Existing data structures for non-manifold solid modelers use basic dat entities, such as vertex, edge, loop, face, shell, and region to find adjacency relationships. But, no one clearly identified what additional types of data entitles are necessary to represent incidence relationships. In this paper, we classified the boundary information of vertex, edge, face , and region from the 3-D space view. As the results we can clearly define the boundary information required for adjacency relationships. The existing B-rep data structures for solid modeler are compared whether they have the required boundary information.
In English, whether or not wh-movement creates weak crossover effects depends upon the type of wh-phrases that cross over. A bare interrogative like who shows a typical weak crossover effect whereas which N type (e.g. which girl) and partitive type (e.g. which of these girls) wh-phrases would show mere weaker and weakest crossover effects, respectively. Previous approaches to English crossover phenomena that resort to a binary notion of specificity or D-linking cannot account for the three-way contrast the three different types of wh-phrases show. To overcome this problem, I argue in this paper that specificity should be a non-binary set-theoretic notion and propose the following subset principle and optimal binding relation: Between two lexical nominal expressions A and B, A is regarded as more specific than B iff the denotation of A comes from a more narrowly defined non-singleton set than B. Between two lexical nominal expressions A and B, if A locally binds B, then the non-singleton set from which the denotation of A comes should be a subset of the set from which the denotation of B comes (i.e. B cannot be more specific than A). The smaller the subset (i.e. the wider the specificity gap between binder and binder), the more optimal the local binding relation is. A locally binds B iff A is coindexed with B, and A c-commands B, and there is no such C that does not bind A but binds B. Finally, I show that partitivity functions to carve out a smaller subset and thus make partitive wh-phrases more specific than simple which N type wh-phrases.
We make use of cubic B-spline interpolation function in two cases: heat conduction and fluid flow problems. Cubic B-spline test function is employed because it is superior to approximation of linear and non-linear problems. We investigated the accuracy of the numerical formulation and focused on the position of the breakpoints within the computational domain. When the domain is divided by partitions of equal space, the results show poor accuracy. For the case of a heat conduction problem this partition can not reflect the temperature gradient which is rapidly changed near the wall. To correct the problem, we have more grid points near the wall or the region which has a rapid change of variables. When we applied the unequally spaced breakpoints, the results show high accuracy. Based on the comparison of the linear problem, we extended to the highly non-linear fluid flow problems.
Linear and non-linear regressions were used to derive the calibration function for the measurement of roxithromycin plasma concentration. Their results were compared with weighted least squares regression by usual weight factors. In this paper the performance of a non-linear calibration equation with the capacity to account empirically for the curvature, y = ax$^{b}$ + c (b $\neq$ 1) is compared with the commonly used linear equation, y = ax + b, as well as the quadratic equation, y = ax$^{2}$+ bx + c. In the calibration curve (range of 0.01 to 10 ${\mu}g/mL$) of roxithromycin, both heteroscedasticity and nonlinearity were present therefore linear least squares regression methods could result in large errors in the determination of roxithromycin concentration. By the non-linear and weighted least squares regression, the accuracy of the analytical method was improved at the lower end of the calibration curve. This study suggests that the non-linear calibration equation should be considered when a curve is required to be fitted to low dose calibration data which exhibit slight curvature.
The genomic and subgenomic RNAs of fish nodavirus encode the four proteins, protein A, capsid protein, non-structural protein B1 and B2. In this study, we describe the immune response of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus immunized with live fish nodavirus or recombinant capsid protein, non-structural protein B1 and B2 expressed in E. coli. Nodavirus-infected flounder produced antibodies to capsid protein, B1 and B2 and nodavirus-neutralizing activities were detected in the serum of the nodavirus-infected flounder. The flounder were immunized against the three recombinant proteins of fish nodavirus and the sera from these immunized fishes were assayed for nodavirus-specific antibody by ELISA and a neutralization test. In the immunized flounder, all three recombinant proteins induced the production of similar levels of antibody, but only the antibody to capsid protein significantly neutralized nodavirus. These results indicate that all three nodaviral proteins are immunogenic in flounder, but only the capsid protein can induce neutralizing antibody against nodavirus.
Currently, there is no technical standard and regulation for seismic analysis of non-nuclear safety piping. Accordingly, ASME Sec.III ND, a standards applied to safety class 3 piping, is applied. However, the technical standard applied for other than seismic analysis is ASME B31, which leads to controversy. In this study, the feasibility of applying ASME B31E was confirmed by reviewing rulescomparing technical standards, and evaluating piping allowable stress margins. The evaluation revealed that applying ASME B31.1 as a technical standard is too conservative compared to ASME Sec.III ND. On the other hand, ASME B31E (issued at the request of the industry) clearly presents the technical standards for seismic analysis of ASME B31 piping, and shows a similar level of conservatism compared to ASME Sec.III ND. It is expected to reduce the controversy over technical standards for seismic analysis of non-nuclear safety piping by applying ASME B31E.
The purpose of this study was to assess vitamin $B_6$ intake and status in Korean patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Sixty-four patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes and 8-11% glycated hemoglobin (A1C), along with 28 age-matched non-diabetic subjects, participated. Dietary vitamin $B_6$ intake was estimated by the 24 hour recall method and plasma pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) was measured. There was a significant difference in daily total calorie intake between the diabetic and non-diabetic groups ($1,917{\pm}376$ vs $2,093{\pm}311\;kcal$). There were no differences in intake of total vitamin $B_6$ ($2.51{\pm}0.91$ vs $2.53{\pm}0.81\;mg/d$) or vitamin $B_6$/1,000 kcal ($1.31{\pm}0.42$ vs $1.20{\pm}0.32\;mg$) between the diabetic and non-diabetic groups, and I intakes of total vitamin $B_6$ were above the Korean RDA in both groups ($180.0{\pm}57.9$ vs $179.0{\pm}65.4$). There was a higher percentage of diabetic subjects whose plasma PLP concentration was < 30 nmol/L compared to non-diabetic group. Plasma PLP levels tended to be lower in the diabetic subjects than in the non-diabetic subjects, although the difference was not statistically significant due to a large standard deviation ($80.0{\pm}61.2\;nmol/L$ vs $68.2{\pm}38.5\;nmol/L$). Nevertheless, plasma PLP levels should be monitored in pre-diabetic patients with diabetic risk factors as well as in newly diagnosed diabetic patients for long-term management of diabetes, even though this factor is not a major risk factor that contributes to the development of degenerative complications in certain patients.
Purpose: This study was conducted to describe the knowledge and attitudes of nursing and non-nursing college students toward HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B. Methods: A descriptive design was used for this study. The subjects were 123 nursing college students and 128 non-nursing college students. Self-administered questionnaires were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis. Results: Nursing students showed a greater understanding and more favorable attitudes towards HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B than non-nursing college students. Most non-nursing college students learned about HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B from Mass Media. In contrast, many nursing college students learned about HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B from technical books and lecture. Students who learned from technical books and lecture showed a higher score for knowledge and more favorable attitudes regarding HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B. Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrated that educational opportunities in school are crucial to enhancing knowledge and attitudes toward HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B. A structured education program using strategies to improve attitudes is necessary for college students.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bio-durability and bone regeneration capacity of the non-cross-linked collagen membrane in rabbit calvarial defect models. Materials and Methods: Four circular defects with 8 mm diameter were made in each of calvarium of 10 male rabbits. The following groups was randomly assigned to each defect - 1) Control, 2) membrane group containing non-cross-linked collagen membrane only (M), 3) bone graft group (B), 4) bone graft with membrane group (B+M). Animals were sacrificed and samples were harvested at 2 weeks (n=5) and 8 weeks (n=5). Histologic sections were prepared and histomorphometric analysis was performed. Result: Histologic results showed well adaptation of the non-cross-linked membrane on each defect and normal healing response at 2 weeks. At 8 weeks, the membranes were partially biodegraded. Histomorphometrically, B and B+M group showed the significantly greater total augmented area (B+M group, 10.44±1.49, P=0.016; B group, 9.13±0.53, P=0.032) and new bone formation (B+M group, 2.89±0.93, P=0.008; B group, 2.85±1.15, P=0.008) compared to control group. Collapsing of the central portion of the membrane, membrane group showed greater value in new bone formation at 8 weeks (1.78±0.68, P=0.032). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the non-cross-linked collagen membrane fabricated using the improved decellularized method was shown to be effective for the regeneration of calvarial bone defects. In addition, prolonged barrier function might be provided using this collagen membrane.
