Due to technological advancements, the data industry is growing, leading to a demand for data professionals in the market. Job seekers interested in data-related positions include not only those with relevant majors but also non-majors. Therefore, this study aims to identify effective educational methods for non-majors lacking data knowledge and skills to develop both data and business competencies. This research focuses on 28 trainees who participated in the "Data Youth Campus" program conducted by K-institution. The program spanned 10 weeks and was structured into three phases: fundamentals, practical training, and projects, systematically enhancing trainees' capabilities. The effectiveness of the curriculum and trainee management was verified by measuring and analyzing improvement of competencies and satisfaction with the program. This study offers valuable insights for the design and implementation of data education programs tailored to non-majors.
This study explored men's choice of fashion as a college major and, subsequently, a non-traditional career path. Such investigation is important to gain a better understanding of the motives and processes of selecting a non-traditional college major and subsequent career path. This research consulted several theoretical frameworks to guide the development of research questions and help interpret the findings of the study. Specifically, our study builds upon Holland's trait theory (1982), Gottfredson's (1981) circumscription theory, Farmer's (1985) model of career motivation, and Simpson's (2005) typology of men's non-traditional career entry. A qualitative method was used to explore men's experiences of selecting fashion as an academic major in college and deciding to pursue a career in the traditionally female-dominated field. Following the analysis of 22 individual interviews with male upperclassmen majoring in fashion, three topical areas emerged and we proposed a model of male students' path to a non-traditional college major. The model explains male students' dynamics of entering a non-traditional college major, the role of personal and social factors in the decision process as well as the role of future career orientation when choosing to study fashion as an academic major.
Today, computational thinking takes an important role in problem solving in software education. As a result, software education as liberal arts for non-CS major students is rapidly expanding. It is necessary to study the effects of computational thinking on software problem solving ability compared to traditional programming language education. In this paper, we propose an evaluation model for analyzing the effects of computational thinking on the overall software development process, and analyze how the problem solving process is different for learners who take computing thinking classes and programming language courses as liberal arts courses. As a result, students who learned computational thinking showed higher ability in problem analysis and design process.
The purpose of this study was to investigate dietary attitudes food behaviors and nutrition knowledge of food nutrition major and non-major female students. The subjects of this study consisted of 98 food and nutrition majors and 98 non-majors. Questionnaires were completed by them. Food and nutrition majors gave a serious consideration of taste and nutrition in selecting foods while non-majors considered taste food price amount of food and preparing time. Food and nutrition majors got higher scores in hig-her level of nutrition knowledge than non-majors and both got about the same scores in basic nutrition knowledge. The mean body weights of both were about the same and mean height of non-majors was hig-her than food and nutrition majors. Accrding to obesity index ideal body weight was more in food and nutrition ajors and underweight was more in non-majors. Dietary attitudes food behaviors and nu-trition knowledge of food and nutrition majors were better than those of non-majors. Therefore nutrition non-majors need nutrition education in order to improve their food behaviors and nutrition knowledge.
Computational Thinking is one of the biggest issues in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It is a core literacy required not only for SW major but also for all students including them. It is not a simple computer software education, but a coding education based on Computational Thinking, and it should be able to solve the problems in everyday life and to express the process and solutions. However, in the case of students who lack background knowledge on SW and programming languages for development, it is hard to know how to algorithmize problems and express them using computer devices. In this study, we proposed a education course model to improve the students' thinking skills and to express them effectively. In addition, we confirmed whether the non-major students who learned through this education course model can express various problems related to the major field by integrating them with computing accidents and improve the problem solving ability.
The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of satisfaction, and awareness, as well as evaluations of internship programs between major and non-major students in food and nutrition. The survey was conducted via questionnaire to 80 major and 113 non-major students in food and nutrition who had finished an internship. For the primary internship facilities, the proportions were 51.3% in foodservice for the major group and 57.4% in business & industry for the non-major group. For the internship period, the proportions were 71.2% for under 2 weeks in the major group, and 42.9% for $2{\sim}4$ weeks in the non-major group(p<0.001). The proportions of students who were provided orientation from a professor(p<0.001), and visiting guidance by a professor(p<0.001), were 40.5% and 35.4%, respectively, in the major group and 73.4% and 82.1 %, respectively, in the non-major group. The proportions answering that the internship was a necessity were 95.0% in the major group and 75.2% in the non-major group(p<0.001). The major group had significantly higher satisfaction scores for location of the internship facility, internship period, and connection between education and practice as compared to the non-major group. However, the satisfaction score for professor's guidance during the internship was significantly lower in the major group than the other group. The evaluation score for 'I did my best when doing my work' was significantly higher in the major group than the non-major group. The major group had significantly higher awareness scores for the internship's degree of assistance in improving skills, making use of knowledge, and adapting to the field, as compared to non-major group. In conclusion, students majoring in food and nutrition faithfully participated in their internship programs, with higher degrees of satisfaction and awareness, and higher evaluations. However, more effective internship program with intensified and developed guidance by professor are needed.
The architectural engineering is regarded as the non-IT related field. But as growing the domain of IT industry, the students who major in the architectural engineering have to keep the programming ability to deal with the architectural engineering problems. In this paper, It will be discussed the development of the application program for architectural engineering problems by using the programming skill, and how can it enhance the non-IT related field's students to solve the problems.
