  • The wear characteristics between nonmetal and metals have been investigated using a disc on disc system. The specimens of nonmetal are made by the nylon and teflon materials. The specimens of the metal are used as eight kinds of along their hardness. The kinds of metals are copper(Hv96), aluminum(Hv186), brass(Hv234), aluminum bronze(Hv294), stainless steel(Hv327), annealing mild steel(Hv345), mild steel(Hv372), Hard steel(Hv434). In this study, a upper and lower specimens have been used the same size and shape. Using experimental data we figured the relationship between friction coefficient of nonmetal and metals. We figured the relationship between friction temperature of nonmetal and metals. The result had been verified a wear characteristics of nonmetal and metals in the wear tests.

  • $C_{60}$ is widely investigated because of its unique structure. But its applications in solid propellant seem to be relatively neglected. $C_{60}$ has more outstanding features than carbon black which is widely used as a catalyst ingredient of solid propellant. To combine the advantages of fullerene and lead salts, another good composite in propellant catalysts, we synthesized a kind of fullerene phenylalanine lead salt (FPL) and explored its thermal performances by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). The results show it undergoes four exothermic processes started from 408 K. Combined TGA and X-ray diffractometer (XRD), the decomposition mechanism of FPL was derived by TG-IR and comparing IR spectra of FPL and its residues after burned to $327^{\circ}C$, $376^{\circ}C$ and $424^{\circ}C$, respectively. Effect of FPL on the decomposition characteristic of hexogen (RDX), a type of explosive in propellant, has been investigated using DTA at different heating rate, which shows the decomposition temperatures of the explosive are all reduced by more than 20 K. The corresponding activation energy ($E_a$) is decreased by $30kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$. So FPL has potential application as a combustion catalyst in solid propellant.

  • Appropriate friction model usage is important for impact analysis because the relative motions between parts that are in contact for very short durations can vary greatly depending on the friction model. Vehicle seat components that have significant effects on impact analysis are also considered. This paper presents an experimental investigation of various material contact pairs to obtain the friction parameters of the Benson exponential friction model for impact simulation. The Coulomb friction model has limitations for impact analysis because of singularity at zero velocity. Metal/nonmetal materials are prepared, and friction tests are conducted for various sliding speeds, loads, and lubrication conditions. The obtained data are used in the friction model to implement finite element analysis. The parameters of the friction model are obtained by the curve-fitting method. The experimental results show that the friction coefficient with metal/nonmetal contact pairs is stable regardless of the working conditions. The friction model used in this study can also be applied for finite element analysis of the crash conditions, where the friction changes abruptly at the contact interface; the obtained friction parameters are also expected to be more accurate with more precise tests under different working conditions. These results can help improve the accuracy of the finite element analysis.

  • In this study, metal and nonmetal contents and their economic values in ICT devices such as smart phones and laptop computers were evaluated. The electronic devices made by LG and Samsung were disassembled into 5 parts, which are printed circuit board assembly, battery, display, case and other electronic components. Metal and nonmetal contents in these parts were analyzed, and their economic values were calculated via multiplying the materials' contents by metal price obtained from KOMIS or nonmetal exchange price acquired from Korean recycling markets. Finally, the materials' contents and values according to each electronic parts and electronic devices were calculated. The results showed that the value of the smartphones and laptop computers of LG are 4,449.6 KRW (28,506 KRW/kg) and 6,830.2 KRW (7,053 KRW/kg), and those of Samsung are 1,849.3 KRW (13,499 KRW/kg) and 6,667.5 KRW (4,831 KRW/kg), respectively. It was also found that most of the value was concentrated in batteries and printed circuit board assemblies. In addition, Co, Au and Cu were found to be the most valuable resources in the devices.

  • To meet sectoral emission target by 2020 and prepare for the emission trading scheme from 2015, decomposition analysis of energy consumption and GHG emission is required by 18 subsectors in industry sector where emission targets are established. Log Mean Divisia Index decomposition method was used to analyze factors' effects on energy and emission in the industry sector and by 18 subsectors from 2004 to 2011. Industrial energy consumption was increased due to the production effect and energy intensity effect. However structure effect contributes to the decrease of energy consumption. In terms of emissions (including indirect emission due to electricity consumption) in the industry sector, only structure effect contributed to the emission reduction. Factors' effects by subsectors were different. Cement industry, which is included at Nonmetal shows different results from those of Nonmetal industry and machinery industry, which is a subsector of Fabricated Metal, was also similar. In this regard, we should not apply the policy implications from decomposition analysis of aggregated industry such as Nonmetal or Fabricated Metal to its subsectors uniformly and develop a differentiated policy for each subsector industry.

  • This paper aims to present the evaluation of engineering characteristics and reusing possibility of waste powders produced in dolomite and limestone nonmetal mining by physical and mechanical experiments on compaction, uniaxial compressive strength, permeability, chemical composition, and so on. Granite soil, 2 types of limestone waste powder, and 1 type of dolomite waste powder were used for main materials, and cement and bentonite were used for admixed materials in this experiments. The findings based on the experimental results are the severe difference of chemical composition of the dolomite & limestone waste powder and the crushed rock waste powder, and the outstanding of engineering characteristics of the dolomite waste powder with high content of MgO compared with the limestone waste powder. The engineering properties on compaction, uniaxial compressive strength, and permeability are enhanced with increase of admixed ratio of waste powder on granite soil. From the experimental results, it can be suggested that the dolomite waste powder admixed with in-situ granite soil is useful as geo-materials with considering of distribution costs.

  • In this study, CFRP and metal or nonmetal were bonded with adhesive and the fracture study on this material was carried out. CFRP at the upper side of specimen and metal or nonmetal were assigned at the lower side of specimen by using DCB specimen as the analysis condition. And it was desribed that the structural adhesive were bonded between both upper and lower sides. As this analysis result, the least equivalent stress was shown at the specimen bonded with aluminium. The maximum shear stress was shown to become lowest at the de-bonded CFRP specimen when titanium was used. In conclusion, it was shown that the deformation of specimen became lowest when titanium was used. On the basis of this study result, the esthetic sense can be shown as the fracture data of bonded interface using adhesive are grafted onto the real life.

  • Twenty four metal, nonmetal elements and 4 major anions in total suspended particulates (TSP) collected at two sites in Daejon city from october to december in 1991 by a Hi-vol sampler were thoroughly analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma/ Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP/AES) and Ion Chromatography (IC). These analyzed data were used to perform a receptor modeling using the Chemical Mass Balance (CMB) for the source apportionment of TSP sample. Approximately 60% TSP weight in industrial complex area was influenced by potential industrial sources and 25% was by heating fuels and automobile emissions, whereas a half of TSP in residential area was influenced by surrounding environment and more than 35% of TSP was influenced by heating fuels. The CMB model provided source apportionment results reasonably and scientifically with a minor limitation.
