Objectives The purpose of this study was to report a case of nodules on lower extremities with pain which was treated by herbal medicine treatment and acupuncture. Methods One male patient who had nodules on lower extremities with pain was treated by Yangdokbaekho-tang and Hyungbangsabak-san, and acupuncture according to the result of Sasang constitutional diagnosis. Results and Conclusions The patient's pain and accompanied symptoms were improved after using Yangdokbaekho-tang and Hyungbangsabak-san. The Numeric Rating Scale(NRS) which was used to evaluate pain intensity was decreased from 9 to 2 without using Western medications.
A seven-year-old male poodle was presented with multiple non-pruritic draining skin lesions. On physical examination the dog was depressed and had three draining nodules 3.0 to 4.0 cm in diameter on the neck, flank and back. The multifocal sparing of fat lobules, macrophages, and numerous neutrophils were observed in aspiration cytologic examination of nodule. Haematological examination demonstrated a moderate leukocytosis and neutrophilia. An aerobic bacterial culture was undertaken from draining lesions on the flank. But there was no bacterial growth in aerobic culture. Therapy was initiated with oral cephalexin at a dose of 20 mg/kg, body weight three times daily and prednisolone at 1.0 mg/kg twice daily. The (lug returned to normal within 24 hours of treatment and its general attitute and appetite were improved. However, within 1 month new nodules had appeared on the dorsum over the rump, coalescing into a mass of draining nodules and tracts.
An automatic lung nodule detection algorithm was applied for digital radiographic images using Bit Slice Processor. In this algorithm, signal enhancing filtering and signal suppressing filtering were performed on the given digital chest image, respectively. Then we grit the dirt- frrence image from these filtered images, and hi-level island images were obtained by applying various threshold values. From the island images, we decided the suspicious nodules using size and circularity test, and marked them to alert radiologists. The performance of the atgorithm was analyzed with respect to the size, contrast and position of digitally synthesized nodules. This method presented 45.8% of true positive ratio for the nodules of lOw in diameter with 12-16 pixel value differnces.
The root nodule of Canavalia lineta was classified as a determinate nodule and the symbiont as a Rhizobium-bacteriod based on their morphological characteristics. Isolated encosymbiont was similar both to R. leguminosarum and R. meliloti in its peritrichous arrangement of flagella and some of the physiological characteristics. Compared to control plants, Canavalia seedlings inoculated with the isolate grew normally due to induced root nodules, confirming isolate's infectivity and effectivity. Characteristics of the reisolated endosymbiont from induced root nodule were identical to those of the first isolate, indicating the nodules were induced by the first isolate. From these results, it was confirmed that Rhizobium strain isolated from the root nodules of Canavalia lineata was a real symbiont, and was named Rhizobium sp. SNU003.

Incidental thyroid nodules are commonly detected on ultrasonography (US). This has contributed to the rapidly rising incidence of low-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma over the last 20 years. The appropriate diagnosis and management of these patients is based on the risk factors related to the patients as well as the thyroid nodules. The Korean Society of Thyroid Radiology (KSThR) published consensus recommendations for US-based management of thyroid nodules in 2011 and revised them in 2016. These guidelines have been used as the standard guidelines in Korea. However, recent advances in the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules have necessitated the revision of the original recommendations. The task force of the KSThR has revised the Korean Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System and recommendations for US lexicon, biopsy criteria, US criteria of extrathyroidal extension, optimal thyroid computed tomography protocol, and US follow-up of thyroid nodules before and after biopsy. The biopsy criteria were revised to reduce unnecessary biopsies for benign nodules while maintaining an appropriate sensitivity for the detection of malignant tumors in small (1-2 cm) thyroid nodules. The goal of these recommendations is to provide the optimal scientific evidence and expert opinion consensus regarding US-based diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules.
This experiment was carried out to define the affinity of alfalfa varieties to nodule bacteria and the effects of nodule bacteria on the growth of alfalfa varieties. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. The ability of nodule formation on the roots of alfalfa was significantly different among the strains of nodule bacteria, Rhizobium meliloti SU 47 formed nodules on the roots of two alfalfa varieties, Luna and Von arnims altd bost. Nodules were not formed at the roots of all varieties by inoculation of Rhizobium meliloti M1 but a lot of nodules were formed at the roots of all varieties by inoculation of Rhizobium meliloti M14. 2. When the Rhizobium meliloti M14 was inoculated in the media, the largest numbers of nodules were formed on the roots of alfalfa cultivar Franks hangmeiler and the least numbers of nodules were formed on the roots of cultivar Elga. 3. The plant height and the dry matter weight of all alfalfa cultivars were significantly increased by inoculation of Rhizobium meliloti M14, and also those were increased by applying nitrogen, but when the alfalfa cultivars were grown on the media inoculated Rhizobium M1, the plant height and the dry matter weight of alfalfas were not increased and they were same as those grown on check media. 4. The significant correlation were not detected between the number of nodules formed on the, roots of alfalfa cultivars and the plant height or the dry matter weight of alfalfa cultivars.

Purpose To evaluate and compare the diagnostic outcomes of ultrasonography (US)-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) and core needle biopsy (CNB) performed on the same thyroid nodule using a surgical specimen for direct comparison. Materials and Methods We included 89 thyroid nodules from 88 patients from February 2015 to January 2016. The inclusion criterion was thyroid nodules measuring ≥ 20 mm (mean size: 40.0 ± 15.3 mm). Immediately after surgical resection, FNA and subsequent CNB were performed on the surgical specimen under US guidance. FNA and CNB cytopathologic results on the specimen were compared with the surgical diagnosis. Results Among the 89 nodules, 30 were malignant and 59 were benign. Significantly higher inconclusive rates were seen in FNA for malignant than benign nodules (80.0% vs. 39.0%, p < 0.001). For CNB, conclusive and inconclusive rates did not differ between benign and malignant nodules (p = 0.796). Higher inconclusive rates were seen for FNA among cancers regardless of US features, and in the subgroup of size ≥ 40 mm (62.5% vs. 22.9%, p = 0.028). Eleven cancers were diagnosed with CNB (36.7%, 11/30), while none was diagnosed using FNA. Conclusion In this experimental study using surgical specimens, CNB showed a potential to provide improved diagnostic sensitivity for thyroid cancer, especially when a conclusive diagnosis is limited with FNA.

A benign pulmonary metastasizing leiomyoma is a recognized clinical entity that has been infrequently reported in the medical literature. We report two cases of a benign pulmonary metastasizing leiomyoma. A 35-year-old woman who underwent myomectomy and a cesarean section approximately 6 years earlier visited our hospital for further evaluation of incidentally revealed multiple lung nodules. A diagnostic percutaneuous biopsy was performed. Finally she was diagnosed with a benign metastasizing leiomyoma. The patient then received LH-RH and has been followed up since. The other 44-year-old woman presented after an initial radiology evaluation revealed the presence of multiple, small-sized lung nodules. She underwent a right middle lung wedge resection to confirm the diagnosis. Finally she diagnosed with a benign metastasizing leiomyoma. The multiple lung nodules have been followed up closely.
