  • The conductive transparent film is prepared by spraying thin salt solution. In stannic chloride solution as a base solution, various dopants such as Al, Co, Cu and Ni were dissolved respectively as a chloride state and then the films were made by spraying solutions on hot glass plates. The properties of them were compared with those of the stannic salt single component film. The films doped with copper oxide and nickle oxide were improved by decreasing their sheet resistivity and temperature coefficient of resistivity. In comparison with the sheet resistivity and temperature coefficient of resistivity of stannic oxide single component film, being 2.5 K ohm/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and -1650ppm/$^{\circ}C$ respectively, its values of the film containing 15 mol % of copper oxide and formed at 40$0^{\circ}C$ were 2.5K ohm/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and -920ppm/$^{\circ}C$ respectively. The film containing 15 mol % of nickel oxide and formed at 50$0^{\circ}C$ has shown its sheet resistivity and temperature coefficient 0.7 K ohm/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and -940ppm/$^{\circ}C$ respectively.

  • Unite cell of soid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) that consists of a dense yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ) electrolyte a porous nickel-YSZ cermet anode and a porous strontium- doped lanthanum manganate(LSM) cathod was fabricated from using pore former through co-firing technique. Initial sintering shrinkage rates of each layer were identified for fabricating SOFC. Heterogenous sintering was very effective in tailoring shrinkage rate for three layers. The powder tailoring necessary for shrinkage rate matching are as follows ; electrolyte of 60% TZ8YS/ 40% TZ8Y mixture anode of 51wt% NiO/49 wt% (70wt% TZ8YS/30 wt% UT ZrO2) mixture and cathode of 80% LSM/20% UT ZrO2 mixture . The overall sintering shrinkage rate differences of three layers using these compositions were maintained in a few percent.

  • To develop high performance nickel-iron secondary battery, the characteristics of charge-discharge reaction of iron electrode were examined by cyclic voltammetry technique, SEM and XRD analysis. The capacity of the test electrodes was determined by the constant current charge-discharge method. It was found that the temperature and concentration of electrolyte were the major determinant factors of electrode capacity, and especially the 1st discharge capacity was increased with the increase of temperature. The effect of fore forming agent on the electrode capacity was negligible. The electrode capacity was above 350 ㎃h/g(36% utility) at 0.25C discharge rate. The stability of electrode was very good, but the activation occurred slowly.

  • Synthesis of carbon nanomaterials on a metal substrate by an ethylene fueled inverse diffusion flame was illustrated. Stainless steel plates were used for the catalytic metal substrate. The effects of catalyst metal particles were investigated through $Fe(NO_3){_3}$ (ferric nitrate, nonahydrate) and $Ni(NO_3){_2}$ (nickel nitrate, hexahydrate). Carbon nanotubes and nanofibers with diameters of $30{\sim}70nm$ were found on the substrate for the case of using SUS304 substrates only and using them with metal nitrates. In case of using metal nitrates, due to the easy activation of the metal particles, the formation and growth of carbon nanomaterials were occurred in the lower temperature region than that of using SUS304 substrates only.

  • The goal of the current research was to assess the influence of the growth rate of Nocardia amarae on its overall metal binding capacity. Batch sorption isotherms for cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and nickel (Ni) showed that Nocardia cells harvested from chemostat cultures at a dilution rate of $0.33d^-1$ had a significantly higher metal sorption capacity than cells grown at 0.5 and $1d^-1$. The cell surface area estimated using a dye technique indicated that pure N. amarae cells grown at a lower growth rate had a significantly more specific surface area than cells harvested from a higher growth rate operation. Accordingly, this difference in the specific surface area seemed to indicate that the higher metal sorption capacity of the slowly growing Nocardia cells was due to their higher specific surface area.

  • Enoyl-Acyl Carrier Protein Reductase (Fabl) of bacteria is hem as an important target for new antibacterial drugs and plays a determinant role in completing cycles of elongation in type-H fatty acid synthase system. In this study, a fabI gene from Staphylococcus aureus 6538p cloned in pET-l4b vector and FabI protein was over-produced in Escherichaia coli BL2l (DE3). $NH_2$-terminal His-tagged FabI protein was purified by nickel-nitrilotriacetic acid (Ni-NTA) metalaffinity chromatography Purified 6xHis-tagged FabI showed a catalytic activity on tram - 2 - octenoyl - N -acethlcysteamine by utilizing NADPH as a cofactor. For the discovery of new FabI inhibitors from chemical libraries, a target-oriented screening system using a 96-well plate was developed. About 10,000 chemical libraries from Korea Chemical Bank wore tested in this screening system, and 26 chemicals (0.25%) among them showed an inhibitory activity against FabI enzyme. This result showed that a new screening system can be used for the discovery of new FabI inhibitors.

  • Superoxide dismutases are metalloenzymes catalyzing the dimutation of superoxide anion radical to hydrogen peroxide and molecular oxygen. Examples of enzymes containing Cu, Mn and Fe as the redox-active metal have been characterized. Recently, an SOD containing one Ni atom per subunit was reported.(omitted)

  • The contact resistance between organic semiconductor and source-drain electrode in Bottom Contact Organic Thin-Film Transistors (BCOTFTs) can be effectively reduced by metal oxide/molybdenum double layer structure; metal oxide layers including nickel oxide (NiOx/Mo) and moly oxide(MoOx) under molybdenum work as a high performance carrier injection layer. Step profiles of source-drain electrode can be easily achieved by simultaneous etching of the double layers using the difference etching rate between metal oxides and metal layers.

  • EL (electro-luminescent) device as a light source has an advantage in embodying large area with great flexibility. On nickel foil as an electrode and backplane, we demonstrated a white EL flexible light source with blue phosphor layer combined with color change layer. A correlation between color change layer and color coordination was analyzed by Gaussian method, and then the color coordinate was controlled near to (0.33, 0.33) of pure white light.

  • We fabricated a Ni/C composite thick film on ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ substrate. A number of precipitations were observed on the film surface. Structural characterization was performed on the observed precipitations using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with help of the elemental mapping, electron diffraction (ED) and ED simulation. The structural characterization revealed that the precipitation is ${\theta}-Al_2O_3$ having the space group of C2/m (Monoclinic).
