복합소재 O-링 접합계면의 단열특성에 관한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 (Computer Simulation on Insulation Characteristics of Composite Material O-rings)

  • O-ring seal is usual component part in various mechanical apparatus for sealing that makes efficient performance of the equipments. The sealing performance of O-ring is affected in environments of the O-rings, like that applied pressure, working temperature, pre-compressed ratio and materials. In this paper, a pressurized, compressed elastomeric bi-polymer O-ring inserted into a rectangular groove is analyzed numerically using the MARC finite element program. The calculated FEM results showed that bi-polymer O-ring that is manufactured by NBR for an inner and FFKM for an outer ring shows a low temperature distribution among various bi-polymer O-ring models. But, the normal contact stress between the flange and upper part of the O-ring is small compared to other bi-polymer model.

On the Sealing Characteristics Analysis and Design of Bi-Polymer O-ring Seals

  • The paper deals with a non-linear finite element analysis of the thermomechanical distortions of an elastomeric O-ring seal including a temperature gradient. Axial compression of O-ring seals, as well as the influence of the temperature gradients and various O-ring seal models, are investigated based on the axisymmetric analysis. The highest temperature occurs near the interface of the O-ring between the dovetail groove bottom and the O-ring seal. The calculated FEM results indicate that the composite O-ring with the diametral ratio, 0.8 shows very stable and recommendable compared with other seal models far elevated temperatures and corrosive environments.

  • The elastomeric O-ring is the most-commonly-used seal due to its excellent sealing capacity, and its availability in various costs and sizes; furthermore, its importance has lasted over a long duration. However, a dearth of research exists in Korea regarding the elastomeric O-ring and the corresponding techniques. The constituent parts of elastomeric rubber are important; to determine their properties, the uni-axial tension and equi-biaxial tension need to be tested. Also, the non-linear analysis method reduces the design cost. An O-ring failure causes leaks and vibration. In this paper, foreign objects are used to affect an O-ring and its performance so that all angles of the O-ring design can be considered. This paper presents a solution for the O-ring-failure problem using a finite-element analysis.

  • X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) 분석법을 이용하여 FKM O-ring의 대기중에서의 노화 메카니즘을 관찰하였다. FKM O-ring은 선경 3.53mm, 내경 91.67mm인 오링을 시편으로 사용하였다. 노화 후 FKM O-ring의 oxygen 원소의 농도가 20.39%로 증가하였으며, fluorine 원소는 각각 8.29%로 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 이를 통하여 산소에 의한 산화 반응이 FKM O-ring의 주요 노화 반응으로 나타났다. C1s와 F1s 피크 분석 결과, FKM O-ring의 주쇄중 C-F 결합에서 산화 반응이 주로 진행되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 O1s 피크 분석 결과, 산화 반응을 통하여 C-OH, C=O, 그리고 O=C-O 구조를 형성하며, 주로 카르복실기가 생성되는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Let R be a ring with unity, X the set of all nonzero, nonunits of R and G the group of all units of R. We will consider some group actions on X by G, the left (resp. right) regular action and the conjugate action. In this paper, by investigating these group actions we can have some results as follows: First, if E(R), the set of all nonzero nonunit idempotents of a unit-regular ring R, is commuting, then $o_{\ell}(x)\;=\;o_r(x)$, $o_c(x)\;=\;\{x\}$ for all $x\;{\in}\;X$ where $o_{\ell}(x)$ (resp. $o_r(x)$, $o_c(x)$) is the orbit of x under the left regular (resp. right regular, conjugate) action on X by G and R is abelian regular. Secondly, if R is a unit-regular ring with unity 1 such that G is a cyclic group and $2\;=\;1\;+\;1\;{\in}\;G$, then G is a finite group. Finally, if R is an abelian regular ring such that G is an abelian group, then R is a commutative ring.

고온조건에서 NBR O-링 밀봉력에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental study on the Sealing Force of NBR O-Ring with high Temperature)

  • The O-ring seal is a usual component part in various mechanical apparatuses for sealing that makes efficient performance of the equipments. The sealing performance of 0-ring is effected in environments of the O-ring seal, like that applied pressures, working temperatures, interferences and materials. In this paper, an pressurized, NBR O-ring is calculated by experimental methods and analysed numerically using the MARC finite element program. The calculated experimental and FEM results showed that the Contact force O-ring decreases as a function of temperature.

유체압력(流體壓力)에 의한 Squeezed O-ring의 압착(壓着)과 초기(初期) 압출(押出) Mechanism (Pressurization and Initial Extrusion of a Squeezed O-Ring into a Clearance Gap)

  • When an O-ring is installed in a high fluid pressure device, a section of the O-ring is extruded into the piston-cylinder clearance gap. Any tendency towards extrusion will induce wear in dynamic applications, leading to premature failure of the seal. In this study, the mechanism of initial extrusion of the O-ring was studied, 1.e., how much amount of the O-ring will be extruded into the clearance gap at a certain pressure. The relationship between extrusion depth and a clearance gap or fluid pressure were studied by finite element analysis (FEA). After that, Salita's experimental data were analyzed. The result is that Initial extrusion depth for an O-ring into a clearance gap was 1.11 times the product of dimensionless pressure difference $(p-p_1)/E$ and clearance gap c. The required pressure $p_1$ for zero extrusion depth was found to decrease logarithmically with increasing clearance gap.

온도를 고려한 FFKM O-링의 밀봉력에 관한 연구 (On the Sealing Force of Perfluoroelastomer O-rings Including Temperature Effects)

  • O-ring seal is widely used for sealing pressure vessels and oil containers in various applications of mechanical equipments. The doughnut shape of the O-ring is very important components in most of the system assembly of mechanical apparatus. This paper presents the sealing force of a pressurized perfluoroelastomer O-ring, which is very important contact seal in sealing the semiconductor equipment. The sealing pressure is measured by experimental method and analyzed numerically by using the non-linear MARC finite element program. The seal tester is made to measure the contact force and displacement of the O-ring with an automatic control system of the working temperature. The results show the reasonable agreements between the computed FEM results and measured ones when the operating temperature is moderate temperature. But the compared values between the computed and tested results show a difference because of the increased temperature, which is related to the non-linear parameter of the O-ring material.

접촉면 형상에 따른 O-링의 접촉거동해석에 관한 연구 (On the Contact Behavior Analysis of the O-ring Depending on the Contact Surface Profiles)

  • In this paper, the contact stress and strain distributions in elastomer O-ring seals have been analyzed using a non-linear finite element method. The stress behavior of PTFE materials is assumed as Odgen model because the sealing clearance between the flange and the surface of the O-ring is not small and the sealing pressure of working fluids covers from the atmospheric pressure to high pressure of 15MPa. The contact normal force and stress in wavy O-rings in which is developed for this analysis are uniformly distributed along the flange and the wall of the rectangular groove. And the normal sealing forces are also kept high compared to other contact sealing models such as the conventional O-ring and X-ring, Thus, the FEM computed results indicate that the sealing characteristic of wavy O-rings is food compared with other contact seals.

다구찌 실험법을 이용한 O-링 형상의 최적설계 (Optimized Design of O-Ring using Taguchi Method)

  • The sealing performance of O-ring is effected in environments of the O-ring seal, like that applied pressure, working temperature, pre-compressed ratio and materials. In this paper, design of composite O-ring under pressurized, compressed was optimized based on Taguchi experimental design method. and it analysed numerically using non-linear finite element method. Ogden model in which is developed based on the experimental data is used for simulating the contact stress and strain in NBR and PTFE materials. Sensitivity analysis was performed with FEM results, which are contact stress, strain and temperature as variable.
