연구)

  • This study aims to identify the primary user group in the growing metaverse space based on the increased interest during the COVID-19 era. It also aims to explore the predictive factors for metaverse adoption. To predict online activities, the study examined user purposes, motivations, and relevant demographic factors as predictive variables through model analysis. The data from the Korean Media Panel Survey were used, and a two-stage analysis with the Heckman two-stage sample selection model was conducted to predict metaverse users. The analysis revealed that the key factors influencing metaverse adoption were offline activities, openness, OTT usage, and purchasing of paid content. Moreover, in the second stage model, openness, gender, and paid content purchases were identified as significant variables for increasing metaverse usage time. These results indicate that understanding metaverse users is essential in the context of the rising interest in online activities during the COVID-19 era and can provide valuable insights for metaverse platform-related companies and developers.

The Impact of Mobile Channel Adoption on Video Consumption: Are We Watching More and for Longer? (모바일 채널 수용이 고객의 동영상 소비에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증 연구)

  • The advancement in mobile technology brought disruptive innovation in media industry. The introduction of mobile devices broke spatial and temporal restrictions in media consumption. This study investigates the impact of mobile channel adoption on video viewing behavior, using real-world dataset obtained from a particular on-demand service provider in South Korea. We find that the adoption of a mobile channel significantly increases the total viewing time of video-on-demand via TV and the number of contents viewed. Our results suggest that the mobile channels act as a complement channel to conventional TV channels. We provide theoretical and practical insights on consumer usage in the emerging over-the-top market.

하드웨어 복호화기 구현을 고려한 VVC 부호화 도구 및 제약 분석

  • 고해상도 영상 서비스 증가와 Youtube, Netflix와 같은 OTT 중심의 동영상 시청 환경 변화에 따라, 기존 대비 높은 압축률을 목표로 하는 새로운 비디오 코덱 표준들이 활발히 개발되고 있다. 그 중 가장 대표적인 것은 MPEG에서 개발 중인 VVC(Versatile Video Coding)로 기존 HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) 대비 2배의 압축률 달성을 목표로 하고 있다. 하지만 압축률 향상을 위한 새로운 부호화 도구들의 복잡도가 점점 증가함에 따라, 하드웨어 복호화기 구현시 많은 어려움이 있을 것으로 예상된다. VVC 표준화에서는 이런 어려움을 극복하기 위하여, 하드웨어 구현 관점에서 부호화 도구들을 최적화하고 이를 사용함에 있어 몇가지 제약들을 정의하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 현재 VVCCD 및 VTM 6.0 소프트웨어 기준으로 하드웨어 복호화기 구현을 고려하여 채택된 부호화 도구 및 제약에 대하여 분석한다.

  • 인터넷 미디어, OTT, VOD 등 신규미디어가 비장애인의 정보제공 매체로 널리 확대되나, 자막 서비스를 제공하지 않아 청각장애인의 정보 격차가 더욱 심화되고 있다. 청각장애인의 미디어 접근성 제고를 위해 음성인식 서버 및 스마트 폰·태블릿 앱 간 연계를 통해 음성을 인식하여 자동으로 자막을 생성하고 표시하는 음성-자막 자동 변환 시스템을 개발하였고 음성인식률을 높이기 위해 뉴스/시사/다큐 장르 영상 콘텐츠의 음성에 대해 학습용 데이터를 제작하여 음성인식 성능을 고도화 시켰다. 본 논문에서는 청각장애인을 위한 음성-자막 자동 변환시스템 구성과 음성인식률 비교 평가 결과를 보여준다.

An Analysis of Distinct Characteristics Between Free VOD and Paid VOD Users (IPTV 무료VOD이용자와 유료VOD이용자 간 차이에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • As the growth rate of IPTV VOD usage increases it is necessary to analyze VOD usage patterns systematically. This study divides VOD users into free VOD and paid VOD users, then explores how VOD usage motivations, usage patterns, and demographic factors affect the differences between two groups. The results show that social motivation, VOD satisfaction, using content after the holdback expiration, an intention to pay for ad-skip, the proportion of VOD usage, a VOD give-up experience, TV usage time, and SVOD usage time, are statistically significant. Except the VOD satisfaction factor, all of the factors analyzed are more likely to expect paid VOD users. Additionally this study found paid VOD users are more likely to use a SVOD service as an alternative one compared with free VOD users.

  • 최근 급격히 증가한 모바일 기기와 Over The Top (OTT) 서비스의 활성화로 인하여 CMM 기반의 LTE/EPC 네트워크에 과다한 데이터/제어 트래픽의 수용이 힘들어지는 문제가 중요 이슈로 부각되고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 IETF는 Distributed Mobility Management (DMM) 기반의 이동성 관리 방안을 제안하였다. 하지만 DMM 기술은 중앙의 트래픽 부하 분산에 초점을 두고 있어 단말의 이동과 관련하여 발생하는 과다한 제어 트래픽 수용에 관한 문제를 해결하기에는 부족하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 SDN 기반으로 CMM과 DMM을 함께 이용하는 HMM (Hybrid Mobility Management) LTE/ECP 네트워크 모델을 제시한다. 또한 HMM 기반의 LTE/EPC 네트워크 모델은 CMM 및 DMM 기법의 선택을 위해 단말의 이동성과 PDN 연결의 개수를 고려한 선택방안을 제시하며, 제안하는 HMM 기반의 LTE/EPC 네트워크 구조에서의 데이터 트래픽 부하량과 단말의 이동성과 PDN 연결 개수에 따라 제어 트래픽의 양을 비교하는 그래프를 제시하며 제안하는 네트워크 모델의 타당성을 입증한다.

A Criticism of Path Dependence in the Broadcasting Programming Regulation : Focusing on Regulation of Programming Quotas (방송편성규제의 경로의존성 비판과 개선방향 : 편성비율규제를 중심으로)

  • With the activation of OTT and VOD services, the viewing behavior is rapidly changing, but the programming regulation has not escaped the ratio regulation in the same way as in the past. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the policy validity of the current organization ratio regulation and to suggest improvement directions based on this. To this end, the policy objectives and background at the time of the introduction of the domestic organization ratio regulation were considered and compared with the current status of the broadcasting market. As a result, this study found that it is difficult to apply the logical framework of asymmetric regulation at the time of the formation ratio regulation into the current status of broadcasting market, the existing framework was established and hold in the mutual relationship of various stake holders formed based on the asymmetric regulation. It was pointed out that the typical pattern of path dependency repeating only fine adjustment of ratio was shown. Based on this, this study suggests that it needs to be divided into the regulation by the public interest and the regulation by the industrial purpose according to the purpose of regulation, and it is necessary to be limited to the direct regulation corresponding to the public interest of the viewer. Also this study proposes that it is necessary to separate the regulation from promotion policies as well as to resolute asymmetric regulation in broadcasting policies.

A Study on Creation of Fair Transaction Environment between Platform Operator and Contents Provider in Broadcasting Industry (방송 산업 내 플랫폼사업자와 콘텐츠사업자 간 공정거래환경 조성 연구)

  • In a broadcasting market environment that has a close interdependence between platform operators and content operators, problems such as conflicts over program usage fees, and home shopping transmission fees are intensifying. This study attempted to analyze the environment of the domestic broadcasting market and present implications, analyze the cause of user fee conflict between the platform and PP, and propose detailed alternatives to resolve user fee conflict disputes. The results of environmental analysis on the domestic broadcasting market are as follows. First, the growth engine of the broadcasting industry has changed to direct resources such as service usage fees and content fees, and commerce is increasing. Second, as hegemony in the domestic broadcasting market changes from terrestrial to paid broadcasting and OTT, monopolies in the entire broadcasting area are being dismantled by voluntary entry. Third, the need to overhaul the existing regulatory system is increasing due to the dismantling and reorganization of the existing broadcasting market. On the other hand, this study proposed a strategy to diversify the profit structure of PP, supply program after pre-contracting, and strengthen CPS bargaining power in order to resolve disputes between paid broadcasting platforms and PP sharply. In particular, as strategies to strengthen CPS bargaining power of small and medium-sized SOs, it proposed to jointly improve CPS-related systems through IPTV and individual SOs, to redefine fees for programs and to voluntarily use programs.

Automated Story Generation with Image Captions and Recursiva Calls (이미지 캡션 및 재귀호출을 통한 스토리 생성 방법)

  • The development of technology has achieved digital innovation throughout the media industry, including production techniques and editing technologies, and has brought diversity in the form of consumer viewing through the OTT service and streaming era. The convergence of big data and deep learning networks automatically generated text in format such as news articles, novels, and scripts, but there were insufficient studies that reflected the author's intention and generated story with contextually smooth. In this paper, we describe the flow of pictures in the storyboard with image caption generation techniques, and the automatic generation of story-tailored scenarios through language models. Image caption using CNN and Attention Mechanism, we generate sentences describing pictures on the storyboard, and input the generated sentences into the artificial intelligence natural language processing model KoGPT-2 in order to automatically generate scenarios that meet the planning intention. Through this paper, the author's intention and story customized scenarios are created in large quantities to alleviate the pain of content creation, and artificial intelligence participates in the overall process of digital content production to activate media intelligence.

Expansion of K-Content by Global Fandom : Focusing on 'Fansub' Community of Viki (글로벌 팬덤을 통한 한류 콘텐츠의 확대 : Viki의 '팬 자막' 커뮤니티를 중심으로)

  • This study examines how global fandom for Korean dramas is formed and maintained by examining the reason and purpose of voluntarily making the subtitles of Korean drama through in-depth email interviews with foreign subtitle producers(fan subber) working on a video site called Viki.com. The research focused on Viki's fan community, which has grown into the most influential Korean Wave platform. Collective intelligence expresses in the fan community produces more than professional results and they are acting as consumers, cultural producers, and second creators of K-content. In order to continue the spread of K-content, it needs to pay more attention to the long-term strategy of global fandom combined with the fan community activities of the new media platform and network effects.
