  • Prior studies of physiologically active substances in grapes have focused only on the fruit, pericarp, and branches, as well as the pulp and seeds. The present study assessed the changes in quercetin-3-O-glucuronide (Q3OG) and flavonol glycoside content using grape leaves from Vitis labruscana B. and V. coignetiae at different growth stages and provided basic data for quality control. Content analysis showed that both varieties differed in Q3OG and flavonol glycoside content by growth stage, and the components were found to be high in the order of fruit, maturation, and coloration. Also, Vitis labruscana B. has a better vascular relaxation effect than Vitis coignetiae. These results suggest that in the use of grape leaves as a functional raw material, Q3OG and flavonol glycosides can be used as indicator components. In addition, if raw materials for each growth stage are mixed in a particular ratio, it will be a way to manage the specific efficacy and content of indicator components.

Safety of Laparoscopic Radical Gastrectomy in Gastric Cancer Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease

  • Purpose: The surgical outcomes of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer were inferior compared with those of non-ESRD patients. This study aimed to evaluate the short- and long-term surgical outcomes of ESRD patients undergoing laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) and open gastrectomy (OG) for gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: Between 2004 and 2014, 38 patients (OG: 21 patients, LG: 17 patients) with ESRD underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer. Comparisons were made based on the clinicopathological characteristics, surgical outcomes, and long-term survival rates. Results: No significant differences were noted in the clinicopathological characteristics of either group. LG patients had lower estimated blood loss volumes than OG patients (LG vs. OG: 94 vs. 275 mL, P=0.005). The operation time and postoperative hospital stay were similar in both the groups. The postoperative morbidity for LG and OG patients was 41.1% and 33.3%, respectively (P=0.873). No significant difference was observed in the long-term overall survival rates between the 2 groups (5-year overall survival, LG vs. OG: 82.4% vs. 64.7%, P=0.947). Conclusions: In ESRD patients, LG yielded non-inferior short- and long-term surgical outcomes compared to OG. Laparoscopic procedures might be safely adopted for ESRD patients who can benefit from the advantages of minimally invasive surgery.

A High Yield Rate MEMS Gyroscope with a Packaged SiOG Process (SiOG 공정을 이용한 고 신뢰성 MEMS 자이로스코프)

  • MEMS devices such as a vibratory gyroscope often suffer from a lower yield rate due to fabrication errors and the external stress. In the decoupled vibratory gyroscope, the main factor that determines the yield rate is the frequency difference between the sensing and driving modes. The gyroscope, fabricated with SOI (Silicon-On-Insulator) wafer and packaged using the anodic bonding, has a large wafer bowing caused by thermal expansion mismatch as well as non-uniform surfaces of the structures caused by the notching effect. These effects result in large distribution in the frequency difference, and thereby a lower yield rate. To improve the yield rate we propose a packaged SiOG (Silicon On Glass) technology. It uses a silicon wafer and two glass wafers to minimize the wafer bowing and a metallic membrane to avoid the notching. In the packaged SiOG gyroscope, the notching effect is eliminated and the warpage of the wafer is greatly reduced. Consequently the frequency difference is more uniformly distributed and its variation is greatly improved. Therefore we can achieve a more robust vibratory MEMS gyroscope with a higher yield rate.

  • The object of this experiment was to suggest the suitahle N-P-K fertilization level for orchardgrass(0G)-red clover(RC) mixtures under the intensive system of short-term pasture utilization. The fields trials were conducted over 3-year period(1991-1993) to evaluate dry matter yield. botanical composition, chemical composition and CP, DDM yield on the N-P-K levels (0-0-0. 50-100-100. 100-150-150, 150-2OO-200. 200-250-250 and 300-350- 350kg/ha).   • This study was conducted to investigate the relation of adaptability to the temperature and wearing behavior in both obese and normal weight children and their mothers' guidance. A questionnaire was used and the subjects were elementary school children in the 4th to the 6th grade (1,501) and their mothers (1,459) living in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Andong cities. The children were divided into two groups: a normal weight group (NWG, 1,192) and an obese group (OG, 309). There was no relation between children's adaptability to temperature and their mothers'. OG's mothers were more affirmative than NWG's mothers in purchasing children's clothing which suited them. The more NWG's mothers purchased children's clothing which suited them, the more NWG chose clothes that were conscious of body figure, while OG's mothers chose children's clothing which suited them regardless of OG's consideration of the body figure. It is suggested that an educational program of wearing behavior of obese children and their mothers as well as various measurements for the questionnaire should be developed for more intensive studies in this field.

In vitro study of Streptococcus mutans adhesion on composite resin coated with three surface sealants

  • Objectives: Although the coating of surface sealants to dental composite resin may potentially reduce bacterial adhesion, there seems to be little information regarding this issue. This preliminary in vitro study investigated the adhesion of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) on the dental composite resins coated with three commercial surface sealants. Materials and Methods: Composite resin (Filtek Z250) discs (8 mm in diameter, 1 mm in thickness) were fabricated in a mold covered with a Mylar strip (control). In group PoGo, the surfaces were polished with PoGo. In groups PS, OG, and FP, the surfaces polished with PoGo were coated with the corresponding surface sealants (PermaSeal, PS; OptiGuard, OG; Fortify Plus, FP). The surfaces of the materials and S. mutans cells were characterized by various methods. S. mutans adhesion to the surfaces was quantitatively evaluated using flow cytometry (n = 9). Results: Group OG achieved the lowest water contact angle among all groups tested (p < 0.001). The cell surface of S. mutans tested showed hydrophobic characteristics. Group PoGo exhibited the greatest bacterial adhesion among all groups tested (p < 0.001). The sealant-coated groups showed statistically similar (groups PS and FP, p > 0.05) or significantly lower (group OG, p < 0.001) bacterial adhesion when compared with the control group. Conclusions: The application of the surface sealants significantly reduced S. mutans adhesion to the composite resin polished with the PoGo.

A Study on the Design and Fabrication of the UWB Bandpass Filter (초광대역 대역통과여파기의 설계와 제작에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a band pass filter with a rejection band is proposed for UWB(Ultra Wide Band) communication system. First, low pass filter accessed cut off frequency of 10.2 GHz was designed using structure stepped impedance. And high pass filter accessed cut of frequency of 3.2 GHz was designed using parallel short-stub. There was implemented composite connection of designed low pass filter and high pass filter. The relative dielectric constant, the height, the loss tangent of the PCB substrate were ${\varepsilon}_r$=2.2, h=0.508 mm and loss tangent = 0.0009 respectively. The fabricated band pass filter shows a compact size of 3 cm. The fabricated band pass filter was characterized using 37169A VNA(Vector Network Analyzer). And measured result were obtained 7.5 GHz of bandwidth and -10 dB of return loss and -3 dB of insertion loss from pass band. The result of the research can be used for the UWB communications and MIC/MMIC, RFIC system.

Changes in the Fruit Quality of Organic and Low-level Agrochemical-grown Kiwifruit during Storage (유기농 및 저농약 재배한 참다래의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • Kiwifruits conventionally grown (CG), grown with low levels of chemicals (LCG), and organically grown (OG), were kept in cold storage for 24 weeks. Firmness gradually decreased with increasing storage time, regardless of cultivation mode, and the rate of softening was slightly higher in OG than in CG or LCG fruit. Neither dry matter level nor sensory values differed with varying types of cultivation. Soluble solid content increased with storage time, whereas acidity decreased in all fruit. Reducing sugar content increased notably until 12 weeks of storage, whereas starch content significantly decreased. The rate of OG fruit decay abruptly increased mid-storage and reached 35% 24 weeks after storage. Most fruit decayed due to infection with Botritis cinerea, regardless of cultivation type. Respiration and ethylene content peaked at mid-storage and were both slightly higher in OG fruit than in CG or LCG fruit. The shelf life of kiwifruit was reduced in OG fruit by increased fruit decay and softening during storage.

The Dietary Behavior of Obese and Normal Weight Elementary School Children with Maternal Guidance for Their Dietary Behavior (초등학교 비만아동 및 정상체중아동의 식행동과 어머니의 식행동 지도)

  • This study was conducted to investigate whether there were any differences in the body image perception, dietary behavior and maternal dietary guidance between an obese group (“OG”) and a normal weight group (“NWG”), and furthermore, to provide basic informations for comprehensive educational programs for obese children. For this purpose, the questionnaire method was used. The subjects were 1,501 elementary school children, in the 4th to the 6th grades in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Andong, and their mothers (1,459). The percentage of the children who misperceive their body image was higher among the girls (30.4%) than the boys (22.6%) The average scores for balanced dietary behavior as assessed by the children was higher in the OG than in NWG; the average scores for dietary control as assessed by their mothers was higher in the NWG than in the OG. The scores for dietary behavior as assessed by the children was different from those as assessed by their mothers. Assuming that the mothers would give more correct and balanced answers, the development of a reliable questionnaire for dietary behavior that could be more accurately answered by the children is necessary. Maternal dietary guidance for dietary control was more frequently given in the OG as compared with the NWG and more frequently in girls as compared with boys ; while that for balanced diet was more in the NWG as compared with the OG. The worse the mothers estimate of the dietary behavior for their children, the more they tried to guide their children in dietary behavior. It is recommended that the children should be taught to correctly recognize the degree of their obesity, and receive the appropriate educational program accordingly, including the maternal dietary guidance.
