  • This paper proposed the color reproduction modeling of OLED using standard RGB display. The kinds of non-standard RGB displays are various. And color reproduction of non-standard RGB displays is different by chromaticities of primaries and reference white etc. In this paper, we proposed algorithm that made OLED display's color reproduction to standard CRT monitor using conversion matrix. If using the algorism that is proposed in this paper, we can confirm the reproduced color characteristics to simulation beforehand and improve the performance of existing display. when developing new display, we are expected to be used very usefully.

  • Recently, various Ni doping systems and thermal annealing systems have been developed for fabrication of polycrystalline silicon film using SGS (super grain silicon) for medium and largesize AMOLED panels. In this study, we compare the potential of Ni doping systems including ALD (atomic layer deposition), AMD (atmospheric metal deposition), in-line sputter, and crystallization annealing systems including batch type furnace, inline furnace, and RTA (rapid thermal annealing) developed for the SGS method. Additional requirements for those systems to be used for mass production of large AMOLED TVs are suggested based on evaluation results for both poly-Si films and TFT backplanes.

  • Universal Display Corporation (UDC), together with its University partners at Princeton University and the University of Southern California, are developing high-efficiency electrophosphorescent OLED devices, based on triplet emission. Recent results show both excellent device efficiencies and good lifetimes for the commercialization of low power consumption, full-color, passive and activematrix OLED displays. We also show that phosphorescent devices may be driven by low cost amorphous silicon backplanes, and discuss the benefits of using our proprietary top emission OLED device architecture.

  • High efficiency deep blue and pure white phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes were developed using a new deep blue phosphorescent dopant, tris((3,5-difluoro-4-cyanophenyl)pyridine) iridium (FCNIr). A high quantum efficiency of 9.1 % with a color coordinate of (0.15, 0.16) at 1,000 cd/$m^2$ was obtained in the deep blue device and a high quantum efficiency of 15.2 % with a color coordinate (0.30, 0.32) was obtained in the pure white organic light-emitting diodes. The quantum efficiency of the pure white device is the best quantum efficiency value reported in the pure white device up to now.

  • In the present study, flexible display technology, which has attracted significant attention in recent years, is discussed. The technology has been widely applied to various devices, such as foldable smartphones and rollable TVs. Notably, different flexible display types from LCD to OLED and E-paper have been employed to implement such devices in practice. Among them, the OLED technology has thus far led the flexible display market. In the present study, the concept and current application fields of the technology are analyzed, and further its potential applications are discussed.

  • The image processing methods are widely used in many industrial fields to detect defections in inspection devices. In this study an image processing method was conducted for the detection of abnormal pixels in a OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode) type panel which is used for small size displays. The display quality of an OLED device is dependent on the pixel formation quality. So, among the so many pixels, to find out the faulty pixels is very important task in manufacturing processing or inspection division. We used a line scanning type BW(Black & White) camera which has very high resolution characteristics to acquire an image of display pixel patterns. And the various faulty cases in pixel abnormal patterns are considered to detect abnormal pixels. From the results of the research, the normal BW pixel image could be restored to its original color pixel.

  • High contrast red, green and blue organic light-emitting diodes were fabricated using inorganic metal multi layer composed of thin Al, KCl and thick Al and then were compared to optical and electrical characteristics with the attached polarizer and conventional OLEDs. Ambient light reflection of OLED using inorganic metal layer, polarizer and conventional metal layer were 29.2, 31.1 and 82.5% respectively. Optical characteristics of OLEDs using inorganic metal layer were max luminescence of 13040 cd/m2 and luminous efficiency of 2.12 cd/A at 8V whereas OLEDs using polarizer has 8456 cd/m2 and 1.43 cd/A at 8V each. OLEDs including inorganic metal multi layers show significant technical advantages in achieving high performance of OLED display with improved contrast ratio of 251:1, specifically in Red OLED.

  • This study focused on the development of in-situ passivation system and characterization of OLED display. The thin film passivation process with thin film layers was investigated using in-situ passivation technique in the cluster system. Thin films of $SiO_2$, SiNx passivation were manufactured using PECVD, which enables the deposition process at room temperature. The cluster system was created to develop in-situ passivation process, which OLED and thin film were fabricated in the cluster system without exposing to the atmospheric environment. It is expected that the in-situ passivation system of OLED with organic and inorganic layer provides the leading technique to develop flexible OLED.

  • Advanced mobile communication devices require a bright, high information content display in a small, light-weight, low power consumption package. In this paper we will outline our progress towards developing such a low power consumption active-matrix flexible OLED ($FOLED^{TM}$) display. Our work in this area is focused on three critical enabling technologies. The first is the development of a high efficiency long-lived phosphorescent OLED ($PHOLED{TM}$) device technology, which has now proven itself to be capable of meeting the low power consumption performance requirements for mobile display applications. Secondly, is the development of flexible active matrix backplanes, and for this our team are employing poly-Si TFTs formed on metal foil substrates as this approach represents an attractive alternative to fabricating poly-Si TFTs on plastic for the realization of first generation flexible active matrix OLED displays. Unlike most plastics, metal foil substrates can withstand a large thermal load and do not require a moisture and oxygen permeation barrier. Thirdly, the key to reliable operation is to ensure that the organic materials are fully encapsulated in a package designed for repetitive flexing. We also present progress in operational lifetime of encapsulated T-PHOLED pixels on planarized metal foil and discuss PHOLED encapsulation strategy.
