A disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller is proposed in this paper. The lumped disturbance to the vehicle yaw rate dynamics caused by the uncertain factors such as uncertain tire forces and parameters is estimated by the disturbance observer, which is utilized by the robust controller to stabilize the lateral dynamics of the vehicle. The dynamics of the hydraulic actuator is incorporated in the vehicle stability controller design using the model reduction technique. Modular control design methodology is adopted to effectively deal with the mismatched uncertainty. Simulation results indicate that the proposed disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller can achieve the desired reference tracking performance as well as sufficient level of robustness.

A nonlinear low-Reynolds-number k-.epsilon. model of Park and Sung was extended to predict the flows over a step with inclined wall, where a boundary layer flow without separation and a separated and reattaching flow coexist. For a better prediction of the flows, a slight modification was made on the function of the wall damping( $f_{\mu}$) and the model constant ( $C_{{\epsilon}1}$) in the .epsilon.-equation. The model performance was validated by comparing the model predictions with the experiment. It was shown that the flows over a step with inclined wall are simulated successfully with the present model.ent model.
A large eddy simulation with explicit filters on unstructured mesh is presented. Two explicit filters are adopted for reducing the aliasing error of the nonlinear convective term and measuring the level of subgrid scale velocity fluctuation, respectively. The developed subgrid scale model is basically eddy viscosity model which depends on the explicitly filtered fields and needs no additional ad hoc wall treatment such as van Driest damping function. As a validation problem, the flows around a sphere at several Reynolds numbers, including laminar and turbulent regimes, are calculated and compared to experimental data and numerical results in the literature.

The leaf spring is generally used effectively in load supporting because it has tension-diffused function in comparison with other springs. Nowadays the leaf spring is used widely in the suspensions of automobile and trains. The stiffness and the damping characteristics of the leaf spring being essential for the performance of vehicles, the exact evaluation is required. Various approximate formula are normally used for the leaf spring design. however, accuracy and trust are decreased because the contact and frictional characteristics between leaf plates are generally neglected. In this paper, nonlinear stiffness matrix of the leaf spring is solved by contact-element applying FEM for considering the contact and frictional characteristics between leaf plates. The results of proposed FE model are compared with test data.

This is the second of two companion papers concerned with the analysis and design of a pneumatic vibration isolation system. The properties of the system are clarified by observation of the transmissibility surface calculated by the models and algorithm developed in the first paper of this research. It Is shown that the nonlinear model proposed in this research is more closer to experimental results than the linear model that have been used in previous studies. The design optimization of the major design variables that affect the performance of the system is achieved by using the condition for attenuation, disturbance rejection and maximum damping in resonance peak. The design space search method is adopted for the optimization of the orifice area. The models, transmissibility calculation algorithms and design optimization techniques developed in this research are shown to be greatly helpful to the optimal design of the pneumatic vibration isolation system by experiment.
Many investigations have been conducted to find out the reason behind wind-rain-induced cable vibration in cable-stayed bridges. A single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) analytical model, which could capture main features of wind-rain-induced cable vibration, was recently presented by the writers. This paper extends the SDOF model to a 2DOF model by including the equation of motion of upper rivulet. The interaction between the upper rivulet and the cable is described in terms of nonlinear damping force, linear restoring force, and inertia force. The computed results using the 2DOF model are first compared with the results from simulated wind-rain tunnel tests, and the comparison is found satisfactory in general. The possible mechanisms of wind-rain-induced cable vibration are discussed and a parametric study is then conducted. Finally, the computed results using the 2DOF model are compared with those predicted by the SDOF model. The 2DOF model is found better than the SDOF model but the SDOF model is still acceptable for its simplicity.
In this study, the performances of the SMRF building equipped with energy dissipating devices are studied. Three types of these structures with different heights are considered. The Added Damping and Stiffness (ADAS) devices are used as energy dissipating devices in these structures. The behavior of these structures with ADAS devices subjected to near source ground motions are investigated. Three SMRF buildings with five, ten and fifteen-story, with ADAS devices were chosen. The nonlinear time history analysis was used by applying the near source ground motions with PERFORM 3D.V4 and conclusions are drawn upon an energy criterion. The effect of PGA variation and height of the frames are also considered based on the energy criterion.

The deformation characteristics of cohesionless soils in Korea were investigated using resonant column tests. Total 60 samples, which were sampled from sedimentary and residual soils and reconstituted using controlled particle-size distributions, were prepared. The confining pressure applied in the tests ranges from 20 kPa to 500 kPa. The test results ware categorized into 3 groups including clean sands, silt and silty sand, and residual soils. Based on test results, the small-strain shear modulus(G$_{max}$) and damping ratio(D$_{min}$) were determined and the effects of confinement on G$_{max}$ and D$_{max}$ were characterized. The empirical correlations predicting G$_{max}$ were suggested for 3 group soils. Nonlinear deformational characteristics of clean sands are significantly affected by confining pressure and the ranges and mean curves for G and D are suggested considering the range of confining Pressure. The silt and silty sand and residual soils were weakly affected by confining pressure, so the representative ranges and curves, independent of confining pressure, were proposed.d.posed.d.
An investigation into the modal interaction of an autoparameteric systemunder broad-band random excitation is made. The specific system examined is a spring-pendulum system with internal resonance, which is known to be a good model for a variety of engineering systems, including ship motions with nonlinear coupling between pitching and rolling motions. By means of the Gaussian closure method the dynamic moment equations explaining the random responses of the system are reduced to a system of autonomous ordinanary differential equations of the first and second moments. In view of equilibrium solutions of this system and their stability we examine the system responses. The stabilizing effect of system damping is also examined.
In this paper, a computer simulation method for dynamic analysis of the hydraulic engine mount system is proposed. The hydraulic engine mount system controls the damping characteristics using the viscosity of fluid flow The complex stiffness of the main rubber of the hydraulic engine mount system is computed by finite element analysis for the viscoelastic materials and hydro-static elements. A numerical analysis method is presented to solve nonlinear equations of the hydraulic engine mount system. which is composed of an engine mass, fluid in inertia track and a vertical inertia force of reciprocating mass in the engine. Also. dynamic properties of the hydraulic engine mount system are analyzed in the frequency domain. Effects of the hydraulic engine mount system running over the rough road are investigated using a vehicle dynamic model. These results are compared with those of the rubber mount system.
