  • Femtocell is an economical solution to provide high speed indoor communication instead of the conventional macro-cellular networks. Especially, OFDMA femtocell is considered in the next generation cellular network such as 3GPP LTE and mobile WiMAX system. Although the femtocell has great advantages to accommodate indoor users, interference management problem is a critical issue to operate femtocell network. Existing OFDMA resource management algorithms only consider optimizing system-centric metric, and cannot manage the co-channel interference. Moreover, it is hard to cooperate with other femtocells to control the interference, since the self-configurable characteristics of femtocell. This paper proposes a novel interference-aware resource allocation algorithm for OFDMA femtocell networks. The proposed algorithm allocates resources according to a new objective function which reflects the effect of interference, and the heuristic algorithm is also introduced to reduce the complexity of the original problem. The Monte-Carlo simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm compared to the existing solutions.

  • The future mobile communication system can support not only voice but also multimedia applications such as data, image and video. It requires greater resources than the voice-oriented mobile system. We propose a efficient resource allocation for mobile multimedia services in the OFDMA systems. Our method is able to guarantee QoS continuity of realtime class and carry the maximum number of non-realtime subscriber.

  • We consider user pairing and resource allocation for the uplink of cellular systems employing virtual multiple input multiple output (MIMO). As a multiple access scheme, discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiple access (DFTS-OFDMA) is adopted for more flexible resource allocation than single carrier (SC)-OFDMA adopted in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) system. We formulate the optimization problems of user pairing and resource allocation to maximize the throughput of the DFTS-OFDMA system under different constraints. The DFTS-OFDMA allowing non-contiguous subcarrier allocation and redundant user assignment provides a better throughput than the SC-FDMA at lower complexity in finding the optimal solution but at the cost of the increased control information indicating the allocated resources.

  • In this paper, the performances of representative high resolution direction finding algorithms are evaluated and compared in wideband mobile environments. The angular spread phenomenon in mobile environments is first investigated and then a vector channel model for wideband OFDMA signals is derived. A direction finding system architecture for OFDMA smart antenna systems is proposed and finally the performances of high resolution direction finding algorithms are evaluated in wideband mobile environments by taking the WiBro system as a target system.

  • We propose BMPA(balanced multimedia packet allocation) scheme. This scheme considers the issue of optimal sub-carrier allocation in OFDMA multicast system. When RT(real time) packets and NRT(non-real time) packets arrive at the same time, BMPA scheme gives higher weight to RT packets than NRT packets and then, it allocates sub-carriers according to the total weight sum of packets in each user. This process acts as both packet scheduler and sub-carrier allocation. Therefore, each user receives multimedia packets with reliability. With simulation results, it shows that BMPA scheme ensures long-term system throughput and, in average RT packet delay, BMPA scheme greatly outperforms multi-user water-filling algorithm.

  • In the paper, we analyze the performances of random access channels in multi-service multi-user OFDMA systems. The resource of the random access channels in OFDMA systems is the nubmer of available sub-channels and PN-codes. For given available sub-channels and PN-codes. we analyze the performances of the random access channels of OFDMA systems according to three resource allocation methods (resource full sharing, resource partial sharing, resource partition) in tenus of the access success probability, the blocking probability, the access delay and the throughput of each service class. Further, we find the feasible region of the access probability of each service class in which the allowable minimum access success probability, the allowable maximum blocking probability and the allowable maximum access delay are satisfied. The results also can be utilized to find proper region of the access probabilities of each service class for differentiated quality of service(QoS)s, and for the system operations.

  • OFDMA is considered as one of the major candidates for broadband wireless access. The OFDMA signal is usually coherently demodulated, requiring the channel estimation which can be estimated using a known pilot signal. In multi-cell environment, the performance of channel estimation is mainly limited by intercell interference. It is desirable to use a pilot signal that can estimate the channel information robust to the intercell interference in the OFDMA uplink system. In this paper, we consider two types of pilot signal applicable to multi-cell OFDMA uplink systems: One is time-multiplexed pilot signal and the other is codemultiplexed pilot signal. Simulation results show that the code-multiplexed pilot is suitable for low mobility environment and time-multiplexed pilot is suitable for high mobility environment.

  • In this parer, we analyze the preamble model in the OFDMA/TDD(OFDM-FDMA/Time Division Duplexing). Besides, under AWGN, ITU-R M.1225 Ped-B and Veh-A channel environments, we analyze capabilities of symbol timing & carrier frequency offset and performance of cell searching capabilities applied to OFDM/TDD system through computer simulation. The performance using Detection Probability, False Alarm Probability, Missing Probability, Mean Acquisition Time and MSE(Mean Square Error) is analyzed. Especially, in the case of symbol timing offset estimation, the preamble structure and its algorithm with enhanced performance are proposed and then compared with existing ones.

  • In this paper, the frequency sharing issue between cellular time division duplex-orthogonal frequency division multiple access (TDD-OFDMA) Systems and terrestrial Fixed Systems has been studied. The conventional advanced minimum coupling loss (A-MCL) includes only the formulation to calculate the interference from one interfering system. Therefore, A-MCL must be modified to assess the aggregated interference from base stations(BS) and mobile stations(MS). By applying the modified model, the coexistence analysis are done according to the average number of MS per sector, BS-to-BS distance, and the main beam direction of the terrestrial fixed system. In the case of 20 MS per sector, the BS-to-BS distance and the minimum distance between a terrestrial fixed system and BS are 5.8 km and 2.5 km, respectively. It is about 25dB that the difference between maximum and minimum interference signal power which varies with the main beam direction of the terrestrial fixed system. Moreover, for 40% of the main beam direction of the terrestrial fixed system, interference signal power is less than the maximum permissible interference.

  • While the cyclic prefix lengths of downlink OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) systems are determined based on the maximum delay spreads encountered in cellular environments, the guard interval of uplink OFDMA systems should consider the timing offsets of uplink signals as well as the delay spread lengths. Especially in the cases of initial accesses, handovers, and considerable time elapsed without data transmissions between base and mobile stations in a large cell, uplink timing offsets can be large and a very long guard interval length may be required. In order to keep the small size of the cyclic prefix in uplink OFDMA systems, the systems require a method of extending the guard intervals for users with large timing offsets without affecting the cyclic prefix length of the system. This paper proposes a method extending the guard intervals of individual users in uplink OFDMA systems.
