  • Active vibration control algorithms for the compensator and proto-type testing system have been developed for the suppression of vibrations from the reciprocating engines. At first, the developed algorithm determines optimal control vibration phases by detecting vibration responses of the engine without and with compensator, and then performs the continuous optimal control functions by tracking the change of the vibration frequency and phase. This algorithm is comparatively simple. robust for the external excitations and needless of supplementary operation since the control process is serially carried out. To validate the performance of compensator and algorithm, testing system including excitation device are constructed and tested, and the reductions of vibration levels are observed over than 80 % of the uncontrolled levels at various frequency ranges.

  • This paper proposes a systematic design methodology for high-speed/high-precision servomechanisms by using a disturbance observer. A multiplicative uncertainty model and a two degree-of-freedom controller composed of a disturbance observer (DOB) and a PD controller are considered as subsystems. Analysis of the system performance, such as internal stability and bandwidth of a servomechanism according to subsystem parameters is conducted for better understanding of the dynamic behavior and interactions among the subsystem parameters. Then, an integrated design methodology, where the interactions are considered simultaneously, is applied to design processes of the servomechanism. The tradeoff relationship between disturbance suppression and measurement noise rejection of the DOB is considered through the design process. Numerical case studies show the improved possibility to evaluate and optimize the dynamic motion performance of the servomechanism. Moreover, the disturbance observer designed based on the proposed design methodology yields excellent disturbance suppression performance.

  • DFT-spread OFDM(Discrete Fourier Transform-Spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is very effective for solving the PAPR(Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) problem. Therefore, the SC-FDMA(Single Carrier-Frequency Division Multiple Access) which is basically same to the DFT spread OFDM was adopted as the uplink standard of the 3GPP LTE ($3^{rd}$ Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution). Unlike the ordinary OFDM system, the SC-FDMA using DFT spreading method is vulnerable to the ICI(Inter-Carrier Interference) problem caused by the phase noise and IQ(In-phase/Quadrature) imbalance and effected FDE(Frequency Domain Equalizer). In this paper, the ICI effects from the phase noise and IQ imbalance which can be problems in uplink transmission are analyzed according the back-off level of HPA. Next, we propose the equalizer algorithm to remove the ICI effects. This proposed equalizer based on the FDE can be considered as up-graded and improved version of PNS(Phase Noise Suppression) algorithm. This proposed equalizer effectively compensates the ICI resulting from the phase noise and IQ imbalance. Finally, through the computer simulation, it can be shown that about SNR=14 dB is required for the $BER=10^{-4}$ after ICI compensation when the back-off is 4.5 dB, $\varepsilon=0.005$, $\phi=5^{\circ}$, and $pn=0.06\;rad^2$.

  • An advanced receiver which can manage inter-cell interference is required to cope with the explosively increasing mobile data traffic. 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has discussed network assisted interference cancellation and suppression (NAICS) to improve signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio (SINR) and receiver performance by suppression or cancellation of interference signal from inter-cells. In this paper, we propose the advanced receiver based on soft decision to reduce the interference from neighbor cell in LTE-Advanced downlink system. The proposed receiver can suppress and cancel the interference by calculating the unbiased estimation value of interference signal using minimum mean square error (MMSE) or interference rejection combing (IRC) receiver. The interference signal is updated using soft information expressed by log-likelihood ratio (LLR). We perform the system level simulation based on 20MHz bandwidth of 3GPP LTE-Advanced downlink system. Simulation results show that the proposed receiver can improve SINR, throughput, and spectral efficiency of conventional system.

  • The MMIC cascode VCO is designed, fabricated, and measured for Ku-band Low Noise Blcok(LNB) system using InGaP/GaAs HBT technology. The phase noise of -116.4 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset with output power of 1.3 dBm is obtained at 11.526 GHz by applying 3 V and 11 mA, which is comparatively better characteristics than compared with the different configuration VCOs fabricated with other technologies. The simulated results of oscillation frequency and second harmonic suppression agree with the measured results. The phase noise is improved due to the use of the smallest value of inductor in frequency determining network and the InGaP ledge function of the technology. The chip size of $830\time781\;{\mu}m^2$ is also achieved.

  • In the OFDM system, IQ imbalance problem happens at the RF front-end of transceiver, which degrades the BER(bit error rate) performance because it affects the constellation in the received signal. Also, phase noise is generated in the local oscillator of transceivers and it destroys the orthogonality between the subcarriers. Conventional PNS algorithm is effective for phase noise suppression, but it is not useful anymore when there are jointly IQ(In-phase and Quadrature) imbalance and phase noise. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the effect of IQ imbalance and phase noise generated in the down-conversion of the receiver. Then, we estimate and compensate the IQ imbalance and phase noise at the same time. Compared with the conventional method that IQ imbalance after IFFT is estimated and compensated in front of FFT via the feedback, this proposed method extracts and compensates effect of IQ imbalance after FFT stage. In case IQ imbalance and phase noise exist at the same time, we can decrease complexity because it is needless to use elimination of IQ imbalance in time domain and training sequences and preambles. Also, this method shows that it reduces the ICI and CPE component using adaptive forgetting factor of MMSE after FFT.

  • This paper presents a preprocessing method to modify the input audio signals of a speech coder to obtain the finally enhanced signals at the decoder. For the purpose, we introduce the noise suppression (NS) scheme and the adaptive gain control (AGC) where an audio input and its coding error are considered as a noisy signal and a noise, respectively. The coding error is suppressed from the input and then the suppressed input is level aligned to the original input by the following AGC operation. Consequently, this preprocessing method makes the spectral energy of the music input redistributed all over the spectral domain so that the preprocessed music can be coded more effectively by the following coder. As an artifact, this procedure needs an additional encoding pass to calculate the coding error. However, it provides a generalized formulation applicable to a lot of existing speech coders. By preference listening tests, it was indicated that the proposed approach produces significant enhancements in the perceived music qualities.

  • The goal of image restoration is to remove the degradations in a way that the resrored image will best approximate the original image. This can be done by the iterative regularized image restoration method. In any iterative image restoration algorithm, using a "better" termination rule results in both "better" quality of ther restored image and "less" computation, and hence, "faster" and "simp;er" practical system. Therefore, finding a better termmination rule for an iterative image restoration algorithm has been an interesting and improtant question for many researchers in the iterative image restoration. In these reasons, the new termination rule using the estimated distance between the original image and the restored image is proposed inthis paper. Noise suppression parameter(NSP) and the rule for estimating NSP with the noise variance are also proposed. The experimental results shows that the proposed termination rule is superior to the conventional methods.

  • Generally, speed control for Induction motor widely used in industrial field is accomplished by commercial inverter. Induction motor driven by commercial inverter causes the micro surge voltage because of high speed switching of inverter. Micro surge brings about not only the breakdown of motor but also noise in PLC control system. And they court the enormous interference in activity for production. In this paper, we suggest the suppressible countermeasure for the breakdown of motor after the consideration of productive mechanism about micro surge. Experiment is performed by inverter with LCR filler in its output terminal. As a result, we confirmed that micro surge voltage is reduced. And the suppressible countermeasure for the noise of PLC control system is suggested by theoretical consideration.
