In this paper, the transient thermal and residual stress analysis of the welding of 9% Ni steel plates using the FEA software ABAQUS are presented. The 9% Ni steel plates are welded manually with welding consumables of 70% Ni based Inconel type super-alloys (YAWATA WELD B (M)), producing a multi-pass/multi-layer butt weld. For these materials, temperature dependant mechanical and thermal material properties are used in the analysis. The back gouging is considered in welding process simulation. The FE thermal results are validated by comparing the real fusion profile and heat affected zone (HAZ). In addition, the continuous indentation test was conducted to measure the strength of base metal, HAZ and weld metal.

The effects of pulse current parameters on the composition and the microstructure of Pd-Ni alloy electrodeposits were studied. The cathode current efficiency of p.c. electrolysis conditions decreased with increasing both mean and peak current density and was lower than those under D.C. electrolysis condition. Palladium content of Pd-Ni alloy increased with increasing both peak current density and on-time, while it decreased with increasing mean current density and duty cycle. The preferred orientation of Pd-Ni alloys changed with increasing mean current density in the sequence of (111)+(110).(100) or (110)longrightarrow(111)longrightarrow(100) or random distribution of crystal structure. The surface morphology of Pd-Ni alloy changed mainly according to the mean current density and was related to the preferred orientation.
Low-carbon steels and a stainless steel were oxidized isothermally and cyclically between $1050^{\circ}C$ and $1200^{\circ}C$ for up to 100 min in air to find the effect of alloying elements of Si, Mn, Ni, and Cr on their oxidation. The most active alloying element of Si was scattered inside the oxide scale, at the scale-alloy interface and as internal oxide precipitates beneath the oxide scale. Manganese, which could not effectively improve the oxidation resistance, was rather uniformly distributed in the oxide scale. Nickel and chromium tended to present at the lower part of the oxide scale. Excessively thick porous scales formed on the low-carbon steels, whereas thin but non-adherent scales containing $Cr_2O_3$ formed on the stainless steel.
In the past, Alloy 600 nickel-based alloys have been widely used in steam generators. However, most of them have been replaced by thermally treated alloy 690 tubes in recent years because mill annealed alloy 600 materials are known to be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking. Unlike this general perception, some steam generators using mill annealed alloy 600 tubes show excellent performance even though they are designed, manufactured, and operated in the same way. Therefore, various analyses were carried out to determine causes for the degradation of steam generators. Based on the general stress corrosion cracking mechanism, tube material susceptibility, residual stress, and sludge deposits of steam generators were compared to identify factors affecting stress corrosion cracking. It was found that mill annealed alloy 600 steam generator tubes showed higher resistance to stress corrosion cracking when the amount of sludge deposits on tube surface was smaller and residual stress generated during the fabrication was lower.
Nanocrystalline (NC) Ni electrodeposits (EDs) with a mean grain size of $34{\pm}12nm$ has been investigated, from room temperature to $800^{\circ}C$ under a purge gas of argon, by both non-isothermal and isothermal differential scanning calorimetry measurements, in combination with characterization of temperature-dependent microstructural evolution. A significant exothermic peak resulting from superimposition of recrystallization and surface oxidation occurs between 340 and $745^{\circ}C$ at a heating rate of $10^{\circ}C/min$ for the NC Ni EDs. The temperatures for recrystallization and oxidation increase with increasing the heating rate. In addition, recrystallization leads to a profound brittle-ductile transition of the Ni EDs in a narrow range around the peak temperature for the recrystallization.
Extensive investigations on cast to cast variations observed in steels have underlined the role of thermocapillary or surface tension driven fluid flow in welding operations. The behavior of weld pool under the electric arc is however affected by possible arc modifications linked to microchemistry variations in materials & this limits to some extent the real contribution from surface tension effects. Thus, electron beam welding with high vacuum was used to investigate thermo-capillary effects on thin austenitic stainless steels & nickel based alloys. The weld pool was monitored by video observations to estimate the importance of fluid flow during the melting & solidification phase. The results underline the importance of fluid flow on [mal solidification.

Purpose: Many metal ions released from dental casting alloys have been reported to influence the intraoral symptoms of oral lichen planus (OLP) and burning mouth syndrome (BMS). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between salivary metal ion levels and the prosthetic duration as well as to evaluate the time-dependent morbid effects of metal ions in OLP and BMS patients. Methods: Three study groups consist of the following subjects respectively: 17 OLP patients, 12 BMS patients, and 12 patients without oral symptoms. The salivary concentrations of 13 metal ions (copper, cobalt, zinc, chromium, nickel, aluminum, silver, iron, titanium [Ti], platinum, tin, palladium, and gold) were measured by Laser Ablation Microprobe Inductively coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry. Results: The Ti ions had statistically significant differences among the groups with a prosthetic duration of less than 5 years. There were no significant differences between all ion levels among the groups wearing dental cast alloys for over 5 years. In the BMS group, the level of Ti ions in patients with prosthetic restorations less than 5 years old were significantly high (p<0.05). Conclusions: In the BMS group, 3-60 months during which salivary Ti levels were higher were matched with the duration of burning symptoms ($15.6{\pm}17.1months$). Furthermore, Ti ions were statistically high in the oral cavity of BMS patients fitted with dental casting alloys for 5 years. These results suggest that Ti ions released from dental implants and oral prostheses could attribute to burning sensation of BMS.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tensile strength of solder joint between gold alloy and nickel-chromium alloy. The specimens were made with type III gold alloys and Ni-Cr-Be alloy and Degular Lot 2 solder. Eighteen paired specimens were made, and subdivided into three groups. Group I specimens were gold alloy-gold alloy combination, Group II specimens were gold alloy-Ni-Cr alloy combination, Group III specimens were Ni-Cr alloy-Ni-Cr alloy combination. Solder block were made with solder investment(Degussa A,G, Germany) and stored in room temperature for 24 hours. To reduce the formation of metallic oxide and increase wetting properties, flux was used before preheating and soldering procedure. The specimens were preheated at $650^{\circ}C$ and flux were applied again and gas-oxygen torch was used to solder the specimen. All soldered specimens were subjected to a tensile force in the Instron universal testing machine : the crosshead speed was 1 mm/mim. Tensile strength values of three soldered joint groups were 1. Gold alloy-Gold alloy solder joint : $$48.8kg/mm^2$$ 2. Gold alloy-Ni-Cr alloy solder joint : $$30.9kg/mm^2$$ 3. Ni-Cr alloy-Ni-Cr alloy solder joint : $$31.8kg/mm^2$$ The microscopic examination of fracture site showed cohesive and combination fracture modes in gold alloy specimens, but showed all adhesive fracture modes in Ni-Cr alloy containing specimens.

Recently, thin film capacitors used for vehicle inverters are small size, high capacitance, fast response, and large capacitance. But its applications were made up of liquid as electrolyte, so its capacitors are limited to low operating temperature range and the polarity. This research proposes using Ni-P alloys by electroless plating as the electrode instead of liquid electrode. Our substrate has a high aspect ratio and complicated shape because of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO). We used AAO because film thickness and effective surface area are depended on for high capacitance. As the metal electrode instead of electrolyte is injected into AAO, the film capacitor has advantages high voltage, wide operating temperature, and excellent frequency property. However, thin film capacitor made by electroless-plated Ni on AAO for full-filling into etched tunnel was limited from optimizing the deposition process so as to prevent open-through pore structures at the electroless plating owing to complicated morphological structure. In this paper, the electroless plating parameters are controlled by temperature in electroless Ni plating for reducing reaction rate. The Electrical properties with I-V and capacitance density were measured. By using nickel electrode, the capacitance density for the etched and Ni electroless plated films was 100 nFcm-2 while that for a film without any etch tunnel was 12.5 nFcm-2. Breakdown voltage and leakage current are improved, as the properties of metal deposition by electroless plating. The synthesized final nanostructures were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Using a nickel-chrome casting alloy called 'Rexillium V' which is also available as base metal alloy for dental ceramic crown, 4 types of mixtures(A, B, C, D) with old and new metal were prepared for cyclic casting. The results of cyclic casting can be outlined as follows: 1. For Vickers hardness after casting, specimen A and D tended to have lower hardness in the course of cyclic casting, while specimen B and C tended to higher hardness. 2. The results of X-ray diffraction analysis showed that major crystal phase contained nickelchrome compounds and carbide. 3. The observation results of SEM photographs after cyclic casting show that there was a significant tendency to have similar structures among experimental groups. 4. The results of EDX analysis after cyclic casting showed that there were little differences in chemical composition between parent metal and base metal alloy. Although industrial nickel-chrome cast alloy did not show any significant change in material properties even through cyclic casting over several times, it is recommended that more there be more in-depth studies on how to detect any potential corrosion, discoloration and toxication of dental ceramic crown implanted in patient's oral cavity.
