  • In Korea, the number of national facilities for which a safety inspection is mandatory is increasing, and a safer safety inspection method is needed. This study aimed to increase the efficiency of the bridge safety inspection by enabling rapid exterior inspection while securing the safety of inspectors by using drones to perform the safety inspections of bridges, which had mainly relied on visual inspections. For the research, the Youngjong Grand Bridge in Incheon was selected as a test bed and was divided into four parts: the warren truss, suspension bridge main cable, main tower, and pier. It was possible to establish a five-step standard procedure for drone safety inspections. The step-by-step contents of the standard procedure obtained as a result of this research are: Step 1, facility information collection and analysis, Step 2, analysis of vulnerable parts and drone flight planning, Step 3, drone photography and data processing, Step 4, condition evaluation by external inspection, Step 5, building of external inspection diagram and database. Therefore, if the safety inspections of civil engineering facilities including bridges are performed according to this standard procedure, it is expected that these inspection can be carried out more systematically and efficiently.

  • The physical properties of DME(Dimethyl Ether) are very similar to LPG and well-mixed. As cetane number of DME is similar to diesel fuel that can replace diesel fuel and alternative energy. DME is a clean energy source that can be manufactured from various raw materials such as natural gas, CBM(Coal Bed Methane) and biomass. DME has no carbon-carbon bond in its molecular structure and its combustion essentially generates no soot as well as no SOx. The development of DME process in KOGAS have 4 section. First, syngas section can be manufactured various syngas ratio. This completes the tri-reforming process for the synthesis gas ratio of approximately 4.0 to 1.0 range can be adjusted. Second, $CO_2$ is removed from the $CO_2$ removal section of about 92~99%, so the maximum concentration of $CO_2$ entering the DME synthesis reactor should not exceed 8%. Third, in the DME synthesis section, if the temperature of DME reactor increases, the activity of DME catalyst increased. but for the long-term activity is desirable to maintain the proper temperature. Finally, the purity of DME in the DME purification section is over 99.6%.

  • The Effects of operating variables on reactivity of two $CO_2$ absorbents (PKM1-SU and P4-600) for SEWGS process were investigated in a pressurized fluidized bed reactor. For both $CO_2$ absorbents, $CO_2$ sorption capacity decreased as the number of absorption-regeneration cycles increased. PKM1-SU absorbent represented higher $CO_2$ sorption capacity than that of P4-600 absorbent. However, P4-600 absorbent represented better performance than PKM1-SU absorbent from the view points of regeneration temperature and regeneration rate. For PKM1-SU absorbent, $CO_2$ sorption capacity increased as the steam concentration increased. However, $CO_2$ sorption capacity increased initially as the steam concentration increased from 5% to 10%, but maintained thereafter for P4-600 absorbent. For both $CO_2$ absorbents, $CO_2$ sorption capacity increased as the final regeneration temperature increased. For PKM1-SU absorbent, $CO_2$ sorption capacity increased as the pressure increased and the increment tendency was drastic at higher pressure than 15 bar.

  • Purpose : Our goals were to determine the frequency of headaches and backaches occurring as a side effect following lumbar puncture in children, and to investigate various factors that might influence the frequency of headaches and backaches. Methods : From October 2004 to February 2006, we enrolled 148 patients aged 2 to 15 years who received diagnostic lumbar puncture at the Presbyterian Medical Center, Chonju, Korea. Patient data were collected for age, sex, number of puncture attempts, volume of cerebrospinal fluid(CSF), bevel orientation of puncture needle, cell count in CSF, periods of absolute bed rest, and the frequency and duration of headaches and backaches. Results : Headaches occurred in 8 patients and backaches occurred in 40 patients. Headaches were found both to occur significantly more frequently in patients over age 10 and to last longer when the bevel orientation of the puncture needle was inserted toward the cranium rather than laterally. Backaches lasted longer in males than in females. The other factors evaluated showed no relationship at all to the frequency and duration of headaches and backaches. Conclusion : Following lumbar puncture, headaches were common in patients over age 10, and lasted longer when the bevel orientation was toward the cranium. Backaches lasted longer in males than in females. In light of these findings, we recommend taking special care when performing lumbar puncture for CSF examination in patients over age 10.

  • Since GNSS signals get blocked by buildings in urban canyons or narrow alleys, it is very difficult to secure a enough number of visible satellites for satellite navigation in those poor signal-reception environments. In those situations, one cannot get their coordinates or obtain accurate positions. In this study, a couple of strategies for improving positioning accuracy in urban canyons were developed and their performance was verified. First of all, we combined GPS and GLONASS measurements together and devised algorithms to quality-control observed signals and eliminate outliers. Also, a new multipath reduction scheme was applied to minimize its effect by utilizing SNR values of the observed signals. For performance verification of the developed technique, a narrow alley of 10m width located near the back gate of the Inha University was selected as the test-bed, and then we conducted static and kinematic positioning at four pre-surveyed points. We found that our new algorithms produced an 45% improvement in an open-sky environment compared with the positioning result of a low-cost u-blox receiver. In the alleys, 3-D accuracy improved by an average of 37%. In the case of kinematic positioning, especially, biases showing up in regular receivers got eliminated significantly through our new filtering algorithms.

  • The PET scanner can detect the photon pair arriving from the source in phantom. The number of light photons released by the crystal(scintillator-BGO or LSO). In recent scintillation crystals in block structures were incorporated into full ring systems, and their resulted marked improvement in spatial resolution and increase in a sensitivity to annihilations. The uniformity of the crystal sensitivity is very important to makes correct information of abnormal states in organs. These factors influenced by the dection efficiency of the scintillators. We have study about the uniformity of crystals to the annihilation, And study about the standard deviation to average counts. The relative standard deviation in central detector groups more uniformed than circumferenced detector groups. It is caused detected quanta of gamma ray by the geometrical factors of PET detector. PET cameras are available with different geometric arrangement and several parallel rings oriented in the axial direction. The center groups from 7th to 40th groups are comparatively uniform and sensitive. But at the circumferenced detectors decreased the sensitivity and uniformity.

  • Cellular glass foam (CGF), the reprocessed glass, has a possibility to be used as a medium component in plug culture of horticultural crops due to the its excellent air and water permeability as comparable to perlite. An experiment was conducted to investigate growth of plug seedlings of Lycopersicum esculentum 'Segye' as influenced by irrigation frequency in various medium combinations of CGF (2.0-4.0 mm particle size) and peatmoss. Seeds were sown in 200-cell plug trays, filled with mixtures of CGF and peatmoss either at 33:67 or 25:75 (%. v/v) and were germinated on a fogged propagation bed. The irrigation frequencies used were one, two or three times per every two days. A commercial plug medium (Tosilee medium) was used as the control, and the irrigation frequency in the control was one time per day. Growth of seedlings, and medium pH and EC were measured at 33 days after sowing. The medium composition had little influence on overall growth of seedlings. Irrigation frequency very significant affected number of leaves, leaf area, chlorophyll concentration, fresh and dry weights of shoots and roots, and dry matter. Growth of seedlings was the greatest with the highest irrigation frequency in the 25% CGF+75% peatmoss mixture.

  • Development of vegetation in stream channel increases resistance to flow, resulting in increase in river stage upon flood and affecting change in stage-discharge relationship. Vegetation revealed in stream by water level reaching a peak and then declined upon flood is mostly found as prone. Taking an account of flow distribution with the number of vegetation, prone vegetation layer might be at height where discharge rate is zero (0) (Stephan and Guthnecht, 2002). However, there is a tendency that flow rate is overestimated when applying the height of river bed to flow area with no consideration of the height of vegetation layer in flow rate by float measurement. In this study, reliable flow measurement in stream with vegetation was calculated by measuring the height of vegetation layer after flood and excluding the vegetation layer-projected area from the flow area. The result showed the minimum 4.34 % to maximum 10.82 % of flow deviation depending on the scale of discharge. Accordingly, reliable velocity-area methods would be determined if vegetation layer-projected area in stream is considered in flow rate estimation using the flow area during the flood.

  • The lipids from the seeds of Pinus koraiensis mostly composed of triacylglycerols (TGs), in which linoleic acid (46.2 mol%) and oleic acid (25.6 mol%) are present as main components in the fatty acid composition. Surprisingly, they also have unusual fatty acids with ${\Delta}^5$-double bond systems such as ${\Delta}^{5.9.12}-C_{18:3}$ (16.0 mol%), ${\Delta}^{5.9}-C_{18:2}$ (2.3 mol%) and ${\Delta}^{5.11.14}-C_{20:3}$ (0.8 mol%). Saturated fatty acids of palmitic, stearic and arachidic acid were present in less than 8.0 mol%. TG was resolved into 17 fractions by reverse-phase HPLC according to so-called partition number (PN) suggested by Plattner, in which TG molecules with ${\Delta}^{5}$-NMDB acyl chains eluted later than did those with ${\Delta}^{9}$-MDB acyl radicals. $Ag^+$-HPLC separated the TG into 14 fractions more clearly than did those with ${\Delta}^{9}$-MDB acyl radicals. $Ag^+$-HPLC separated the TG into 14 fractions more clearly than did reverse-phase HPLC, and the complexity of ${\Delta}^{5.9.12}-C_{18:3}$ moiety with silver ion impregnated in the column bed was in the level between ${\Delta}^{9.12.15}-C_{18:3}$ ($C_{18:3{\omega}3}$) and $C_{18:2{\omega}6}$ (${\Delta}^{9.12}-C_{18:2}$). In the $Ag^+$-HPLC, it was found that the molecular species having a given-numbered double bonds widely spreaded in the acyl chains eluted earlier than those concentrated in one acyl chain. The main molecular species are $(C_{18:2{\omega}6})_2/{\Delta}^{5.9.12}-C_{18:3}$ (14.8 mol%), $C_{18:1{\omega}9}/C_{18:2{\omega}6})_2$ (12.8 mol%) and $C_{18:1{\omega}9}/C_{18:2{\omega}6}/{\Delta}^{5.9.12}-C_{18:3}$ (10.9 mol%).

  • These days open source softwares are being introduced and applied in many countries in the world. Especially, both government and private companies tend to become an spearhead in vitalizing the open source software. In this paper we try to check the degree of vitalizations in open source GIS software and to draw implications in vitalizing ecosystem of open source GIS software. Key players of open source GIS software ecosystem are government, private companies, academic and research institutes, and nonprofit foundations. Government does not have very little policies related to the investment and the support of open source GIS software. Private companies related to the open source GIS software are very few in the number and do not have any clear business model to make a profit. Academic and research institutes are weak in using the open source GIS software, which can be an major obstacle to cultivate software developers. OSGeo Korean branch, established in 2009, is the only nonprofit foundation in Korea which makes an effort to vitalize the open source GIS software, but its results are not very strong up to now in view of both quality and invigoration. In order to vitalize the open source GIS software ecosystem, lots of efforts of key players are needed. Especially, government efforts are very important because it can provide a trigger in vitalizing the open source GIS software ecosystem. The tasks that government should propel are R&D investment, test bed projects in the area of public sector, professional manpower training, and international cooperation and marketing.
