Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct, develop, and apply a nursing information system (NIS) using NANDA-NOC-NIC linkage in medical-surgical nursing units. Methods: This study consisted of three phases which were the construction of the database, development of the NIS, and application of the NIS. To construct the database, a questionnaire and nursing record review by an expert group were used. Collected data were analyzed by the SPSS/WIN 13.0 program. Results: In first phase, the database was made up of 50 nursing diagnoses, 127 nursing outcomes and 300 nursing interventions. In the second phase, NIS was developed according to its flow diagram and then tested. In the third phase, the developed NIS was applied to 130 inpatients. Nursing diagnoses frequently used were acute pain, delayed surgical recovery, and deficient knowledge (specify). Nursing outcomes for a nursing diagnosis of 'acute pain' were identified as pain control, pain level and comfort level. Nursing interventions for the nursing outcome 'pain control' were pain management, patient controlled analgesia assistance and medication management. Conclusion: The results of this study will facilitate the use of the newly proposed NIS in nursing practice and provide a guideline for evidence-based nursing.

In the complexity and diversity of modern society, there is an urgent need for an information system which can systematically collect, manage and analyze data. Especially in the discipline of nursing, a nursing informarion system is necessary to maximize nursing resources and improve nursing care in the present system which is faced with increases in client needs and multiple changes in hospital environments. This research was done to provide a basis for the development of an integrative nursing information system for the future, by designing dababases items which were extracted from an analysis of the ward nursing information system on general wards excluding the OPD, ICU, OR and CSR with functions using a different system from the wards, and the design of output screen used the database items. The ward nursing information system was analysed through analysis of nursing practice related to recordings, such as the worksheet, kardex, and other nursing practice recordings, on 25 wards. The development of the database was the part of the construction of hospital information system and used the database development life cycle which is related to the system development life cycle. The database development steps included selection of database management system and design of a physical database following the principles of the order communication system which is been developing at Y University Hospital. Conceptual database and Logical database were designed using the base of 25 data items and fields derived from analysing the worksheet, the data items and fields derived from the kardex and other nursing practice recording, from these 19 data base tables were framed through transforming the relational database. Through this process, four types of output material for nursing practice recording which nurses can carry and use during their nursing practice were produced.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is developing the nursing information system which contains the core elements of nursing practice, the Nursing Minimum Data Set (NMDS) that should be collected and documented all the settings in which nursing care is provided. Method: The program was developed under the hospital information system by TCP/IP protocol and used NANDA, Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) to fill out the elements of NMDS. The Oracle was used as DBMS under the Windows 98 environment and Power Builder 5.0 was used as a program language. Results: This study developed linkage among the NANDA-NOC-NIC to facilitate choosing correct nursing diagnosis, interventions, and outcomes and stimulate nurses' critical thinking. Also the system developed includes nursing care sensitive patient outcomes, so nurses can actively involve in nursing effectiveness research by analyzing the data stored in the database or by making relational databases with other health care related databases. Conclusion: The program developed in this study ultimately can be used for the nursing research, policy development, reimbursement of nursing care, and calculating staffing and nursing skill mix by providing tool to describe and organize nursing practice and measure the nursing care effectiveness.
This study was done to develop and validate a path model for the causal relationship of nursing information literacy competency and problem solving, self-direct learning, and clinical performance ability of nursing students. Subject were 208 nursing students in the fourth grade of nursing school. Data were collected from June 4 to June 18, 2018. The nursing information literacy competency of nursing students showed direct effects on problem solving ability (${\gamma}=.70$, p<.001) and direct effects on self-directed learning ability (${\gamma}=.53$, p<.001). Nursing information literacy competency showed direct (${\gamma}=.31$, p<.001) and indirect effects (${\gamma}=.31$, p=.007) on clinical performance ability. These variables explained for 46.2% of clinical performance ability. Therefore, it is recommended to develop an education program that can enhance the nursing information literacy competency for improving the problem solving, self-directed learning, and clinical performance ability of nursing students.

The purpose of this research conducted has been an the development of a computer program to be used for nursing of spinal cord injury patients. The research is also intended to contribute by supplying the basic data, to the development of other programs in relevant areas where similar nursing information system is required. This research used System Development Life Cycle method. Results from the study were as follows : The scope of Information System in nursing practice were based on a wide range of mateials as charts at four hospitals in Pusan that cover the nursing period of spinal cord injury patients from admission to discharge and other sources of reference, the research is done for nursing diagnosis, nursing history, admission and discharge education, and the performing of doctor's order, which were divided into a subsystem that consisted of help, Patient Management, Performing of Docter's Order, and Basic Data Management and then these was analysed systematically using Hierachy Plus Input Process Output, necessary information, data flow diagram, and conceptual designs were developed for chosem system. Furthemore, the system has been programed by a conceptual design that includes the objects of the program and the origins of the sources. The oder to make sure of the proper function, the computer program was actually applied to a nursing practice that had been developed for a hypothetical situation through the two nurses who were in charge of spinal cord injury patients after they were trained to understand the structure and the contents of computer program about the nursing practice from using the computer program developed. Also, the compensatory strategy has been worked out against any problems to arise. It is expected that this kind of nursing practice information system to be used for the spinal cord injury patients that has been developed through the processes shown above will increase the satisfaction for both patients and nurses by enabling them to give more professional advice and service to the development of more information systems for many hospitals.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the nursing care needs which can properly cope with patients' needs in emergency room, and grasp the patients' satisfaction level which can assess the care quality. It was aimed to check the level of today's care and provide basic data for care performance and care standard. Method : Data were collected from 192 patients in general hospitals in Daegu. The results are as followed. Results : First, the result of analysis conducted on the degree of overall patients' need for nursing care revealed that the need for nursing information (4.21+57) was the highest, followed by the order of information of patient's condition (4.05+53), emotional support (3.98+47), and nursing participation (3.65+54). Secondly, our study revealed that there was a significant negative correlat interrelation between care need and care satisfaction (r=.516, p<.01), indicating the higher the overall emergency room patients' nursing care need, treatment and nursing information, patient's condition, emotional support and nursing participation were, the lower the actual feeling of their satisfaction turned out. Conclusion : The study shows that treatment and nursing related information is the most highly needed and the patients' satisfaction level relies on actual care participation.

Purpose: This study was to identify the factors affecting utilization of clinical nurses' hospital information system. Method: Using a convenient sampling, 450 nurses from 9 secondary or tertiary university hospitals in B metropolitan city were selected. Results: The extent that nurses utilize the hospital information system was 3.22 point on average. The hospital information system utilization was positively correlated with personal information utilization skill, information-oriented education, attitude toward computer, and support of the chief manager, while as negatively correlated with the organizational atmosphere. The causal factors of influencing on the hospital information system utilization were personal information technology, education experience of the hospital information system, age, attitude toward computers, education level and support of the chief manager. The total eigenvalue of the variables was 38%. The major variables of influencing on the hospital information system utilization were the personal information technology and education experience of the hospital information system. Conclusions: Thus, nurse managers should provide training courses to improve personal information technology of nurses, and consistently promote them so that nurses can readily apply the hospital information system which have been recently introduced in various ways and thus improve the efficiency of nursing.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different methods of information delivery(information provided by nurses vs. information provided by video) on environmental stress and the satisfaction of nursing needs in families of intensive care unit patients. Methods: A nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The data were collected from March 24 to May 7, 2009. The subjects, 52 family members of ICU patients (26 for the control group, 26 for the experimental group), were selected from a hospital located in Gyeonggido. Information was given by video to the experimental group whereas the information was directly given by nurses to the control group. Results: Environmental stress and satisfaction of nursing needs were not statistically different between the two groups. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that the information given by video may be compatible with that given by nurses. Therefore, nurses need to be flexible in using these different methods to maximize the benefits of direct and indirect information delivery method for families in ICU setting.
