We grew multi-stacked InAs/$In_{0.1}Ga_{0.9}As$ DWELL (dot-in-a-well) structure by metal organic chemical vapor deposition and investigated optical properties by photoluminescence and I-V characteristics by dark current measurement. When stacking InAs quantum dots (QDs) with same growth parameter, the size and density of QDs were changed, resulting in the bimodal emission peak. By decreasing the flow rate of TMIn, we achieved the uniform multi-stacked QD structure which had the single emission peak and high PL intensity. As the growth temperature of n-type GaAs top contact layer (TCL) is above $600^{\circ}C$, the PL intensity severely decreased and dark current level increased. At bias of 0.5 V, the activation energy for temperature dependence of dark current decreased from 106 meV to 48 meV with increasing the growth temperature of n-type GaAs TCL from 580 to $650^{\circ}C$. This suggest that the thermal escape of bounded electrons and non-radiative transition become dominant due to the thermal inter-diffusion at the interface between InAs QDs and $In_{0.1}Ga_{0.9}As$ well layer.

This study introduces the characteristics of current-voltage (I-V) and impedance variance for $ZnO-Zn_2BiVO_6-Co_3O_4$ (ZZCo), which is sintered at $900^{\circ}C$, according to temperature changes. ZZCo varistor demonstrates dramatic improvement of non-linear coefficient, ${\alpha}=66$, with lower leakage current and higher insulating resistivity than those of ZZ ($ZnO-Zn_2BiVO_6$) from the aspect of I-V curves. While both systems are thermally stable up to $125^{\circ}C$, ZZCo represents a higher grain boundary activation energy with 1.05 eV and 0.94 eV of J-E-T and from IS & MS, respectively, than that of ZZ with 0.73 eV and 0.82 eV of J-E-T and from IS & MS, respectively, in the region above $180^{\circ}C$. It could be attributed to the formation of $V^*_o$(0.41~0.47 eV) as dominant defect in two systems, as well as the defect-induced capacitance increase from 781 pF to 1 nF in accordance with increasing temperature. On the other hand, both the grain boundary capacitances of ZZ and ZZCo are shown to decrease to 357 pF and 349 pF, respectively, while the resistances systems decreased exponentially, in accordance with increasing temperature. So, this paper suggests that the application of newly formed liquid phases as sintering additives in both $Zn_2BiVO_6$ and the ZZCo-based varistors would be helpful in developing commercialized devices such as chips, disk-type ZnO varistors in the future.
Fish assemblages play an integral role in stream ecosystem and are influenced by stream environmental conditions and habitat disturbances. Fish community structures and habitat parameters of U.S. EPA rapid bio-assessment protocol were surveyed to investigate the effect of stream environment and habitat disturbance on fish communities at 13 study sites in the Gapyeong Stream, a typical gravel-bed stream. Principal component analysis (PCA) based on data from habitat assessment at each study site indicated that the study sites were differentiated by habitat parameters such as embeddedness, velocity/depth regime and sediment deposition, which were related with bed slope. A total of 46 species belonging to 12 families were collected in the Gapyeong Stream. A dominant species was Zacco koreanus, subdominant species was Z. platypus. Hierarchical cluster analysis based on species abundance classified fish communities into the three main groups along the stream longitudinal change. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) portrayed that fish community structures were related to major habitat parameters, i.e., epifaunal substrate/available cover, embeddedness, velocity/depth regime, sediment deposition, channel alternation and frequency of riffles. These results suggested that fish community structures were primary affected by the longitudinal environmental changes, and those were modified by habitat disturbance in the Gapyeong Stream, a gravel-bed stream.

In this study we aims to examine the co-doping effects of 1/3 mol% $Mn_3O_4+Co_3O_4$ (1:1) on the reaction, microstructure, and electrical properties such as the bulk defects and grain boundary properties of $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Sb_2O_3$ (ZBS; Sb/Bi=0.5, 1.0, and 2.0) varistors. The sintering and electrical properties of Mn,Co-doped ZBS, ZBS(MCo) varistors were controlled by Sb/Bi ratio. Pyrochlore ($Zn_2Bi_3Sb_3O_{14}$) was decomposed and promoted densification at lower temperature on heating in Sb/Bi=1.0 by Mn rather than Co. Pyrochlore on cooling was reproduced in all systems however, spinel (${\alpha}$- or ${\beta}$-polymorph) did not formed in Sb/Bi=0.5. More homogeneous microstructure was obtained in $Sb/Bi{\geq}1.0$ In ZBS(MCo), the varistor characteristics were improved drastically (non-linear coefficient, ${\alpha}$=30~49), and seemed to form $Zn_i^{..}$(0.17 eV) and $V_o^{\bullet}$(0.33 eV) as dominant defects. From impedance and modulus spectroscopy (IS & MS), the grain boundaries have divided into two types, i.e. the one is tentatively assign to $ZnO/Bi_2O_3(Mn,Co)/ZnO$ (0.47 eV) and the other ZnO/ZnO (0.80~0.89 eV) homojunctions.

Natural attenuation of petroleum hydrocarbon was investigated at an industrial complex about 45 Km away from Seoul. The three-years monitoring results indicated that the concentrations of DO, nitrate, and sulfate in the contaminated area were significantly lower than the background monitoring groundwater under the non-contaminated area. The results also showed a higher ferrous iron concentration, a lower redox potential, and a higher (neutral) pH in the contaminated groundwater, suggesting that biodegradation of TEX(Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene) is the major on-going process in the contaminated area. Groundwater in the contaminated area is anaerobic, and sulfate reduction is the dominant terminal electron accepting process in the area. The total attenuation rate was about 0.0017∼0.0224day$^{-1}$ and the estimated first-order degradation rate constant(λ) was 0.0008∼0.0106day$^{-1}$ . However, the reduction of TEX concentration in the groundwater was resulted from not only biodegradation but also dilution and reaeration through recharge of uncotaminated surface and groundwater. The natural attenuation was, therefore, found to be an effective, on-going remedial process at the site.

Recently there has been growing interest in topological insulators or the quantum spin Hall (QSH) phase, which are insulating materials with bulk band gaps but have metallic edge states that are formed topologically and robust against any non-magnetic impurity [1]. In a three-dimensional material, the two-dimensional surface states correspond to the edge states (topological metal) and their intriguing nature in terms of electronic and spin structures have been experimentally observed in bulk Bi1-xSbx single crystals [2,3,4]. However, if we want to know the transport properties of these topological metals, high purity samples as well as very low temperature will be needed because of the contribution from bulk states or impurity effects. In a recent report, it was also shown that an intriguing coupling between the surface and bulk states will occur [5]. A simple solution to this bothersome problem is to prepare a topological metal on an ultrathin film, in which the surface-to-bulk ratio is drastically increased. Therefore in the present study, we have investigated if there is a method to make an ultrathin Bi1-xSbx film on a semiconductor substrate. From reflection high-energy electron diffraction observation, it was found that single crystal Bi1-xSbx films (0${\sim}30\;{\AA}A$ can be prepared on Si(111)-$7{\times}7$. The transport properties of such films were characterized by in situ monolithic micro four-point probes [6]. The temperature dependence of the resistivity for the x=0.1 samples was insulating when the film thickness was $240\;{\AA}A$. However, it became metallic as the thickness was reduced down to $30\;{\AA}A$, indicating surface-state dominant electrical conduction. Figure 1 shows the Fermi surface of $40\;{\AA}A$ thick Bi0.92Sb0.08 (a) and Bi0.84Sb0.16 (b) films mapped by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The basic features of the electronic structure of these surface states were shown to be the same as those found on bulk surfaces, meaning that topological metals can be prepared at the surface of an ultrathin film. The details will be given in the presentation.
An inductively coupled plasma assisted atomic layer deposition(ICP-ALD) system has been constructed for the deposition of ZnO thin films, and various experiments of ZnO thin films on p-type Si(100) substrates have been carried out to find the self-limiting reaction conditions for the ICP-ALD system under non-plasma circumstances. Diethyl zinc[$Zn(C_2H_5)_2$, DEZn] was used as the zinc precursor, $H_2O$ as the oxidant, and Ar as the carrier and purge gas. At the substrate temperature of $150^{\circ}C$, atomic layer deposition conditions based on self-limiting surface reaction were successfully obtained by series of experiments through the variation of exposure times for DEZn, $H_2O$, and Ar. ZnO deposition was repeated at different substrate temperatures of $90{\sim}210^{\circ}C$. As a result, the thermal process window(ALD window) for ZnO thin films was observed to be $110{\sim}190^{\circ}C$ and the average growth rate was measured to be constant of 0.29 nm/cycle. Properties of the film's microstructure and composition(Zn, O, etc.) were also studied. As the substrate temperature increases, the crystallinity was improved and ZnO(002) peak became dominant. The films deposited at all temperatures were high purity, and the films deposited at high temperatures had the composition ratio between Zn and O closer to one of a stable hexagonal wurtzite structure.
A simple monitoring method was designed to evaluate seed bank in a upper soil (0 to 30 cm depth), which was observed for the pattern of vertical distribution of weed in the soil under tillage or no-tillage condition. The field experiment was established at an organic corn field located in Hwacheon in Kangwon-do from 2010 to 2011. Undistributed linear soil samples were taken using non-destructive soil sampler from 0 to 30 cm depth at the tillage or no-tillage soils. Weed seed distribution in the linear soil samples was estimated by counting the number of weed germinated according to the soil depth. Under tillage condition, the weed seeds were more evenly distributed from 0 to 30 cm depth, with being 75% of weed seeds located in 0 to 15 cm depth compared to the no-tillage condition. Soil samples taken by no-tillage condition had 85% of weed seeds within 15 cm of soil depth, with being 93% of weed seeds from 0 to 20 cm depth. The number of weeds or the number of weed species were three times higher for tillage soil compared to no-tillage soil, and the major dominant weed species were observed for annual plants, such as Echinochloa crus-gall, Mollugo pentaphylla, and Digitaria ciliaris.
T-RFLP analysis and clone sequencing analysis based on bacterial 16S rDNA were conducted to assess bacterial community structure and diversity in Zoysia japonica soil treated with liquid fertilizer containing amino acids(LFcAA) after spray with herbicide. The results of T-RFLP (terminal restriction fragment length poly-morphism) analysis using restriction enzyme Hae III showed that the T-RFs of various size appeared evenly in the 32 clones of KD3 and 38 clones of KD4 respectively that had been treated with liquid fertilizer containing amino acid(LFcAA) compared to 23 clones of KD2 hat had not been treated with LFcAA. The microbial com- munity structure in KD2 appeared less diverse than those in KD3 and KD4. Analysis of partial sequences for 110 clones from KDI (control), KD2 (non-treated), KD3 (LFcAA 1X), KD4 (LFcAA 2X), respectively, revealed that most bacteria were related with uncultured bacteria in a 16S rDNA sequence similarity range of 91-99% through blast search. Otherwise, the other clones were members of proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Act-inobacteria, Sphingobacteria and Planctomyces groups. Especially in KD4, members of Alpha Proteobacteria, Rhizobiales, Sphigomonadales, Caulobacterales, Gamma Proteobacteria, the genus Pseudomonas, Betapro-teobacteria, Nitrosomonadales and genus Nitrosospira appeared to be dominant. In addition, Acidobacteria group, Actinobacteria group, Planctomycetacia and Sphingobacteria were also shown. The microbial com-munity structure in Z. japonica soil sprayed with herbicide was affected by LFcAA.
To study the optimum fermentation and aging conditions for preparation of Andong Sikhe which is consumed in the northern Kyungbuk province as a traditional beverage, Sikhe were fermented and aged at $12^{\circ}C$ for 48, 60 and 72hrs and fermented at 40, 50. and $60^{\circ}C$ for 2, 3, and 4hrs and then aged at $12^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs, Non-volatile organic acids and free sugars were analyzed by GC and HPLC, respectively, and sensory test was performed. Sikhe fermented at $40^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs and aged at $12^{\circ}C$ for 20hrs was evaluated the most favorable one by sensory test. This Sikhe had the lowest pH 4.6~4.7 among sample and 14.6% of sugar. The sugar content was lower than those of Sikhe Fermented at $50^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. In organic acid analysis, the concentration of malate 67.53%/mg in this Sikhe was the highest. Lactate, succinate and maleate were produced more in this Sikhe than in any other ones. Oxalate which was existed before fermentation was not found in the Sikhe, and a small amounts of citrate and fumarate were produced. In sugar analysis, maltose was dominant 11.56%, glucose 1.25% and fructose 0.45%.
