A group G is said to satisfy the maximal condition on infinite normal subgroups if there does not exist an infinite properly ascending chain of infinite normal subgroups. We characterize the structure of locally nilpotent groups satisfying this chain condition. We then show how to construct locally nilpotent groups with the maximal condition on infinite normal subgroups, but not the maximal condition on subgroups.

A new stress, load and displacement controlled direct shear apparatus has recently been developed at the Hyundai Institute of Construction Technology This direct shear apparatus is capable of testing of rock joint under constant normal stiffness, constant normal stress or constant normal load boundary conditions. This paper describes this direct shear apparatus and illustrates results of shear tests at constant normal stress condition, constant normal load condition and constant normal stiffness condition with dental stones which have a same joint roughness and unconfined compressive strength.

Thermal analyses have been carried out for a spent fuel dry storage cask under normal and off-normal conditions. Environmental temperature is assumed to be $15^{\circ}C$ under the normal condition. The off-normal condition has an environmental temperature of $38^{\circ}C$. An additional off-normal condition is considered as a partial blockage of the air inlet ducts. Two of the four air inlet ducts are assumed to be completely blocked. The maximum temperatures of the fuel rod and concrete overpack were lower than the allowable values under the normal condition. Temperature distributions for the off-normal conditions were slightly higher than the normal conditions.

We characterize the structure of locally nilpotent groups satisfying this chain condition.

Extreme value theory concerns the distributional properties of the maximum of a random sample; subsequently, it has been significantly extended to stationary random sequences satisfying weak dependence restrictions. We focus on distributional mixing condition $D(u_n)$ and the Berman condition based on covariance among weak dependence restrictions. The former is assumed for general stationary sequences and the latter for stationary normal processes; however, both imply the same distributional limit of the maximum of the normal process. In this paper $D(u_n)$ condition is shown weaker than Berman's covariance condition. Examples are given where the Berman condition is satisfied but the distributional mixing is not.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of vowel type on the nasalance score. Twenty one male adults without VPI produced 5 types of vowels (/a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/) in two conditions-normal and simulated VPI condition. Nasalance scores were measured for each vowel. These data were compared between conditions and among vowel types. The results were as follow : For all vowels, nasalance scores were significantly higher in simulated VPI condition than in normal condition. The two conditions yielded different patterns in terms of the degree of nasalance across the 5 vowels. In normal condition, nasalance scores were higher in front vowels than in medial or back vowels. But in simulated VPI condition, nasalance scores were higher in high vowels than in mid or low vowels.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using gauze frozen with normal saline or ice on thirstrelief and oral condition of laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group, pretest-posttest design was used. Participants (n=53) received either gauze frozen with normal saline (n=17), ice (n=18) or wet gauze (n=18) for thirst-relief. The subjective thirst level and oral condition of the participants were assessed before the intervention, 15 min after the first intervention and 15 min after the second intervention. Results: After oral care was provided twice, there were significant differences in thirst level among the groups. When oral care was provided twice, the oral condition of tongue, saliva, mucosal membrane, and gingiva was improved in patients receiving gauze frozen with normal saline or ice. Conclusion: Gauze frozen with normal saline and ice can be effective for oral care in reducing the thirst level and improving the condition of the oral cavity.

In this study, concrete what plenty of fly ash used as binder is left in three condition humid condition($35^{\circ}C$), normal condition($20^{\circ}C$) and cold condition($5^{\circ}C$). Fly ash concrete is tested in fresh properties and early strength. The result of tests could give the decisive factor of form side's stripping time. The purpose of this study is presenting the stripping time data to help the construction work. The result of this study is below. 1. The plain concrete specimen in humid condition developed high strength before 5 days, then strength development is declined. 10 day strength of plain specimen is smaller than the normal condition specimen's. 2. The strength of the concrete which plenty of fly ash used is more developed than the concrete in normal condition. It says that fly ash concrete is useful in the humid condition. 3. As fly ash substitution rate is downsizing and outdoor temperature degree is low, form stripping times is getting shorter.
