Purpose: Based on the results of a survey on college freshmen's smoking this study examined the application of smoking cessation programs. Methods: The opinions of 89 smokers who were college freshmen were investigated and analyzed using a survey questionnaire. Results: Among the survey respondents, the largest percentage (47.2%) replied 'little satisfied' to the question on the with campus life. Of the participants, 57.3% considered that their health state was bad because of smoking. As to motives for smoking, 'curiosity' was most frequent. Smokers had more smoking friends than nonsmoking ones. The 82% of the smokers had experience in stopping smoking. Among smoking cessation methods, the self overcoming was most frequent(50.6%). During the survey, 28 smokers applied for the cessation program and they favored e-mails for information. E-mails were sent to them once in a week for 6 weeks and short messages were sent to their cell phone in order to encourage them to read the e-mails. Conclusions: To encourage and maintain smoking cessation, it is recommended to have a personalized or small group program. More researches are needed to execute the program and evaluate results. Colleges need to have an innovative approach on smoking prevention and cessation services.

Method: The subjects of this study were 338 freshmen at A University, located in B City. The questionnaire had 34 questions and the collected data was analyzed with t-test, $x^2$-test, and multiple regressions. Result: The average points of the subjects' health habits were 6.01 for male and 5.65 for female, showing a median range. Concern about health (male 13.63 points, female 13.10 points) and satisfaction with their own body (male 8.26 points, female 7.71 points) showed no significant difference between males and females. Females had more concern about their body (p=.001), and males' satisfaction with health was higher than females', which was statistically significant (p=.0.41). As for factors that have an effect on health habits, male students had health concerns ($\beta$=.395), health satisfaction ($\beta$=.212), and body concerns ($\beta$=-.209), and female students had health concerns ($\beta$=.317) and health satisfaction ($\beta$=.139). Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self-regulated learning ability of freshmen in nursing college on the learning persistence intention, and to determine if their learning motivation meditates the relationship between them. Methods: The study design was based on descriptive research. Data were collected from 146 nursing freshmen studying at a university in D city from June 5, 2017 to June 7, 2017. Results: There was a positive correlation among learning persistence intention, self-regulated learning ability (r=.57, p<.001) and learning motivation (r=.60, p<.001). Also, it was found that learning motivation was positively correlated with self-regulated learning ability (r=.79, p<.001). According to the Sobel test results, the learning motivation had a complete mediating effect (${\beta}=.39$, p<.001) between self-regulated learning ability and learning persistence intention (Z=3.63, p<.001). Conclusion: Therefore, this study suggests developing a learning motivation program to improve self-regulated learning ability and learning persistence intention of nursing students during their freshman year.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of Career Education Program(CEP) on freshmen of nursing department. A non-equivalent pre-post test of quasi-experimental design was used. 44 freshmen were assigned to an intervention group and 36 freshmen to a control group. The intervention program was composed of introduction, self-navigation, explore the world of work, career design and termination during 12 weeks from March to June, 2014. Data were collected before-and after program, and analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program. There were significant increases in learning motivation (t=8.92, p<.001) and college life adaptation (t=3.51, p<.001) in the experimental group compared to the control group. This study suggests that CEP would be an efficient way to adapt to school and take learning motivation for nursing students. It is necessary to develop a systematic and tailored career education program for nursing students from a freshmen to a senior.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of 'affirmative language' experiment upon freshmen nursing students' negative affect, self-efficacy and stress coping style. Methods: A nonequivalent control quasi-experiment was conducted on the subjects of 55 freshmen nursing students for 26(experimental group) and 29(control group). Data were analyzed using x2-test and t-test for participants' homogeneity test and conducted content analysis of process diary record and personal impressions. Results: As for negative affect, in case of the experimental group, depression(t=-2.384, p=.022) and anxiety(t=-2.243, p=.025) were significantly low with no difference for the control group. As for self-efficacy, both experimental and control groups showed significance and as for stress coping style, the control group used sub-categorized strategies better than the experimental group. There were 4 topics and subsequent 15 topics derived from the content analysis. 'Affirmative language' experiment showed alleviation of depression and anxiety helpful for study participants in self-reporting measurement, and helpful for stress self-management competence. Conclusion: It is necessary to connect the curriculum operation with interest of competence and practice of students stress self-management through the participating experiment experience.
Purpose: This study was to identify the types of subjectivity on PBL experience of freshmen in nursing students. Method: This study is exploratory research through Q methodology. From 102 Q populations, we selected 31 Q sorting was done by 25 of P sample. When the Q sorting is completed on nine point scale, we interviewed participants and documented their responses. The data was analyzed by using QUNAL program. Result: The result of the study showed 4 types. Four factors provided an explanation for 71.6% of total variances, and these four factors were analyzed and categorized as four types. We named type 1 as [positive pressure], type 2 as [relational friendly], type 3 as [creative benefit], type 4 as [paticipatory development]. Conclusion: In this study, PBL was valuable experience and recognized as a variety of perspectives for freshmen in nursing students. These findings indicate we suggest that planning of strategy for efficient operation on PBL was reflected above results.

Purpose: This purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) counseling program on self-efficacy and adjustment to college life for nursing freshmen. Methods: This study used a nonequivalent control pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. Thirty-eight new nursing students were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=18) or a control group (n=20) recruited from a four-year nursing college. An REBT counseling program was composed of 8 group sessions of orientation, understanding the theory of REBT, finding irrational beliefs, internalizing rational beliefs, and closing over a duration of 5 weeks. The duration of each session was 90 minutes. Self-efficacy and adjustment to school life were measured by the Sherer's Self-Efficacy Scale and Baker & Siryk's Student Adjustment to College before and after the REBT counseling program. Data were analyzed using t-tests and paired t-tests. Results: The experimental group showed a significant improvement in self-efficacy compared to the control group. There was no significant change in college life adjustment between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: An REBT counseling program could be applied as an effective program in enhancing self-efficacy resulting in positive and goal-oriented behavior for new nursing students in college.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of nursing students' self-leadership, humanity, and resilience on college life adaptation. The subjects of this study were 190 freshmen from the Department of Nursing in C city. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tset, ANOVA, pearson correlation, and multiple regression. As a result, the factors that have a significant influence on the college life adaptation were self-leadership, personality, resilience, school life satisfaction, and the number of friends. Humanity was the most influential factor(β=.659, p<.001) in college life adaptation, followed by self-leadership(β=.274, p=.001), and number of friends(β=.258, p=.003). The explanatory power of the model was 51.2%(F=40.72, p<.001). In addition, there was a high positive correlation between self-leadership, humanity, resilience and college life adaptation. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a program that can help college life adaptation by improving the personality and self-leadership of freshmen in nursing.
