The Effects of the Organizational Socialization Education Program on Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment and Turnover Intention of New Nurses (조직사회화 교육 프로그램이 신규 간호사의 직무만족, 조직몰입, 이직의도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was aimed to investigate the effects of Organizational Socialization Education Program on new nurse's job satisfaction, organizational commitment and turnover intention. This study was utilized a non equvalent control group post only design. The subjects of this study were total 76 nurses in total. Data were collected from 1st to 31th July, 2012. For the experimental group, 16 hours lectures on Organizational Socialization Education Program was given. Data were analyzed by Frequency, X2, Fisher's Exact test & t-test. The findings of this study were as the followings: As proposed in the hypothesis, the subjects in the experimental group experienced more job satisfaction(t= -2.10, p=.039), more organization commitment(t= -2.68, p=.009), less perceived turnover intention(t= 4.65, p=.000), than those in the control group. The results of this study shows that Organizational Socialization Education Program is considered an effective program to improve job satisfaction, organizational commitment and to lessen turnover intention for new nurses. The Organizational Socialization Education program would be continually necessary to contribute to development of professional nursing occupation.

An Evaluation of the Home Care Nursing Services Conducted jointly by Catholic Churches and Hospital (일부 가톨릭교회와 연계된 병원중심 가정간호사업의 평가)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the outcomes of the home care nursing program conducted jointly by thirty two catholic churches and C hospital in Seoul. Method: The subjects included 173 patients who registered for the program during a 4 month-period from November 1, 2004 to February 28, 2005 and received home care services for more than 4 times and 32 professional nurses participating in the program. Using the concept of medical outcome study (MOS), the structure, process, outcome elements were analyzed. Result: 1) A Catholic homecare nursing center and nurses of the C hospital played a central role in providing nursing care, and each church operated its own vehicle from its own office. Home care nurse's job satisfaction was 2.8 out of total score of 4. The major illness was cerebrovascular disease including stroke followed by skeletomuscular disease including degenerative arthritis cancer, and diabetes. Among reasons for accessing the home care nursing program, hypertension management was most prevalent. More than half of the registration was done through catholic churches. Most people who referred the patient to the program was through the church. Most patients received home care nursing 1-2 times a week for 30 to 60 minutes in average and the most frequent type of service provided was basic nursing. 3) The most frequent reason for terminating home care services was death. The change in PPS(Palliative Performance Scale) level from the time of registration and after 4 visits was the same in 45%, decreased in 30%, and improved in 25%. Patient satisfaction was very high, showing 3.4 out of total score of 4. Conclusion: These results proved that the home care nursing program was highly appreciated by subjects and nurses were providing professional care. Thus the two parties involved in the program were actively supporting the program to fulfill their mission. However, several areas needed to be improved such as relating with local community, relating with family doctor, and issue of improving the working conditions for home care nurses.

Effects of Emotional Labor, Emotional Intelligence and Social Support on Job Stress in Clinical Nurses (임상 간호사의 감정노동, 감성지능 및 사회적 지지가 직무스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of emotional labor, emotional intelligence and social support on job stress in clinical nurses. Methods: Participants were 123 clinical nurses and data were collected from October to December, 2011 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS 18.0. Results: A positive correlation was found between job stress and emotional labor. Emotional labor showed a significant negative correlation with emotional intelligence and social support, whereas a positive correlation was found between emotional intelligence and social support. The strongest predictor of job stress was emotional labor. In addition, institution satisfaction (dissatisfaction) and the reason for selecting the job (opportunities for service) accounted for 21% of variance in job stress. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that it is important to manage emotional labor as well as to improve job satisfaction in order to reduce job stress in clinical nurses.

The Effects of Planned Discharge Nursing in Compliance, Knowledge, and Nursing Service Satisfaction for Patients having Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (계획된 퇴원 간호 중재가 기흉 수술 환자의 약물복용 및 치료 지시 이행도, 질병에 대한 지식과 간호 만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aimed to develop a planned discharge nursing intervention guideline for patients with pneumothorax, and to examine its influence on drug compliance, knowledge about disease, compliance level with therapeutic regimen, and nursing satisfaction. Methods: The planned discharge nursing intervention guideline was developed based on comprehensive literature reviews and clinical experiences. Patients having video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery at a single general hospital were allocated to either intervention (n=30) or control group (n=29). Participants in the intervention group were administered planned discharge nursing intervention thrice, 30 minutes each, by a cardiovascular nurse. Standard care was provided to patients in the control group. Data were collected from March, 2010 to December, 2010. Results: Participants in the intervention group presented statistically significant improvement in drug compliance (t=-2.05, p=0.044), pill count (t=-2.61, p=0.011), knowledge about disease (t=-4.39, p=0.001), and nursing satisfaction (t=-4.13, p=0.001). No significant difference in compliance levels was observed with standard therapeutic regimen. Conclusion: Planned discharge nursing intervention can be successfully implemented for patients undergoing thoracoscopic surgery. Further research is required to evaluate long-term effects like complication or relapse.

  • This study was performed to develop the conceptual framework of the nursing productivity. The study efforts were made (1) to define the concept the nursing productivity, (2) to identify the elements of the productivity, and (3) to determine the relationship among the elements. With the aim, the study employed a descriptive analysis by way of reviewing various references related w the subject. The nursing productivity consists of such elements as the nursing efficiency and Lhe nursing effectiveness which are complememary Lo each other. The nursing efficiency is the quantative input/output ratio, while the nursing effectiveness represents the integrated outcome of sch sub-elements as the degree of accomplishing nursing goals, the quality of nursing service, consumer's satisfaction, and the degree of improvement of nurse's attitude toward the quality care. The nursing prodiccivity can be estimated by summing up the nursing efficiency and the effectiveness. By employing the system theory model, the elements of the nursing producTivity consist of three elements; the input, the process, and the output. By the process elements, the system inputs are transformed to the system outputs nursing efficiency and nursing effecitveness which are input 1.0 the system, in turn, through feedback mechanism(Figure 4).

Recognition and satisfaction of dental care customers after 1 year national health insurance coverage of dental scaling (스케일링 건강보험 급여화 시행 1년 후 치과의료소비자의 인식도 및 만족도 조사)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the recognition and satisfaction of dental care customers after 1 year national health insurance coverage of dental scaling. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 477 dental care customers in Gyeongbuk, Busan, Yangsan, and Gyeonggido from July 18 to September 30, 2014 after receiving informed consents. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(5 items), subjective awareness of oral health(4 items), recognition of scaling(5 items), and recognition and satisfaction of scaling health insurance(5 items). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 program. Results: Those who recognized the national health insurance coverage of dental scaling accounted for 80.1 percent and 47.2 percent of them got the health insurance coverage via media advertisements. Those who received the scaling service by health insurance coverage accounted for 73.8% and 66.2% of them were very satisfied with the service. Among the customers, 91.8% were satisfied with scaling health allotment. There was a statistical significance between scaling health insurance and subjective oral condition recognition(p<0.01). Through the health insurance coverage scaling service, the oral health in Korea will improve much. Conclusions: The expansion of health insurance coverage of scaling service will provide the universal oral health care for all people. Owing to low cost service, people will actively try to come in contact with public health service in the future.

Nursing Research Trend in Long-Term Care Systems in Korea (노인장기요양제도 내 간호관련 연구 동향과 시사점)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to explore the trend of nursing research in the Korean long-term care system. Methods: Articles published between 2008 and 2021 were searched using the terms "long-term care system" and "nursing." Ninety-one articles were analyzed and classified into five categories according to research methods. Data were extracted through a systematic review process and underwent descriptive statistics and content analyses. Results: The most analyzed variable in the survey studies was job satisfaction. Many variables were classified into input and output factors using Donabedian's model. The content analysis showed that most suggestions were about improving the political regulation system. Conclusion: It is necessary to establish a research foundation to provide research funding and support to cultivate future nursing research in long-term care. Systematic improvement of research in nursing should be continuously pursued to revitalize nursing services, expand nursing service interventions, and improve management competency programs in nursing institutions.

Comparison of satisfaction and need on nursing service perceived by the patients and nurses (입원환자와 간호사의 간호요구도 및 간호서비스 만족도 비교연구)

  • This study evaluates the need of nursing (NN) and satisfaction on nursing service (SNS) in patients and nurses. Questionnaires were completed by 105 patients and 105 nurses in one hospital. The mean score of NN was 3.73±0.76 for patients and 3.88±0.60 for nurses (t=9.23, p<.001). The top score came from cure territory, while the lowest from physical territory in both patients and nurses. The mean score of SNS was 3.35±0.74 for patients and 3.31±0.44 for nurses (t=3.88, p<.001). The top score came from cure territory, while the lowest from physical territory in both patients and nurses. When NN and SNS are compared, the score of NN was higher than that of SNS in both patients (t=3.77, p<.001) and nurses (t=9.23, p<.001). As a result, they provided unsatisfactory nursing services, although nurses worked hard to improve them. Nurse administrators should develop strategies and apply them.

A Study of Activities and Demand on Welfare Nursing in Korea (사회복지분야의 간호활동실태 및 간호수요에 관한 연구)

  • Social security is concerned with ensuring all citizens maintain basic needs, community health nursing maintains and promotes health for all community members. Lately, This new area of community health nursing, concern social welfare has increased. The objectives of this study are, first, to analysis the activities of nurses at community social welfare institutes, second, to estimate nursing demand for social welfare areas. The study methods used were as literature review, an analysis of statistical data and case study etc. The analytical framework also included a demand analysis of nursing manpower in community social welfare areas. The major results are as follows; 1. Employees which work at social welfare institutes number 55,464, nursing manpower (including nurse aids) number 1,458 and this is 3% of the total employees. Within nursing manpower, nurses number 780, nurse aids number 670. 2. The rates of nurses among total employees were high in institutes for mental disorders and institutes for the age. 3. The salary level of nurses was lower than average and the rates of retirement showed a roughly middle level in welfare institutes. 4. The satisfaction level of nursing services was high, and it is the trend that nurses substitute for nurse aids which retire at social welfare institutes. 5. Nurse demand that follows legal criteria is 2,221, but only 35% are working. It is therefore insufficient from the minimum of 733 to a maximum 1433. 6. The sufficiency rates by institution were high at institutes for vagrants, aged and the handicapped. In conclusion, the conditions are of nurses which are working in with the social welfare institutes are poor. Also the number of nurses compared rates of demand were in surplus. But, the basic direction of welfare policy is universal-preventive and provision of the family and of community centered service, and nursing service demand in the social welfare institute will increase continuously, we predict. Therefore, we will need a positive plan such as the development of an inservice education program and the construction of an information collection system etc.

Experience of Nurses Participating in Comprehensive Nursing Care (간호·간병통합서비스를 적용한 병동 간호사의 환자간호 경험)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the experience of nurse in comprehensive nursing care. Methods: Experiential data collected from 9 nurses through in-depth interviews. Participants were selected from nurses working in the comprehensive nursing care unit at general hospital. The main question was "Can you describe your experience in the comprehensive nursing care unit?" All interviews were recorded and transcribed, then analyzed using Colaizzi's method. Results: Nine themes were derived from the analysis: 'Practice nursing care', 'Feel thankful of the client', 'Difficulty in nursing due to absence of patients' guardian', 'Tired of over-demanding patient and distrust of guardian', 'Confusion regarding one's identity as a nurse', 'Not enough to support system', 'Insufficient pre-training for nurse and client', 'Requirement of work establishment for nurse and nurse aid', 'Concerns about low rewards and high safety accidents'. Conclusion: As a comprehensive nursing service, the nurses provided total patient care, and patient satisfaction and expression of appreciation increased. However, disadvantages were identified, such as patients' excessive needs, communication difficulties, lack of support systems, low compensation, and a high number of safety accidents. Therefore, systematic comprehensive nursing will be achieved if these shortcomings are addressed.
